I've come to respect the content of your vids, whether or not I agree . Here's some throttle control insight from a former Ferrari test driver who now drives a 21 Tacoma Limited ( a trim level that affords an ample combination of luxury and allows plenty of modifications). The throttle controller allows a MT driver to control of the speed of butterfly valve opening while accelerating in each 'gear' (gear is a misnomer; because the word 'gear' in Italy is 'marcia" pronounced MAR-CHAH and literally mean 'march forward.' As Rob states, the higher the throttle controller setting, the faster the butterfly valve will open. Manuals also afford more control during negative acceleration (slowing down) by utilizing engine compression (in AT's this is best achieved by using the ECT button and Sport mode. Throttle controllers installed in Tacomas with AT's can derive NEARLY the same results by -taking the acceleration sequence through the gears using the Sport mode; the throttle controller is now receptive to your desired acceleration rate depending on the sport mode gear and your pedal pressure, just like an MT. BTW, my throttle controller of choice is the original brand of throttle controller-The Sprint Booster. All others, including The Pedal Commander, have applied the same technology with enhanced optics. I prefer the subtlety of the SB's control device small size. Besides, adjusting a Pedal Commander using Bluetooth technology on a phone while the car is in motion could be regarded as inattentive driving. Whichever of those two brands you install, you're in for an unexpected adrenaline rush.
I just got a Pedal Commander for my C6 Corvette with a M6 transmission. I definitely can tell the difference with the reaction and feel of the car now. I so far, like it in City Mode best. Thanks for your review!
Rob! The Pedal Commander is awesome! Been on three short "test" drives since installing it yesterday afternoon. Was laughing and smiling the entire time. There's a couple of spots on my 1/4 mile unmaintained road/drive where the lag was irritating, the Taco would actually stop before the throttle kicked in. Just on City 2 it seems like I have a whole new truck. Thanks for the great advice on this product.
The only down side is the cost. But you immediately forget about that once you take your first drive. And I get about the same mpg. City +2 is the perfect spot for me.
What's the down size of having the pedal commander? Have you driven a manual trans Tacoma with the pedal commander? I don't notice a lag in the MT in my 23 Tacoma. I do notice it takes much more movement of the throttle pedal to achieve the same speed in the 23 as it does in my 06. The longer "throw" of the throttle pedal on the 23 is not a deal breaker, BUT If possible I'd like it to match the "throw" of the 06. I'm not looking for 1/4 mile times or quicker acceleration or more performance, just less movement of the pedal to achieve the same speed. I had a Aprilia motorcycle with a ride by wire throttle. It had 3 maps, rain, normal, sport. Rain took a lot of movement of the throttle to attain 45 mph, sport mode took less that half the movement. Would that description describe what the pedal commander does?
It’s all about installation. Don’t believe the hype aimed at discrediting Pedal Commander. I’ve had it for years in different vehicles with no problems 👍
I have a G37 and bought mine in late 2021. Just started making my car go into limp mode and cel for the pedal position sensor. Took out and the problems are gone. Also makes my trasmission shifts not so smooth because the engine and trasmission aren't in sync the higher you go with the modes. Turned it off and still limp mode. Just eneded up taking it out. It started hittng 90 degrees around here so maybe that caused it to go bad.
i put my 2013 Dodge Challenger v6 SXT (automatic) in eco mode within my cars mode and then pedal commander in eco mode lvl 4 as well and i can get between 38 to 40mpg when driving it easy on hwy. who would have thought 😂 thats like hybrid mileage in a muscle cars little brother 😂 perfect for my 1.5 hr commutes to work and back twice a week
How does the Pedal Commander compare (or contrast) to a tuning, specifically the Overland Torque Tune (OTT) for the Tocoma (Specifically, I have a 2013 4-dr PreRunner with V-6 & automatic trans)? Do they complement each other?... do they replicate each other?... do they "fight" each other? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Rob, I've been running the PC for about a year now. Profound difference on my 2019 TRD sport! I haven't had any issues with the unit. The eco setting is really nice if you have dogs in the back . Real soft and smooth keeps them from getting thrown around! After our ride, dogs come out, city mode goes on. For fun, sometimes Sport goes on and ..Wow!
Rob I need your help I'm on the fence with tune or pedal commander. I have 2 questions I need help with. 1. Do I really need a tune being I have a manual 3rd gen taco? A peddle commander might just do the job. 2. Tune is the way to go for a manual taco. If anyone has insight please help. I know you had a manual taco before so I want your personal opinion.
Hello it’s been 8 months ago from your post. Just wanted to ask if you did anything also from that time if you tuned your manual or pedal commander? If so let me know also how it is and how it went! Would like to have some play with my Taco also currently running my 2016 MT 4x4 TRD Sport. Thanks if I can get a reply how you set yours up!
The down side to pedal commander is that if it fails than it puts your car in limp mode and leaves you stranded until you clear your fault codes that was caused by pedal commander
This happens when you change modes while driving, which is not recommended. Pedal commander keeps insisting change modes only when you stop not while driving.
Do you know if crawl control will work with pedal-commander since you don’t use the gas in crawl control the ecu does gas and brakes? If you know I would appreciate it?
Rob, have you heard about the overland engine tune? Wonder if there is a considerable difference to the throttle commander and if both can work together. Apparently overland engine tune changes transmission and engine programming to fit your preferred drive performance. Any advice?
Hey Rob, Since I found your channel I have gotten both the S&B CAI and the Pedal Commander !! I absolutely love and enjoy both !!. I have a question for you, do you know what the little vent or speaker slots are to the right of the steering column left of the start/start button ? I have no clue !!
That’s where I wanted to mount my pedal commander to the dash, but wasn’t sure if that can be covered up ! I have a 2019 TRD Off-road , I can’t even find a schematic on the dash that shows it !
The slots you are referring to is if you have the Premium & Technology packages with your Tacoma then that is the location for the sensor for the Dual climate control for you A/C. If you don’t then its just a blank space.
Words cannot express how much I hate fly by wire throttle. I like cars like my old Corvette. No luxury features, no power gadgets, no bluetooth functionality, just a big 750 double pumper with a throttle cable and deep gears.
@@RobMotive brake pedal switch broke, said it was due to PC installed. 27k miles 2021, under warranty. Also told me they would cover it if it wasnt installed. But it caused the break. The service manager will not respond to Toyota over two weeks, of my compliant.
I have to disagree. It's tocking bomb and your life is on the line. It just screwed up my taco's sensor and brake system last night, while on the road. I had it on eco mode and have never change its mode while moving. Im glad it has not happened to you yet but take this as a warning.

So you don’t have any personal proof to back up what you claim? Not trying to give you a hard time, but what you said is pretty serious. How do you know something else didn’t cause your issue?

Pedal Commander eliminates throttle lag, is self-installed, can be adjusted by the owner and costs less. Tunes are for the track.

Pedal Commander for me due to the better controller and Bluetooth connectivity 👍
