Thanks for this very interesting and valuable video. I definitely subscribe to your channel. I have one question about your videowhich shows people wearing COVID protective mask in a lot of public areas. I believe this video is recent so what does it mean ? is the mask enforcement still in place there ?
There are no longer any covid restrictions in Mexico (and there are not many during covid) but people can decide for themselves - so you still might see a few wearing masks. Seems it would be awfully hot to me…
I was there with my family last year. It’s not the first time I traveled to Mexico, I actually live in Mexico for 4 years. Playa del Carmen it’s a nice to visit, but make sure you bring lots of money everything is so expensive. And everyone is trying to take advantage of you. The island of Cozumel is even worse. I’ll never go back.
Honestly, PDC is not known for its beach and the seaweed issue is a problem everywhere along the Riviera Maya. We do have a separate video on that (made after this one so we couldn’t include it here). I just came back from Playa. I was there on part vacation, part condo hunt. I stayed close to 5th Ave. Overall, it was a ho-hum experience. Costs along 5th Ave can be hit or miss and surprisingly expensive when you consider costs in Mexico generally. Expect to be overcharged somehow or another. Elsewhere in Mexico, the same items are for sale at half price. There is constant badgering to buy something. After an afternoon, I had enough. There is a heavy police/military presence - about 150 scattered along 5th Ave.. Many cops had their entire face covered to protect their identity from the drug cartels. An afternoon at a beach club is at least $950 pesos per person for a beer, cocktail, chair/umbrella and meal. Expect them to overcharge somehow. The beaches are nice. There is a vibrant nightlife. A beerwill cost you $110 pesos ($6.50), or about five times the retail cost. It is worth it to go on a tour of Chitzen Itza which is usually packaged with a Cenote tour and another stop of some sort. A buffet lunch is often included. Mine was a milk run to pick-up/drop-off people which added several hours to the trip for nothing. Again, expect to have hidden costs and constant badgering to buy things. If you are coming from USA or Canada, getting there is inexpensive and just a few hours fllying time. Frankly, Florida is a much better deal for a beach vacation. Stay closer to home and avoid Mexico where you have ATM written on your forehead. If you are there for the drugs, you are part of a big problem - do everyone a favour and stay home.

no mention of beaches, seaweed, which hotels clean their beach fronts... etc
