    Considering the value you've given the manufacturer with publicity and testing, they would be nuts to not send you a new production unit. Any reputable manufacturer would also want the failed one back (at their expense) to find out what went wrong.

    Thanks Dala - testing this adaptor is an excellent service to the Leaf/eNV200 community. The device is very expensive but also cheaper than the alternative of adding CCS to Leaf. I recommend and would value tests of alternative adaptors. The days of Chademo public charging are numbered in Europe.

      I agree, with these units on the market, the retrofitters that retrofit a CCS charger to the car (Muxan for example), asking about 3 times the price of this unit, will probably struggle to sell any more conversions now.

      What is the largest battery size for the eNV200? Can a 62kw.hr leaf battery be used in a eNV200?
      I hoping this van can become a cheap and cost effective delivery van with a battery upgrade.

    Thank you for an update. Great to see the manufacturer is actively developing the software to fix bugs and add compatibility to a wide range of chargers. Looking forward to see more competition in market and hopefully price of adapters will go down. I wonder if there is a warranty when buying an adapter from Alibaba. Would be a bummer if broke down like your adapter did.

  • @TheKingpleb

    I’m hoping that part of the code is monitoring the temperature inside the adapter as there are days when it gets to 30’c> in some countries and this would be a concern if it can’t get rid of the heat quickly enough. But in colder climates it would be ace if it would allow max thoughtput as 100kw would mean a 62kwh pack would be charged from 20-80% in under 30mins.

    Hi Dala, I have been watching your vids with interest for years and I have a simple question.
    I have an early LEAF (2012) with the original battery and I'm down to 7 bars.
    My location in Australia is Rockhampton on the Tropic of Capricorn (= hot & humid)
    I noticed you have a number of Australian customers on your spread sheet.
    My question is, who would you recommend in Australia to do a battery upgrade?
    I have waiting patiently for EVs Enhanced of NZ to market their 40kWh thermally managed LiFeP battery but no sign yet. Do you have any recommendations?
    I love what you have done for LEAF owners world wide.

      Hope you find someone. If you do I would love to hear who it is. I am in the same boat, in Australia with a 7 bar 2012 Leaf. Would love to upgrade the battery but have had no luck finding a good used battery. Might be easier to import a replacement battery from Japan. If I can't find someone to do the battery swap I may have a go at doing it myself. It seems fairly straight forward with the adaptor from EVs Enhanced.

    They have to be EXTREMELY careful! they can't send the car more power then the car was rated. it's not just a adapter rating but also a car rating. there at one time was a couple chademo chargers over 50 kw but not many. if the adapter gets a message from the car about it's maximum KW then let it set to that, if not default to 50kw.
    I know my 2013 Toyota RAV4 EV with the aftermarket JDEMO Chademo port should top out at 50 kw but on the faster chademo chargers it trys to go faster and isn't good since the car can't keep the battery cooled well when to high. I've had good luck at 50 - 60 KW though.
    I can't wait to get a CCS1 to Chademo adapter to test in USA with my Toyota RAV4 EV.
    I asked for a demo unit but they don't want to help, sad!

    • @The18107j
      @The18107j 9 місяців тому +3

      The thumb drive shouldn't have needed to be formatted. It's possible that the adapter needs a specific format (e.g. fat32, exfat, ntfs) and formatting as anything else could mean that the adapter can't read the thumb drive anymore.
      Other things to look for:
      Make sure there is only 1 file on the drive.
      The file must be named My407ccs2chademo.bin
      The 3 way USB cable must be used to flash the adapter. The thumb drive must be connected before power.

      Old 24kWh with low state of health will have high internal resistance. It makes sense from an engineering standpoint to restrict regen on these packs, since regen braking wont put much energy back into the battery, it will just generate heat.
      Best way to get regen back is to put in a newer battery pack with higher state of health!

    since chademo is being phased out, and i'm seeing it happen where i live in the US, and on many youtubers from the east like Bjørn Nyland from Norway, someone should just make a complete DIY upgrade kit for the leaf to completely just use the combo L1-L2 / CCS plug. or teslas NACS. Muxan has one for ccs but its way out of my budget, i'm thinking i might have to cut my loss and go back to ICE cars. unless the cars manufacturer has a free recall for this plug issue. a 62+kwh battery upgrade would help a lot but that too is way out of my budget. this issue with EVs is going to result in a new "who killed the electric car" all over again.

    • @18avshalom
      @18avshalom 9 місяців тому +4

      I disagree. I had the same thoughts as you, but the real solution is adapters like this one are a better solution as long as the price goes down. One of these adapters could be used for more than one vehicle which would be better than having it tied to one car. Imagine your LEAF gets destroyed in an accident, you could sell your adapter or get another car that could use it.

    • @ashton9699
      @ashton9699 9 місяців тому +1

      This is all just increasingly worse levels of nonsense.
      You already know the Muxsan conversion is really expensive and out of your budget, what makes you think someone else doing it will be significantly cheaper?
      How is it the manufacturer's problem to RECALL cars? Should Apple recall all iPhone 14 because of people who remorsed over not waiting for the 15 for USB-C?
      Paint all EVs with one brush just because of an "issue" that affects one model based on a very dated platform?
      If it doesn't suit your needs and you have to go back to ICE that is fair enough, but don't go looking for excuses to blame others as if somehow your problem is their fault and responsibility.

    Dala EV Repair--Thank you so much!! In early October I purchased a 2013 LEAF SL, upgraded with a 2022 62kWh battery. I am hoping to get a lot of miles with this car. My wife travels 90 miles commuting per day, using 3.75 miles/kwh and paying from home $.11/kWh. I live in south-central WA, USA and might want an adapter like this for our trips to visit my family (my Kujala brothers!) So, in the next year or so, how much "should you pay" for such an adapter, if you were me? Is there a manufacturer from South Korea or Japan you are particularly looking forward to testing their product?

    There is a lot of work to be done. It is not stable now. It is not working on many chargers.
    You should avoid presenting it so positive. It could lead to many disappointed buyers. I would never do a round-trip at this stage of de development.

      When I got mine a week ago, it didn't work on any of the chargers. Today, it works on 5 out of 8 charger types, and the manufacturer is still sending updates.
      Keep an eye on the spreadsheet. You might be surprised at how fast new chargers get supported.

      @The18107j I am doing many tests and log-files since the last months. I know all the issues and how fast the manufacturer is reacting and doing new firmware. But we are not typical customers that only want to use it.

      @wojciechtreter7808 yes that's true. But without us testers it would never be possible for the manufacturer to test all chargers. Don't forget, this is reverse engineering without any support of chademo and ccs consortium

      @wojciechtreter7808 9 місяців тому +2

      Yep, that's why the adapter should be much cheaper at this moment, since you not getting a finished product but actually take part in development, bringing value to the manufacturer.

    Another point is, making this Adapter public on UA-cam is maybe good for clicks but it will lead to the fact that the Manufacturer of the chargers will block it. If it will be the case, thank you.

    • @EngineersFear
      @EngineersFear 9 місяців тому +2

      I don't think that is technically possible and I also don't see why they would like to sell less electricity. The adapter causes no harm to the charger

      @EngineersFear it is so easy to block the Adapter, beleve me. We all ha e the same MAC. And no manufacturer allows Adapter. And by the way, every Adapter in causing errors due to the current Adapter. These errors are reported to the backend. I know ow it . And all these errors can initiate a service that costs money . @@EngineersFear that’s true, MAC can be changed easily. But the Chinese reality is one for all 😂 The cars create less problems than expected. The adapter generates currently many reports to the providers. Funny fact, when you stop the charging session at Alpitronic (sw 2.6.3) it quits it with a short red light around the CCS port. Can also seen at the logs of the station.

      I have a 2011 Leaf with CHAdeMO (it doesn't work with the adapter, but that's a different issue). I think there were a few Leafs over the years sold cheaper without the DC charging port. It might be possible to pay someone to add one, but it would likely be more expensive than selling your Leaf and buying a different one with a DC port.
