@@mckenzie.latham91 Well, for starters, it was Republicans who fought tooth and nail against the southern Democrats to ratify the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. While Thaddeus Stevens (who had an African American wife) and the other radical Republicans passed these Amendments, they could only enforce them so much as without Lincoln, and with southern Democrats using Jim Crow tactics and lynching innocent African American freedmen, they were next to powerless. It was also a Democrat (Woodrow Wilson) who screened Birth of a Nation (Perhaps the most racist film in history).
