Wife and I are considering retiring in Spain. We like the chill lifestyle and the wonderful food. We have only vacationed in Barcelona, Madrid and Sevilla so far. I would like to check out other parts of the country including Valencia and Malaga. Where we live in the USA is outrageously expensive, stressful and full of traffic. @@livinlavidacosta I think Americans make a lot higher salaries for the same job titles in Europe, but I believe Europeans are much happier. The stress in America is astronomical. I am so glad we have the option to move somewhere less stressful. We worked hard and always lived below our means. I think Americans are blinded by salary and do not account for cost of health care, college, child care, property tax, etc. We pay 11k in property tax every year for a small old house in Virginia. Also, very little work/life balance.
People in there seventys behaving like teenagers, I definitely believe that, I'm in that age bracket , I decided to attend active retirement, what a pack of complainers, like spoiled brats , all wanted to be the boss, I asked them if anyone was interested in music, or art, as I play the violin , or try to play I started a few years ago. Some laughed at me, so thought it was a crazy idea.disaster for me, I never went back.I travel to music festivals now and I meet great younger people who share the music and help me play. I'm now thinking of buying a property in Spain, but I will be very cautious of the grey army.

Lots of common sense advice there, and all five of your reasons are true. We have owned in San Luis Torrevieja since 1997 but still use it as a lock up and leave second home from U.K. Definately feel fitter with the Spanish climate and like yourselves easily surpass th 10k steps every day as well as regular swimming and cycling. The supermarket food has become more expensive but eating out is still chep compared to U.K. Keep it up you will definately extend your lifespan.

Thinking of Spain for retirement but certainly planning to visit at different times of the year first. I also think I wouldn’t want to live too close to the sea or at least high enough in case of tsunami as silly as it may sound. I love that there are mountains (and Pyrenees) for hiking and yet close to the sea and cities are walkable. Weather great. Socializing - yes lack of is my biggest concern just as it is in a new city and state where I am now. I joined hiking group, classes… gym, etc. Attend events. May be similar anywhere we decide to retire. A lot to decide and budget if planning to ever return to the states.
Great video. Really honest, straight forward thoughts on 'what's good about living in Spain' . I'm looking forwards to following your progress and finally settling in to a good life in Spain. I lived in Andalucia,Sevilla: tough as hell trying to understand the Andaluz Spanish. I made good friends there, both Spanish and Expat. Then went and lived in Madrid for 5 years, which is great. I suddenly found that I could understand what people were actually saying in Spanish. The Andalucians chew off the end of each word - every word in the sentence. Madrilenos speak fast and clearly. I miss it all, and am seriously thinking about spending my later years of life back in Spain. I wish you both all the best, may life in Spain for you be full of adventure and discovery.

We bought a place in Villamartin about 8 years ago, we love the weather in Spain but at the moment I don't see myself retiring there. I know those beaches well and they are natural and beautiful. Lately, Spain has got very expensive, especially for food, The food is without doubt better than most places in Europe. The cost of cars are eyewateringly expensive. Fuel is cheaper than most big EU countries but unless you have large savings and a good pension income you would really want to choose your retirement area wisely.

My husband and l retired early in Spain in 2022 and we are so happy here! We live in Madrid and with the excellent transportation we don't need to drive. We have a condo in playa Poniente in Benidorm that we go to a few times a year. The food, weather, affordable healthcare, etc etc etc makes it so worth it. I wish you guys the best with your plans to move to Spain. For me it's the best country to live!
One thing about Spain is that it has the diversity of a continent squeezed into the size of a State in the US. You will see it when you travel to Madrid, or to the north of Spain (Basque C., Asturias, Galicia, León..) and you compare the weather, people and landscapes to Alicante or to the South (Andalucía) and the East (Valencia, Barcelona) On a same day you can be on a sunny beach or in a snowy blizzard, with all the different people, food and culture that it means. Totally agree with you. We moved here one year a go. We got a golden visa and love Andalusia. We bought an apartment in torremolinos. We are also lived 27 years in Canada and 28 years in the USA. My wife is from the uk and I’m from Switzerland originally.

Wij hebben 1jaar geleden een huis gekocht in Murcia , Camposol dat is zan de Costa Calida . Op 2 weken na alle dagen mooi weer gehad en in de winter was het 28 gr gemiddeld . Hier heerst een micro climaat wat wonderen doet voor je gezondheid . Heerlijk rustig hier en alles blijft open . Restaurants met 2x per week entertainment. Wij genieten dagelijks van ons mooie , betaalbare , huis met grote tuin en zwembad . Dit is puur genieten ..

We’re not too worried about squatters since we live in a gated urbanization, which gives us extra security. 🙌Plus, our keyholder checks on the property when friends and family aren’t staying, so that gives us peace of mind! 😃

To get a permanent visa to live in Spain, you can apply for the Non-Lucrative Visa, which requires proof of financial means (around €2,400/month or roughly $2,600) , private health insurance, and various documents like a clean criminal record. After 5 years of living in Spain with this visa, you may qualify for permanent residency! 🇪🇸
@@livinlavidacosta It was a custom also done in the past in the US, as can be seen in Gone with the Wind, and they where not of Spanish descent. It is a custom imposed by climatic conditions. Colder areas of Spain have no siesta tradition.

This gives a "looking through rose tinted glasses view of life in Spain". It is lovely but when you have a house to maintain, garden to look after, cooking a meal every day, cleaning the house inside and out, laundry shopping, maintenance of the home, doing exercise to keep ourselves active and healthy then trust me life here is nit all beach days, sitting in bars, restaurants and fiestas, fiestas and more fiestas. We have been in Spain for 3 weeks and not been out for a meal, nit been to a bar nor a fiesta - why we have had too much to do at home.
Thanks for sharing your experience! You're absolutely right-living in Spain isn’t just about hanging at the beach all day. There's real-life stuff like home upkeep and daily chores. We know that 100%, just rather be doing all that in Spain than Canada! 😉
You would do the same responsibilities and daily routine in any other country, the difference is once it's done there are lots of options to have fun :)
Love your video! I'm British, but I married a beautiful Spanish lady in 1997 and moved to Murcia, Spain. We have a second home at the beach near where you are, in Mil Palmeras. It takes us around 45 minutes to drive there from Murcia and we go most weekends and holidays. I love swimming in the sea. In the winter I use a wetsuit. My wife does SUP. We also go for long walks, and have passed these beaches many times. If you ever want to meet up, maybe we can help you out with some things, let me know. God bless +++

Will be retiring to Spain in 2025 and plan to spend at least 1 year moving around to different areas, mostly in Andalusia and the Murcia area of Costa Blanco, though we will check out your area for sure. We currently live and work in Asia (my wife is Filipina and I teach the US military in Japan) and only plan to go back to the US for family visits (I'm from NY and my family is now mostly in Florida.) I much prefer Europe and hope to get Spanish residency after my wife gets Spanish citizenship so we no longer have to deal with Filipino passports and visas. I spent time in Spain in the 90's and fell in love with the simple and slow lifestyle, and living on an island for 14 years has taught me that slow is best. You guys are doing it right. Enjoy!
I live in this part of Spain and yes life is good, however, i envy Canadian winters and the snow, frost and clear skies, in the uk winters are so miserable which is one of the reasons i moved to Spain. Enjoy the good life.
@andywoodcock2803 To be honest, we would be happy if winter was 2-3 months max, but when it lasts 6 months and it's -20 out constantly, then the seasonal depression starts kicking in! 🤣

Spain is obviously not Canada, but as foreigners prefer to settle in Andalusia and the Mediterranean coast, they tend to think that Spain is like that. Naturally they do not settle in climates like Teruel where, as all Spaniards know, temperatures can reach -20º. And there are many more places like that. I know some cities in Andalusia, Cadiz, Seville, Malaga, Granada... spectacular and wonderful places, but when I travel from one to another the landscape depresses me and the heat of their summer crushes me. What I want to say is that the sun and the heat do not occur in all of Spain for those who think so because Spain is a Mediterranean country. I was born two hundred meters from the sea, all my childhood are memories of the whole days I spent on the beach... and it took me more than 50 years to get to know the Mediterranean. I would not change my Asturias for anything.

I have Spanish ancestry and have not been to Spain. I plan to visit next year but prefer to visit the areas where the heat is not as overbearing. Where is the best place to visit where the weather is more tolerable in the summer?
@@gloriaoppen8412 Without a doubt, the north, although in summer we can have days of more than 30ºC, but don't let the heat stop you from visiting other places in Spain. I like the north, but I also like the Alhambra and it's not in the north, so I try to avoid the Andalusian summer.Barcelona is in the north, but I've always been told that it's very hot in summer. The Cantabrian coast has the mildest summer, and the Canary Islands are famous for their fairly stable climate. Check it out.

we have property near you, which we use for holidays, i will be 60 next year and retiring. We will be living 6 months, during the winter, in spain and 6 months in the UK. I too feel much healthier and happier in Spain. Good video guys x

@mariaelvira1521 Yes, we live 45 min south of Alicante in Orihuela Costa. 🥰 For us, it's easy to travel with Levi since he has his EU Pet Passport. Traveling without that before was a little stressful as we had to have the proper documentation (vaccines and health certificate certified by a vet AND the Canadian Food Inspection Agency all within 10 days before traveling to Spain). I'm sure the process is very similar in the US. Once you live there or own a property, your doggies can receive their EU pet passport! 🙌 It will be much easier traveling with your schnauzers who will be able to sit in cabin with you. Levi is 53 lbs and has to travel in cargo (unfortunately).
I love Spain too, NOT their taxes. Better to not stay there over 180 days a year. If you do, you are considered a resident. All foreign sourced income is taxed. The "hacienda" doesn't play. Get a good tax attorney.
Totally get where you're coming from! Thankfully, Santi was born in Spain, so we don’t have to deal with those tax residency issues. But you're absolutely right-if you're there over 180 days, the 'hacienda' definitely makes sure you're considered a resident for tax purposes. A good tax attorney is a must for navigating that 🥰
Lived in Fuengirola, Malaga province for eight years in the 90s. We live in the Caribbean now, and visit Spain for a few mths. a year. Fun to get back, but not the paradise it was. Really crowded now.

Hi The health care system at Torrevieja is good mainly : I am 57 and i had a operation on my eyes last January. I was operated on quickly and my after care was excellent. Ps I love that walk . One downside of the Torrevieja area is that when summer comes it becomes a lot dirtier which is very sad, I wish these visitors would respect it more ( especially letting their dogs poo) Regards Nerissa Happy walking guys

Do you as Canadians are required to pay a high tax as residents ? I understand us North Americans we will have a very high tax, if we live in Spain but we are American citizens. I’m 55 my husband is 59 our dream is to moved to Spain as well, not sure where yet 😊 we been to Barcelona,Madrid and Costa del sol 5x But the tax situation has us a little worried and confused 🫤
@milariestoro5890 Canada and Spain have a double tax treaty. Pensions are taxed at 15%. I believe it's the same for the US, but I could be wrong. I would recommend speaking with a tax lawyer / accountant who knows the US / Spanish tax laws. I hope everything works out and you get to move to Spain! 🥰
I am Spanish, double taxation,,, Spain has an agreement signed with the USA and CANADA on double taxation,,, if your country collects taxes on your pension in your country of origin, in Spain you will have to file the declaration of the income specifying that you already pay your taxes in your country, and you should not pay anything in Spain, except the indirect taxes derived from having a property, (that is, if the city council charges the IBI of a house you will have to pay it,) Like all people who have properties in Spain, regardless of their income, ,,,

Second tranche up to 20,199 euros with a 24% rate. Third tranche up to 35,199 euros with a 30% rate. Fourth tranche up to 59,999 euros with 37%, well of the 40,000 euros the first 12,400 would pay 19%, the second tranche 20,100 euros we have 7,500 euros at 24% third tranche 35,000 euros at 30%, which would pay 9,900 euros at 30%, and the remaining 5,000 euros would pay 37%, that is, I would pay 12,400 euros at 19%--7,500 euros at 20%...9,900 euros at 30%, and 5,000 euros at 37%, people with that It's confusing, look, 50,000 euros at 37%, but it's not like that, this has the discounts that the law grants, so the amounts go down a lot, greetings
When we were looking for a holiday home, this area was much more affordable than the south, like Malaga. The beautiful beaches, hidden coves, and friendly expat community drew us in. Plus, it has all the comforts of home and 320 days of sunshine-what more could we ask for? 🙌

Healthcare is a top priority for us, and although we haven't used Spain's system yet, we've heard great things about it! 🇪🇸 There are also plenty of ways to make friends, like joining clubs or striking up a conversation while out walking or dining! 😊👋

Have you checked out the tax burdens in Spain once you become residents? They are steep! depending on where you live, buying property or renting can be quite expensive. I live in Portugal and I love the Iberian Peninsula. I love the fact that it has Mediterranean climate, but I come from California so I’ve known this all my life. You’ll find overtime that it is not Paradise.
@pbohearn you are totally right! No country is perfect (we mention this in our outro). Taxes in Spain are less than the taxes and cost of living in Canada. For us, Spain ticks all our boxes. 🥰

Hay un viaje de turismo cultural muy interesante por una zona menos conocida: Cáceres (Patrimonio de la humanidad), Parque Natural de Las Batuecas, La Alberca (un pueblo medieval declarado Monumento Nacional), Salamanca (Patrimonio de la humanidad). Es una zona de la España interior, cercana a la frontera con Portugal y muy distinta al Mediterráneo o al Norte-Cantábrico. También el Camino puede hacerse desde Cáceres. Es una ruta mucho menos conocida, su nombre es "vía de la plata" (es una antigua calzada romana) que se une al Camino francés en Astorga (León). Para la jubilación, merece la pena conocer Huelva. Es una zona mucho menos conocida y masificada y por ello las viviendas son más baratas. Tiene unas playas interminables, mucha naturaleza salvaje (Doñana) y unos productos tanto del mar como de la montaña que son famosos en toda España (sobre todo la gamba de Huelva y el jamón ibérico de Jabugo).
Tenemos planeado descubrir cada rincón de España, ¡especialmente el norte! Nos encanta la diversidad de paisajes, culturas y sabores que ofrece cada región. También planeamos hacer el Camino. ¡Estamos emocionados por lo que nos espera en esta aventura! 🙌
@jasonsweb1 the first beach is called Playa Aguamarina, and then the larger beach is called Playa de La Glea. If you have kids (of all ages), we highly recommend Playa de La Glea. 🙌🌟

We had a house in Spain for fifteen years and had to sell because of burglaries and street robberies. I wouldn’t recommend buying there if you want to be stress free.
@@MsElke11 We were in Alicante area, it was full of poor East Europeans and poor North Africans, alongside the relative affluence of second and third homeowners, everyone was a target and it was quite relentless.

Wife and I are considering retiring in Spain. We like the chill lifestyle and the wonderful food. We have only vacationed in Barcelona, Madrid and Sevilla so far. I would like to check out other parts of the country including Valencia and Malaga. Where we live in the USA is outrageously expensive, stressful and full of traffic. @@livinlavidacosta I think Americans make a lot higher salaries for the same job titles in Europe, but I believe Europeans are much happier. The stress in America is astronomical. I am so glad we have the option to move somewhere less stressful. We worked hard and always lived below our means. I think Americans are blinded by salary and do not account for cost of health care, college, child care, property tax, etc. We pay 11k in property tax every year for a small old house in Virginia. Also, very little work/life balance.

People in there seventys behaving like teenagers, I definitely believe that, I'm in that age bracket , I decided to attend active retirement, what a pack of complainers, like spoiled brats , all wanted to be the boss, I asked them if anyone was interested in music, or art, as I play the violin , or try to play I started a few years ago. Some laughed at me, so thought it was a crazy idea.disaster for me, I never went back.I travel to music festivals now and I meet great younger people who share the music and help me play. I'm now thinking of buying a property in Spain, but I will be very cautious of the grey army.

Lots of common sense advice there, and all five of your reasons are true. We have owned in San Luis Torrevieja since 1997 but still use it as a lock up and leave second home from U.K. Definately feel fitter with the Spanish climate and like yourselves easily surpass th 10k steps every day as well as regular swimming and cycling. The supermarket food has become more expensive but eating out is still chep compared to U.K. Keep it up you will definately extend your lifespan.

Thinking of Spain for retirement but certainly planning to visit at different times of the year first. I also think I wouldn’t want to live too close to the sea or at least high enough in case of tsunami as silly as it may sound. I love that there are mountains (and Pyrenees) for hiking and yet close to the sea and cities are walkable. Weather great. Socializing - yes lack of is my biggest concern just as it is in a new city and state where I am now. I joined hiking group, classes… gym, etc. Attend events. May be similar anywhere we decide to retire.
A lot to decide and budget if planning to ever return to the states.
Great video. Really honest, straight forward thoughts on 'what's good about living in Spain' . I'm looking forwards to following your progress and finally settling in to a good life in Spain. I lived in Andalucia,Sevilla: tough as hell trying to understand the Andaluz Spanish. I made good friends there, both Spanish and Expat. Then went and lived in Madrid for 5 years, which is great. I suddenly found that I could understand what people were actually saying in Spanish. The Andalucians chew off the end of each word - every word in the sentence. Madrilenos speak fast and clearly. I miss it all, and am seriously thinking about spending my later years of life back in Spain. I wish you both all the best, may life in Spain for you be full of adventure and discovery.

We bought a place in Villamartin about 8 years ago, we love the weather in Spain but at the moment I don't see myself retiring there. I know those beaches well and they are natural and beautiful. Lately, Spain has got very expensive, especially for food, The food is without doubt better than most places in Europe. The cost of cars are eyewateringly expensive. Fuel is cheaper than most big EU countries but unless you have large savings and a good pension income you would really want to choose your retirement area wisely.
Villamartin is a great area! 🥰 We hear you; it’s getting expensive everywhere! We weighed all the pros and cons, and for us, Spain is the right choice, even with the rising costs. Thank you for sharing your perspective too! 🤗

My husband and l retired early in Spain in 2022 and we are so happy here! We live in Madrid and with the excellent transportation we don't need to drive. We have a condo in playa Poniente in Benidorm that we go to a few times a year. The food, weather, affordable healthcare, etc etc etc makes it so worth it. One thing about Spain is that it has the diversity of a continent squeezed into the size of a State in the US. You will see it when you travel to Madrid, or to the north of Spain (Basque C., Asturias, Galicia, León..) and you compare the weather, people and landscapes to Alicante or to the South (Andalucía) and the East (Valencia, Barcelona) On a same day you can be on a sunny beach or in a snowy blizzard, with all the different people, food and culture that it means. Wij hebben 1jaar geleden een huis gekocht in Murcia , Camposol dat is zan de Costa Calida . Op 2 weken na alle dagen mooi weer gehad en in de winter was het 28 gr gemiddeld . Hier heerst een micro climaat wat wonderen doet voor je gezondheid . Heerlijk rustig hier en alles blijft open . Restaurants met 2x per week entertainment. Wij genieten dagelijks van ons mooie , betaalbare , huis met grote tuin en zwembad . Dit is puur genieten ..

We’re not too worried about squatters since we live in a gated urbanization, which gives us extra security. 🙌Plus, our keyholder checks on the property when friends and family aren’t staying, so that gives us peace of mind! 😃

We LOVE siesta time! Some tourists might not enjoy the shops and restaurants closing, but we think it’s totally worth it! 🙌

This gives a "looking through rose tinted glasses view of life in Spain". It is lovely but when you have a house to maintain, garden to look after, cooking a meal every day, cleaning the house inside and out, laundry shopping, maintenance of the home, doing exercise to keep ourselves active and healthy then trust me life here is nit all beach days, sitting in bars, restaurants and fiestas, fiestas and more fiestas. We have been in Spain for 3 weeks and not been out for a meal, nit been to a bar nor a fiesta - why we have had too much to do at home.
Thanks for sharing your experience! You're absolutely right-living in Spain isn’t just about hanging at the beach all day. There's real-life stuff like home upkeep and daily chores. We know that 100%, just rather be doing all that in Spain than Canada! 😉

Love your video! I'm British, but I married a beautiful Spanish lady in 1997 and moved to Murcia, Spain. We have a second home at the beach near where you are, in Mil Palmeras. It takes us around 45 minutes to drive there from Murcia and we go most weekends and holidays.
I love swimming in the sea. In the winter I use a wetsuit. My wife does SUP. We also go for long walks, and have passed these beaches many times. If you ever want to meet up, maybe we can help you out with some things, let me know. God bless +++

Will be retiring to Spain in 2025 and plan to spend at least 1 year moving around to different areas, mostly in Andalusia and the Murcia area of Costa Blanco, though we will check out your area for sure. We currently live and work in Asia (my wife is Filipina and I teach the US military in Japan) and only plan to go back to the US for family visits (I'm from NY and my family is now mostly in Florida.) I much prefer Europe and hope to get Spanish residency after my wife gets Spanish citizenship so we no longer have to deal with Filipino passports and visas. I spent time in Spain in the 90's and fell in love with the simple and slow lifestyle, and living on an island for 14 years has taught me that slow is best. You guys are doing it right. Enjoy!

I live in this part of Spain and yes life is good, however, i envy Canadian winters and the snow, frost and clear skies, in the uk winters are so miserable which is one of the reasons i moved to Spain. Enjoy the good life.

Spain is obviously not Canada, but as foreigners prefer to settle in Andalusia and the Mediterranean coast, they tend to think that Spain is like that. Naturally they do not settle in climates like Teruel where, as all Spaniards know, temperatures can reach -20º. And there are many more places like that. I know some cities in Andalusia, Cadiz, Seville, Malaga, Granada... spectacular and wonderful places, but when I travel from one to another the landscape depresses me and the heat of their summer crushes me. What I want to say is that the sun and the heat do not occur in all of Spain for those who think so because Spain is a Mediterranean country. I was born two hundred meters from the sea, all my childhood are memories of the whole days I spent on the beach... and it took me more than 50 years to get to know the Mediterranean. I would not change my Asturias for anything.

@@gloriaoppen8412 Without a doubt, the north, although in summer we can have days of more than 30ºC, but don't let the heat stop you from visiting other places in Spain. I like the north, but I also like the Alhambra and it's not in the north, so I try to avoid the Andalusian summer.Barcelona is in the north, but I've always been told that it's very hot in summer. The Cantabrian coast has the mildest summer, and the Canary Islands are famous for their fairly stable climate. Check it out.

For us, it's easy to travel with Levi since he has his EU Pet Passport. Traveling without that before was a little stressful as we had to have the proper documentation (vaccines and health certificate certified by a vet AND the Canadian Food Inspection Agency all within 10 days before traveling to Spain). I'm sure the process is very similar in the US. Once you live there or own a property, your doggies can receive their EU pet passport! 🙌 It will be much easier traveling with your schnauzers who will be able to sit in cabin with you. Levi is 53 lbs and has to travel in cargo (unfortunately).

I love Spain too, NOT their taxes. Better to not stay there over 180 days a year. If you do, you are considered a resident. All foreign sourced income is taxed. The "hacienda" doesn't play. Get a good tax attorney.
Totally get where you're coming from! Thankfully, Santi was born in Spain, so we don’t have to deal with those tax residency issues. But you're absolutely right-if you're there over 180 days, the 'hacienda' definitely makes sure you're considered a resident for tax purposes. A good tax attorney is a must for navigating that 🥰

If you go a bit further south towards Mojacar the properties are a lot cheaper as is the cost of living, scenery and beaches just as beautiful

The health care system at Torrevieja is good mainly : I am 57 and i had a operation on my eyes last January. I was operated on quickly and my after care was excellent. Ps I love that walk .
One downside of the Torrevieja area is that when summer comes it becomes a lot dirtier which is very sad, I wish these visitors would respect it more ( especially letting their dogs poo)

Do you as Canadians are required to pay a high tax as residents ? I understand us North Americans we will have a very high tax, if we live in Spain but we are American citizens. I’m 55 my husband is 59 our dream is to moved to Spain as well, not sure where yet 😊 we been to Barcelona,Madrid and Costa del sol 5x
But the tax situation has us a little worried and confused 🫤
@milariestoro5890 Canada and Spain have a double tax treaty. Pensions are taxed at 15%. I believe it's the same for the US, but I could be wrong. I would recommend speaking with a tax lawyer / accountant who knows the US / Spanish tax laws. I hope everything works out and you get to move to Spain! 🥰

I am Spanish, double taxation,,, Spain has an agreement signed with the USA and CANADA on double taxation,,, if your country collects taxes on your pension in your country of origin, in Spain you will have to file the declaration of the income specifying that you already pay your taxes in your country, and you should not pay anything in Spain, except the indirect taxes derived from having a property, (that is, if the city council charges the IBI of a house you will have to pay it,) Like all people who have properties in Spain, regardless of their income, ,,,

@@milariestoro5890 In Spain taxes are progressive, they are not the imposition that they prescribe, and I will give you an example, let's say a person in Spain earns 40,000 euros a year, well here we have the tax tables, remember it is 40,000 euros a year earned in Spain,,,,,,,,First tranche up to 12,450 euros that pays 19%. Second tranche up to 20,199 euros with a 24% rate. Third tranche up to 35,199 euros with a 30% rate. Fourth tranche up to 59,999 euros with 37%, well of the 40,000 euros the first 12,400 would pay 19%, the second tranche 20,100 euros we have 7,500 euros at 24% third tranche 35,000 euros at 30%, which would pay 9,900 euros at 30%, and the remaining 5,000 euros would pay 37%, that is, I would pay 12,400 euros at 19%--7,500 euros at 20%...9,900 euros at 30%, and 5,000 euros at 37%, people with that It's confusing, look, 50,000 euros at 37%, but it's not like that, this has the discounts that the law grants, so the amounts go down a lot, greetings

When we were looking for a holiday home, this area was much more affordable than the south, like Malaga. The beautiful beaches, hidden coves, and friendly expat community drew us in. Plus, it has all the comforts of home and 320 days of sunshine-what more could we ask for? 🙌

Healthcare is a top priority for us, and although we haven't used Spain's system yet, we've heard great things about it! 🇪🇸 There are also plenty of ways to make friends, like joining clubs or striking up a conversation while out walking or dining! 😊👋

Have you checked out the tax burdens in Spain once you become residents? They are steep! depending on where you live, buying property or renting can be quite expensive. I live in Portugal and I love the Iberian Peninsula. I love the fact that it has Mediterranean climate, but I come from California so I’ve known this all my life. You’ll find overtime that it is not Paradise.
@pbohearn you are totally right! No country is perfect (we mention this in our outro). Taxes in Spain are less than the taxes and cost of living in Canada. For us, Spain ticks all our boxes. 🥰

Hay un viaje de turismo cultural muy interesante por una zona menos conocida: Cáceres (Patrimonio de la humanidad), Parque Natural de Las Batuecas, La Alberca (un pueblo medieval declarado Monumento Nacional), Salamanca (Patrimonio de la humanidad). Es una zona de la España interior, cercana a la frontera con Portugal y muy distinta al Mediterráneo o al Norte-Cantábrico. También el Camino puede hacerse desde Cáceres. Es una ruta mucho menos conocida, su nombre es "vía de la plata" (es una antigua calzada romana) que se une al Camino francés en Astorga (León). Para la jubilación, merece la pena conocer Huelva. Es una zona mucho menos conocida y masificada y por ello las viviendas son más baratas. Tiene unas playas interminables, mucha naturaleza salvaje (Doñana) y unos productos tanto del mar como de la montaña que son famosos en toda España (sobre todo la gamba de Huelva y el jamón ibérico de Jabugo).
Tenemos planeado descubrir cada rincón de España, ¡especialmente el norte! Nos encanta la diversidad de paisajes, culturas y sabores que ofrece cada región. También planeamos hacer el Camino. ¡Estamos emocionados por lo que nos espera en esta aventura!

@jasonsweb1 the first beach is called Playa Aguamarina, and then the larger beach is called Playa de La Glea. If you have kids (of all ages), we highly recommend Playa de La Glea. 🙌🌟

We had a house in Spain for fifteen years and had to sell because of burglaries and street robberies. I wouldn’t recommend buying there if you want to be stress free.

@@MsElke11 We were in Alicante area, it was full of poor East Europeans and poor North Africans, alongside the relative affluence of second and third homeowners, everyone was a target and it was quite relentless.
Also, if you are not there full-time, you may come back and find that you’ve got squatters living in your house and it’s very difficult to get them out legally. The laws in favor of the squatters.
