"I dream about my mom. I dream, somebody tells me where she's living. Its like... Some old slum building across town. And I run there. And I run up the stairs. But she's gone... Shes always... Gone..." "That's not a secret, Potter." This scene always makes me cry. Just the way his voice shakes, and the way he pauses, and how when he says "and i run there, and I run up the stairs" he sounds so hopeful for just a moment, and then how sympathetic Boris sounds
Okay but I've never thought of the connection between Pippa and Boris and how Pippa said that she wouldn't be able to help Theo if he "falls" and then the next clip shows Boris literally trying to lift Theo and help him through one of his darkest times IM SHOCKED
Boris can do what no woman seems capable of.....nurturing Theo 💔. Theo's feeling for Pippa never really goes beyond worship, & when she says 'everything stopped that day' she's talking about the one thing they have in common -- being in the same place at the same time (the explosion in the museum), but not together; her injuries, mental as well as physical will affect her all her life; she senses Theo's frailty -- has she guessed that he's a drug addict? No spoilers regarding the ending of the novel, but I do feel that the beauty of Boris's speech near the end of the movie -- just a hint of 'it might just be....💔' resolved the story of a true love in a very satisfactory way! 💔
I AM SOBBING omg so many incredible things... the comparisons between Kitsey and Boris, holy shit!! "You don't know what it's like to be in love with the wrong person" cutting to Boris kissing him!!! This is by far my fave goldfinch edit, like ever, dude... I'm so overwhelmed I can't even make a coherent comment lsdhfkhsdaLHSHDKJ this is INCREDIBLE !!!
this edit made me CRAZY my g-d the cut between boris and theo and kitsey and theo on the bed and when the song picked up and all of the voiceovers i lost my mIND this is so good
I love the parallel of the voiceover of "I don't think we can lean on each other" to Boris literally carrying Theo along the river bank near his hotel. is like Boris and Theo can lean on each other. they are literally goals. I really hope after the last scene Boris and theo get together.
I lost my brother to suicide back in August, when I watched this movie, I cried so hard. I didn't lose my Mom, but I cried due to Theo suffering with depression and the words he says, "I dream about my Mom." I have many many dreams about my Brother. He's always alive and happy, and sometimes I blame myself for not seeing that he was in trouble. :(
Don't ever blame yourself. He probably thought that was the best thing to do even though it wasn't. Even if he's not physically with you right here, right now. He will always be with you. Here, in your heart. Take a deep breath put your hands on your heart and feel his energy feel his love, feel his presence. He loves you so much. I wish I could do something that'll make you feel better. I truly wish you the best.
don't blame yourself, I'm sure your brother was good at hiding his pain. I can't even begin to comprehend the grief you must be feeling, but I want to say I am truly so sorry and wish you a most serene future 💔
Jesus this edit hits hard, I really don’t get why this movie got such a bad rep. Finn Wolfhard, Ansel Esgort, Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson, e.t.c...
multifandom edits i guess it was probably because it was a movie that people need to read the book to understand, like i’m reading it rn but it confused a lot of people who haven’t read it
I saw it without reading the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Seeing the film actually made me want to read the book, so I did. I think it is just one of those movies that requires you to think and people don’t like to have to think about things anymore. If this was made in the 90s/early 2000s when dramas were more popular it would have done better. I think it is fabulous! The book and the movie. Aside from things being “platonic” but that’s another story. 🙄😂
It was great at parts but very confusing as a whole. Imo the problem is that they couldnt fit everything of the book into one movie...especially the childhood storyline with Boris it played larger part in the book and without it, it wasnt as impactful. Anyways I watched movie first but book is much better depicts Theos struggles and his ways of thinking
i’ve wanted to see this movie so bad for so long and I teared up watching this, so i can’t imagine myself sobbing to the movie. I really want to see it 😞
@Manisha Bains The book!!!! It's almost like a bible for me -- I have it on Audible; sometimes readings don't sound great, but this is by David Pittu -- it's clear that he's totally immersed himself in this wonderful novel...... I take comfort in the writing, especially the long episode from where Theo & Boris meet again.....the sparkling dialogue (like Dickens, Donna Tartt invariably accompanies a line of speech with an action -- so we have a clearer image.....) And I was profoundly affected by the quarrel in the bar --- where they each confront the other's loneliness -- 'solitude to solitude, like two Tibetan monks on a mountaintop' -- nothing more to say, you can almost feel the coldness of the wind blowing between them 💔 Totally in love? Yes, indeed I am! 💔 🙏🏼🌹🙏🏽 -- be well y'all!
The first film where I have no words to describe it. How can you describe something so amazing but it’s so much more than that!! Number one. Watch this, or you’ll regret it.
Excellent work! The film is already complex and full of emotion, and you managed to compile it all together in a moving footage. You’re an outstanding talent!
i havent decided whether im gonna watch the film yet or not but im convinced this is better than it could ever be this is so well put together oh my god
i cannot tell u how many times i have watched this ...... pls it’s the only thing giving me endorphins!!!!! & srsly this is So Intoxicatingly Good!!!!! ur talent makes me
I did not see ANY of the characters like this... Movie people looked like they were just vessels for the inner thoughts of the characters. I saw the characters as (from the outside) seemingly almost regular people... living their somewhat irregular lives but from time to time plagued by their past experiences.... like noxious bubbles rising to the surface from the fetid rotting depths of a pond.
I saw the movie 7 times in the theater. Let me tell you, it gets better and better everytime you watch it. EVER DAMN TIME. I can only compare it to a fine jewel that grows bigger and better and goes up in value with every viewing, if that makes sense. GIVE IT A TRY 😁😁😁😁😁
@erin: consider it the best book written since and maybe trumping 2666 and to cal it a sequel is as impossible as making it a movie :) If you have not read it, read it.
