    A dude held his own against Tyson in his prime

    • @Daveymallon
      @Daveymallon 4 роки тому +36

      Ridge Moore Tyson already wasn’t in his prime by then. He was 3 years removed from Rooney and 3 years intoxicated by kings poison. Tyson still had most of the skill that made him great but he was slipping due to a lack of dedication in the gym. Post Rooney, Tyson was running the show but this fight was about who was more man and Tyson showed what he was really made of. People think Tyson was just a bully but it’s ignorance. He was once an amazingly skilled fighter but by this point he was more or less a skilled gun slinger with big balls. He could’ve had a toe to toe with any man in history. Ruddock could decapitate you with that smash and Tyson took loads of them flush and never even nearly went down once in two fights with Ruddock. Says a lot..

    • @Daveymallon
      @Daveymallon 4 роки тому +6

      Theunorthodoxfighter what about the left straight after it. He definitely felt that shot before he landed his left hook. You could see him slow for a second but he wasn’t going to go down. Yeah he has an amazing Chin. Look at the guys that beat him(not Williams or McBride) but Lewis Holyfield and Douglas. It was well into the second half of the fight before they got him out of there. He could dish it but he definitely could take it that’s why I say that at his best, when he could slip, throw combos and had amazing speed and accuracy, none of those guys would beat him. He would’ve knocked Lewis and Holyfield out and even the Buster Douglas that he fought, he would’ve been able to negotiate that too.

      I agree with David Mallon. He didn't have the same level of defense, head movement, or counter punching, the shifting from conventional to southpaw, he wasn't throwing combos like he did in his true prime, no peek a boo here, someone turned him (maybe himself?) Into a normal boxer, style wise. He ate a lot of punches that a younger Tyson would've easily slipped & countered.

      @Fluke Your pissed off because you got outsmarted, people like you just want to stand toe to toe and just trade haymakers until one falls over. If you want any type of longevity you are going to use the rules of the match to your advantage. If it wasn't smart people wouldn't do it...
      If you want to watch two idiots bare knuckle box there is a new league now that just started within the last year or two. Or go join the military and bust some heads yourself

    • @ajcook7777
      @ajcook7777 4 роки тому +16

      @Fluke I highly disagree with you. In order to remain in and defend yourself for 12 rounds you must have the endurance of an athlete. Period.
      Pacquiao, Mayweather, Ali, just to name a few all used their athletics to persevere and last the whole fight. Actually, their entire fight plan WAS to use their athletics and they are some of the greatest fighters to ever live, so no, your statement of, "None of the greatest fighters ever in the sport were athletes", is completely false and untrue.

    • @penguinxman
      @penguinxman 4 роки тому +3

      Fluke even Tyson himself said it’s not a tough man sport. It’s about being smart.

    • @Baal1one1
      @Baal1one1 4 роки тому +13

      It’s obvious some of you are Mayweather fans. You’re also trying to redefine what a fighter is to suit your argument. Let’s take Floyd for example. He’s a hell of an athlete. No doubt. He’s no fighter though. While a fighter might try not to get hit, he doesn’t run away from it either.
      Combat sports are a thing because it’s exciting watching two combatants try to inflict enough pain and/or damage to one another until one has had enough. If it wasn’t about that then it would never have become a sport. The very beginnings of boxing was people wanting to watch two guys duke it out. It drew crowds. Slowly more and more rules got introduced but at it’s core boxing remained a competition between two men doing combat and that’s what people expected to see. Why did boxing start to die out when Klitschko was sitting atop the heavyweight division?! Because nobody wants to watch a boring point fighting match. Again that’s not what boxing ever was. It’s not just a sport. It’s a combat sport. It’s competitors should not just be athletes. They also need to be fighters.
      If fighting isn’t what you want to see and all you’re really interested in is watching a competition with guys trying to score more points then there’s a lot of non-combat sports out there that can foot that bill just fine.

      I think that was his game plan, end it soon shock the world, but Tyson's chin was ironclad, example when Razor hit him with an uppercut then followed with a left hook, Tyson's response one of the best left hook counters you'll see which dropped Ruddock. Mike Tyson's chin was never a subject matter prior to this fight, obviously he destroyed everyone before him. Razor Ruddock hit him with all his might several times and Mike ate those shots. He may have rocked him but to say one of the greatest fighters of all-time would of been floored in the opening seconds, is a bit of a stretch to say the least.

    When Holyfield defeated Buster Douglas, he was supposed to fight Razor Ruddock next but opted to fight George Foreman instead. A prime Holyfield against this version of Ruddock would have made for some explosive action. Ruddock is probably the greatest heavyweight of his era to never win a world title.

    • @philjohnson9320
      @philjohnson9320 2 роки тому +1

      Ruddock was a goof who didn't know how to use his height and jab. If he did he would beaten short Mike by keeping him away until it was time to unleash the big right. This is how Lewis beat Tyson. But Lewis was also a smart fighter.

      Had Lewis fought Tyson in 1993 , Tyson would have mauled Lewis and knocked him in 5th round.
