great video! I got 2 backup hard drives, online backup and my essentials cant-live-without'em in CDs. For gigs I always carry a backup usb drive (you never know..)
This is a must do. I recently lost everything Over 20 years of music. I had backup in the house that was destroyed too. Off site is a really good idea. You never think it will happen to you but it can and our music is what makes us they are our tools but unlike most jobs some of the tools are not purchasable again.
That's a terrible thing to have happened to you. I hope other DJs see your comment and understand this isn't some 'theoretical' problem. It can happen at any time.
This is actually important information NO MATTER WHAT YOU'RE DOING. I know that you can have Windows set up in a way that it'll back your shit up daily. And that's what you should do. BACK YOUR SHIT UP. DAILY.
Great advice. I also use iTunes Match (I know before you slate me) and if you are using a mac setup your time machine it's easy to setup. I like most have had a hard drive failure and it sucks in a big way. Losing my back catalogue of Des O'conner tracks was a heart-breaker.
For offsite storage: Keep your hard drive in your car glovebox! If your house burns down, your car probably won't, your music is still very close which encourages you to make more regular backups than if you say, leave it in another state. Also means you have a hard drive of sick choons with you whenever your driving :)
Your car is just as likely to burn to the ground, after all it does have fuel in it. It's also easier for someone to break into your car or your gets stolen.
Mediafire.com/upgrade is running 1 TB online backup for a $2.99 per month special right now plus you can purchase it yearly with the discount I believe. Might be worth looking into!
been doin this since the last pc crashed, learned the hardway but now I got 3 different 1tb and 2tb externals incase something goes wrong... at any time anywhere....
DJcity I am a teen DJ and I've been having problems finding songs that in my music library like for instant I'll be searching for one song and I have at least 300 songs in that 1 playlist I'm wondering how can I get my playlist or my library more organize ?
i have aa 640GB internal drive. i partitioned it and made 500GB just for music. so it will act like an external but it really isn't. I do this because if something happens to my Operating System and i have to format, i wont lose my music. When backing up i just back up the 500GB music drive.
I'm not a D.J. but I have a lot of music! So far two of my exdrives have died on me and I didn't understand why until now. Thank you for this helpful video.
After my laptop nearly died, I put my music library in my Dropbox. worth the money for a pro account. Anytime I add music it automatically gets backed up online

What's the second drive with FireWire that you have? I'm looking for one but haven't quite found a decent one yet.
But what about DMR. Got a bunch of albums, can't access because of DMR...

Do most DJs use their internal hard drives as the main source for music or do most DJs keep the laptop empty and plug in an external for their music?
