- A song for "SOLO" week on the Seasons of the Ukulele
Lyrics & CHORDS:
INTRO (G) (D) (Em) (NC)
I thought we were for(D)ever
But I was out on a (G) loan
You traded me for an(Bm)other
(D) With a passion full (Em) blown
When you said you were (C) leaving
You hurt me to the (G) bone
Now all that I can (D) say is
I want to be a(Em)lone (NC)
I want to be a(C)lone
I want to be a(G)lone
The hell with social (D) media
Going to switch off my (G) phone
Let me wallow in my (C) sorrow
My fate to be(G)moan
Just leave me (D) be
I want to be a(Em)lone
When we were to(D)gether
I was in that joyful (G) zone
In the sunniest of (Bm) weather
(D) You were my guide my lode(Em)stone
But how swiftly you (C) viewed me
Like I was some mill(G)stone
Hanging round your (D) neck
Your displeasure was soon (Em) shown
BRIDGE
(Gdim)* Just like Greta (G) Garbo
(Gdim) In that "Grand Ho(G)tel"
(Gdim) I don't want to be with (G) people
(D) That's my idea of (Em) Hell
(Gdim) Who needs your (G) sympathy?
(Gdim) You can leave it at the (G) door
(Gdim) I want to be al(G)one
(D) I don't need anyone no (Em) more! (NC)
CHORUS
*(Gdim) = 0101
Yes, just leave me be. Humans need some time to breathe, to switch off, to process negative feelings etc. But it's nice to have a partner to talk to too!
Yes, it can just depend on circumstances and the personality of the person suffering the loss.
Bernie you stand alone in the sheer number and quality of these originals. Loved the bridge in particular.
Cheers, Andrew, but I have stiff competition from quite a few Seasonistas, Edwin, Pabrizzer, John de Oz, Jon de Taz, la Bird's Eye, etc. Long live the Seasons!
I like this whole production, great singing!
Thanks a lot.
I love hearing an original. O am always so impressed by them. So glad you wrote it and shared it with us!
Thanks Melissa. You should try writing your own. It gets easier the more you do it! Start with a simple blues structure.
"Well I woke up this morning
There was sick all down my bed (repeat)
I had an aching headache and I thought I might be dead.
That sort of nonsense can lead to greater things. 😜
Yep, you can write a song about anything ! Real catchy tune, I love picking paired with strumming. Thanks for finding the time to join in Berni, appreciated.
I thank you sir. You have to be able to think fast and on your feet when you are writing a song for kids at a festival who have just made puppets that are:
a jam butty miner
a ginger cat and three Cinderellas... and you have to make up a song that brings them together in a story 😁😁
I’ll hang fire on the invite to the “singles ready to mingle” party I’m organising then Berni? Cool lyrics as always Berni, I particularly appreciated the bridge section. Excellent original 👍
Cheers. You can invite me, but I doubt my grieving narrator would even obey the RSVP 😂
totally delightful tune ....great melody and very clever lyrics .... i like the chordal singularity of the chorus
Thanks Michael. I think that's the first time I have ever used a diminished chord 😂
@@berniarmstrong they are so fun....and open endless possibilities!
Great song, and mentioning Greta Garbo makes any song even better!
It does indeed. Glad you liked it, Ylle.
I don't know how you do it but it's amazing that you do. Getting strong Beatles vibes off this one which can only be a good thing!
Now THAT is praise indeed! Thanks!
Okay, as you wish...
Kidding. You've got another hit on your hands
Thanks 😂
Laissez moi! From lode to mill stone - sounds familiar. 🙄
You should check out Threebird Trail’s video in season 644… you may be the only Seasonista who can understand the lyrics.
Fab stuff, Berni! (I wonder how Greta would have coped with "social media?")
She'd have been hounded by paparazzi these days and her agent would have hired people to reply (as her) on her social media pages.
