I always loved this scene, though it was lowkey wasted when Alice wasn't the murderer and with a good motive. BUT I did enjoy the fact that it still revealed Alice as who she is and what she was lying to Mabel about - it made her further betrayal all the worse because Mabel brushed her lies aside and essentially gave her a way to try to make Mabel's tragedy into art that she could further sell. Even if Oliver wasn't fully on the nose about what game she was playing at, he knew she wasn't interested in Mabel for everything Mabel had to offer. He was looking out for Mabel, all while trying to catch the murderer. He also delivered it in a way that only he could - if Charles had given the same antics and dramatics, if he had given the same speech, it would have been harder for Mabel to figure him, but with Oliver, it's just part of him that you have to learn to accept. On another note, the scene is so wonderfully directed, between going back and forth from the outfits, to the way Oliver circles Alice and how the camera follows him, going faster and faster as the lies add up and the suspicions become more and more clear. This is probably my favorite scene of the whole series, even if S1 was the stronger of the two in my opinion (though S2 was excellent, just a change of pace!). Here's a fingers crossed moment for S3!
