A true legend. So many producers today have been influenced by this mans sound.
All the ones after him are his clones
And he stole Shawty Redd's style so....

shawty redd drumma boi, DRich is where he got the snare rolls from for sure Ppl dont know bruh they dont do they research!
In my Opinion i say Shawty Redd, bc he was a very melodic producer go back and listen to his old stuff everything you hear now is derived from his style. You can find his 808s in this super rare kit next.warbeats.com/download/files/Drum%20Kits/DDB%27s%20Shawty%20Redd%20Kit.rar

I’m one of those people who mentions lex Luger in every producer conversation. People like to act like he didn’t contribute a lot to today’s sound.
YOUNGTAYORCHICAGO facts nigga keep letting niggas know 💯
The whole 808 mafia crested today's sound. Bricksquad as a whole changed the game
Bro you sound dumb. 36 mafia started that style. You must be a goofy
Team_Flatline SMD you must be goofy because it said nothing about him starting it. Reading is fundamental bro.
@@mrroberts472 you dumb he never said he STARTED it
One of my favorite producers ever he really started the new wave doesn’t get enough credit for what he started
You mean what Shawty Redd started. Lex got his sound from him.
qtippz nah I see what you saying but nah lex had a new wave shawty redd definitely was coming close but lex started this new 808 shit and took to another level
What new 808 shit? Honestly everything Lex did when he first came out derived from Shawty Redd and D. Rich's sound. From drum patterns to, Brass, Snare rolls, Hi Hats etc...
He gets respect from people who actually know and love hip hop
2011 and his collab tapes with juicy j were hard
Those were the fucking best! Those and trap a holics with waka flocka in the same time period.
LeBron Flocka James was hard AF and those rubberband business juicy j mixtapes are most def fire

Hey Lex I used to struggle man, I was lost in my younger 20's I had a powerful experience with Jesus Christ and surrendered my life to Him, He totally changed my life. Son is deadass smart and is coherent with his words im so glad hes off the hard shit he boutta become unstoppable. He deadass was one of the founding fathers of trap 🙏🙏🙏🙏
he aint a founding father but it wouldnt be anywhere near as popular without his update to the sound
I'm so proud of Lex. It's great to see him clean & sober.
This man’s story is helping more people than he could ever understand or realize & that’s some powerful shit. Keep moving forward Lex & to everyone that’s in this situation there’s hope it’s mind over matter. It won’t be easy at first but you can do it & that’s a fact! Stay positive & be around those that have that positive vibe too & can add to what you are moving towards. It might take several tries but don’t give up hope cause we all relapse but want to eventually reach our goal of being sober, a better person & have enjoyable times in the near future. Stay blessed up & I wish y’all the best of luck in the journey out of the shit that makes life so much harder.
Thank the Lord we didn’t lose this walking legend
One of the only beatmakers that I would consider a real "producer". He's not the average random button pressing fl studio guy of the moment, he actually understands melody which is something you either have or don't.
Sean FL that last part isn't true u can start out not understanding something then ending up understanding it after lots of practice
I don’t think he was a beatmaker more like a producer considering he was really out there known and made beats for platinum artists. A beatmaker just makes beats for a hobby. I use too call myself a producer years back when I started but after years I start realizing the word Beatmaker. I even changed my name to beatmaker from producer. Since I don’t sell beats

Respect that.. a lot of rappers or producers wouldn’t talk about this and be honest
Definitely one of the most influential producers in the 21st century.

Preciate the interview Smalls but I feel like 90% of this interview was bout drugs , literally asking the same question a different way , missed opportunity to ask bout what he is doing now , future projects, how can producers expand themselves, what he thinks about producers adopting his style etc...just a thought
Trying to make people wake up before they fall asleep forever...🤔🤔🤔
I was 5 minutes in and wondering when the drug topic would stop till I scrolled down to your comment thanks for saving me time.
This video is only 22 mins of his full interview probably, but honestly ppl need to see this video specifically because Ppl are literally dying from these drug addictions
I agree 100%
I see the purpose of this interview went right over your head.
"LEGEND" south side is this man's pupil, I'm so glad he had his moment of clarity, God bless you lex.
Huge respect to this man for sharing his struggle and for giving hope to people trying to overcome their demons.
Massive respect to this man for being so candid and getting his shit together. I think what he is trying to say with addiction is that he wasn't physically addicted, but psychologically dependent on the drugs to control his mood. It's something that cannabis supporters rarely seem to acknowledge, the fact that something doesn't have to be physically addictive for somebody to be come dependent on it and unable to function normally without it.

Good man, keep it rolling, hope he’s doing well today I follow him on Facebook and see him doing his thing with his kids. You live and you learn if you don’t you’re not human. Everyone has there trials and tribulations to take on it’s those who overcome them that prevail!

Lex is a man of values. He cherishes his kids above all.
Stay strong brother
Bro I was zoned tf in during this interview, this shit went by too fast. You gotta get lex back up there man!!
I doubt Lex Luger reads these comments, but I wanted to express my support for him being open about the hardships he has faced. I deeply respect how he overcame addiction and did not hide it from anybody. We need more people in the hip-hop industry addressing addiction. Lex Luger not only saved his own life, but I can only imagine the number of people that he has inspired to seek help for addiction. Originally from Houston, I know too well about the ramifications from lean addiction as our city has lost so many talented rappers and DJs to it. For those that are not aware of it: the codeine in lean is actually a tougher opiate to quit than H due to how it binds to the receptors in your brain. Anyways, I still love those V.A.B.P. mixtapes! It would be great to see Lex work with an emcee out of the Hampton/Virginia Beach area. I remember when the Neptunes were based in Virginia Beach and constantly cranking out hits with Clipse in Richmond. It's great to work with people from all over to get unique perspectives, but there's something special about a producer and an artist in the same region working together on a regular basis as well as multiple artists working together. There's no doubt that Lex Luger has some new radio and street anthems on the way.
Really proud of you fam....shouts out to your family they really cared for you to do that good thing you realized this.

woooow...what a video...best video on youtube right now!!...so much motivation...you make it cool to be sober bro...its alotta producers like myself that up to you! thanks so much for doing video lex!
Being a former addict myself, I realize there’s no safe or better way of ingesting drugs.
But I know many people including myself, that played with their nose, snorting opiates for years and years, and never went to the hospital or had done that much damage to themselves. So, he shouldn’t act like ingesting all of the concoctions he has, makes it safer, or is some how better. There’s no “Better”or “Safer” way to ingest drugs, especially mixing up cocktails that will destroy your insides.
Good seeing bro sober, he looks 100% better and sounds very clear minded. Lex a legend respect his honesty

Alcohol. 60 plus a couple days sober. Drinking heavy since 12. Aunt and brothers supplied me since that age. 39 yrs old in a month.
aldraias1 stay strong bro good job
I remember back when I was still selling my beats, I was off alcohol, gasoline, aerosols, and pills. Then I started rapping and my shit was wack. It was like insane stupid stuff but it was demonic too. It took till I completely stopped breathing for me to stop. When I woke up in that hospital bed I still didn't want to stop, but I was in an environment where I couldn't access them and now I can't even find them anywhere but I'm still high right now off the aerosols after quitting for a while but my last trip was... if I could seen my keys or anything in front of me period, I would tried to drive to the hospital.
I say this for the 17 year old kid dealing with a bunch of shit and not knowing what else to turn to. Don't go this avenue. It cost me my moment of fame. I haven't sold a beat since I started that shit. Even today I'm not selling shit. I can't even give it away cuz I ruined my reputation and more importantly, my mental capacity. Chronic headaches, heart issues, and a sharp pain in my right lung. Don't do it.
Good to this young brother sober and doing well. He looks very healthy! Wish him continued success.
