Mega Man IV is one of the superstars of the Game Boy library - it's made so well that, if not for the lack of color, you'd never know it was a Game Boy game.
The Mega Man World games on Game Boy were usually well done for some of the original Game Boy's limits, and also giving some original content like the Mega Man Killers as well as what 5 did with the Stardroids for example.
Good lord that Intro music kicks me right in the Nostalgia! Thanks so much for letting that play and not just pressing start to skip it. They absolutely killed it with this game from the music to the cutscenes to the stages. The Gameboy had one helluva Sound Chip for it's time and they really outdid themselves with this title. This will always one of my favorite Gameboy games of all time. Now I have to go see if anyone has done a color hack of it :)
Oh, and I've finally put together a playlist of all of my Mega Man playthroughs. If you're interested, check it out! ua-cam.com/play/PL3gSj_kh1fHv_byjbzySGOUL9OBLnrQcP.html
It's really interesting to me how each of the GB entries has bits from the game of the same name, plus the next one in the series. And I like how the stages are similar to their NES counterparts, but different enough to be interesting. It's almost like a what-if scenario. Like, what if Mega Man went a different route through this area? Pretty cool.
Well, in Mega Man canon, the Mega Man World series on Game Boy is set at different points in the franchise between some of the base games they take elements from while V is set between main game 5 and 6.
Amazing game. My brother had it for game boy and I used to play it on road trips when my family went on vacation. The soundtrack alone was killer. Ended up rebuying it on my 3Ds.
Wow, I’ve been watching the GB and NES play throughs from 1- 5 on both systems and this game looks and feels like they put their heart into this product. Everything about it feels right.
I completely agree, Mega Man 4 is the NES Mega Man 2 of the Gameboy titles. It's freaking superb. And man, that intro music & cutscene is my favorite in the entire series, for all systems. Playing this after Mega Man 2 GB makes you realize how far they came when it came to the Gameboy titles.
Well, Mega Man II GB was made by a different outsourced developer who had no idea what Mega Man was. Minakuchi Engineering did 1,3,4, and 5. All four of them play VERY consistently with each other, but in comparison to 1, 3 was the first one where they really started figuring out the system. Particularly in the sound department.
This encounter with Wily is one of the most epic in the series I've seen yet! I don't know what it is about the way it was presented with the music and everything, but the final battle with Ballade and Dr. Wily in his freaking *WARSHIP in SPACE* and Wily's *GIANT MECH* was really a step above anything that you see in the NES games, even! It was all just so epic, it's one of my favorite final fights in the entire series. And this was done on *GAME BOY,* no less!! This game is awesome. RIP Ballade! Your noble sacrifice was not in vein. See you, Ballade, in the inexplicable DLC cameo boss fight in Mega Man 10! XD
3:45 is actually the best spot in the entire game to grind P Chips very early on. You can just run back and forth and those birds will continue to spawn and will drop loads of P Chips each time. You can get the timing down good where one charged shot will rip thru them all each time. There are also some hidden P Chip pickups later in the stage hidden behind the waterfall in the one part where you can walk behind it. Also, in Pharaoh Man's stage at the very beginning, there is stuff hidden under the ledges that sit just above the sand. If you let yourself sink into the sand and go up under those ledges you'll collect the hidden items. I can't remember if it's an extra life or P Chip pickup but there is stuff hidden under one or two of those ledges.
Adding the "Dr. Bright Lab." was a great feature. I remember re-playing the Toad stage a lot (because it was the easiest one) to farm these chips for Dr. Bright. Revisiting old stages to collect all B-E-A-T letters in case you missed them and then get this little bird was also a nice idea. And the music...ah this was one of my fav gameboy games.
I just wane go back back to 1999... life no stressful even doesn't have money back thn... living wht the life so wonderful.... i miss my gameboy....😭😭😭😭😭
I consider myself lucky to have all the classic series Mega Man games on Gameboy, yes Mega Man V included. A friend helped set me up for 4 and 5, the first 3 I got on my own locally.
aww brings back good memories when I was 9. I remember that when you get attack by an opponent, there is a 3 second lag time where you won't die on the spikes, I used that trick quite often :).
57:15. Is Wily ever gonna give up? Not only he had a Castle as usual and had it destroyed by Mega Man, but this time he escaped to freaking space to his secret Space Ship as last resort. I love that cutscene, and reminder that this was done on a GAME BOY, of all systems. Graphically impressive if you ask me.
No argument here, this is the peak of the Game Boy Mega Man games, though MMV is a very very close second. While Capcom still stuck with the template from the previous three titles, it started to add some original ideas such as the shop.
@@bubbykins4864 They have a set pattern you can learn to dodge They have a specific weakness They have stages to get through to get to them They give you their weapon when defeated They are robot masters, the only difference is they weren't built by Wily and are named after planets

Might be late but I consider this to be the best of the five Mega Man World games. Also the one that has the best Wily stages theme in possibly the whole series (well... maybe besides Wily Stage 2 from MM7). And to think I slept on this series all the way until 2023.
It's actually not a real Game Boy. Sure looks like it though, right? I must be doing it right if people can't tell :D The effect is being done with shaders in Retroarch. There are all sorts of powerful graphics processing options the program provides. If you like it, check out my Handhelds playlist. Most of my Game Boy and Game Gear recordings have been done like this!
poptropica bob I've got the first 4 done like this. The 5th I did with Super Gameboy. It would be virtually impossible to get a good real recording I think. Focusing would be a nightmare because you have to hold the system and it would move. And good luck getting decent lighting.
Man I wish the Analogue NT Mini had filters like this... playing this game right now on my NT Mini and it just doesn't look as nice as this filter here. This looks so much like the original Gameboy screen it's uncanny!
I find that the literal order that the first four bosses appear in this game is actually the proper order to play them in. I can't recall about the 2nd set of four, but holy hell is the cutscene between the first and 2nd four bosses so freaking dope! I can also say that the Toad Man stage is the perfect stage to farm P chips as there are a ton of them hidden in spots, and the swooping bird guys drop lots of them too! You can get enough to buy everything just from farming the swooping little birds at the beginning of that stage!
Weakness for the second set of robot masters for this version - Napalm Man is weak to Pharaoh Shot - Napalm is made of sticky flammable material in which a single flame can set it on fire. In his case, his napalm bombs can prematurely explode. Charge Man with Rain Flush - He's an industrial revolution, steam powered locomotive which he's powered by coal. The water will render it useless. Crystal Man with Charge Kick - Hitting the glass ball using a powerful force like kicks will shatter it into tiny pieces.
I fucking love that screen filter you're using there. It's uncanny how realistic it looks compared to a real Gameboy. I hear the GBA Consolizer has a similar one. Got mine preordered, can't freaking wait to get it in!

Just went back and beat the game after many long years, was just as fun as I remember it being from my childhood. I will say that the game is fairly easy compared to other Mega Man games, however Crystal Man's stage can be pretty brutal your first time through it til you figure out how to get through. It's by far the longest and toughest stage in the game, and even it isn't that bad. The rest of the game is pretty easy to be honest, and the Charged up Mega Buster is pretty overpowered and is really all you need to beat any of the bosses. I also noticed that there are no credits at all at the end of the game which is rather bizarre. There's just a Boss Roll showing all the bosses in the game and a thank you for playing screen at the end.
