I am a single 76 year old lady, moved into a bungalow that needs some renovation. My recent experience, is that work men class themselves as professionals. I have never been given a detailed work scheduled and expected to pay cash. Once paid they don't return to finish or correct a problem. I have had so called professionals that have had a lack of respect for me and my home. I am following your UA-cam video and gain a lot of information from you. Thank you.
This is why me and the PCA bang on about getting relevant qualifications and get adhere to a code of conduct. Hopefully my channel give our industry some transparency.
I have a smell of damp throughout and evidence of damp in cupboards. I have dismantled a fitted wardrobe due to damp. I have had vents fitted in the soffits and each chimney stack and roof around attended to, all costly work. Each trades person has advises on a different solution. All confusing information and I don't know who is right. There should be regulations for any one that carries out work, as electricians and plumbers have certificates. It should be regulated that invoices, receipts and guarantees are provided. Business cards should have the person's identity, qualifications or stage of competency and include a business address. I thought this move would be a pleasant experience. Bring back the apprenticeships. Regards
Simon. I had tears running down my face with this one mate. You crack me up. That mess on the floor, not covering up. 😱. Laughing so much I look like I’ve been crying 😂 😂. You should be on the stage. Take care. Craig.
Thank you so so much for this fabulous informative video you have just hit the nail on the head and saved me a lot of money I was unsure as to what was causing the patches of what looked like sweating, but l think gypsum plaster was used to brick up fireplace. Regards L .RUSSELL.
Hi any advice on a surveyor that has mis diagnosed a job that iv worked on? It's was moulded walls and he got me hack off re render and skim, which I don't think the customer need at all,it's a solid floor no air vents at all,and the mould was coming up behind 2 big sofas, and only 1 window has a trickle vent and that was closed
curious - why not just backng plaster and then a skim plaster- why do you have to have backing board? this didnt have plasterborad to begin with - just asking
could do with your opinion on it sam is there any way I can send you some videos I know a bit about damp proofing but not on your level the salts coming through at sealing line it's 9 inch brickwork and the render is blowing surely should fix the outside before the inside what do you think
Ive had an independent damp survey done and they said improve ventilation in the cellar and then knock off the plaster on the whole side of my house (2 rooms and fire places). The walls look ok and not really much visible dampness aside from on one chimney breast (due to the sut in there and its closed off). I really dont want ro replaster. At what point do you really need to replaster? I want to paint the walls but dont want to do that and then realise i shoulve replastered! Theres no peeling and wasnt picked up in the home buyers survey so hadnt budgeted for it.
All plasterers should remember that plaster contains ammonia which reacts with the tanic acid in oak. It's virtually impossible to remove the stains so cover that floor properly.
Tell me about it, when I was a plasterer in my early 20s we renovated a farm house and the guy had all oak doors n casings and window frames installed new untreated, they all ended up with black marks on them
You are so right. What a total lack of respect for this home. Maybe its his house, either way he's putting himself out there. Disappointed. Thank goodness your helping clear things up. I've got a damp problem on an i ternal wall, caused i think by a leaking pipe in the wall. I'll gk on to your site to see what yoy think Sam. Thanks .
Just wondering does gypsum bonding often cause an issue or does it depend on the bricks maybe? People use it all the time so I wonder if those that have an issue are the unlucky few but I guess they're the folks that call you so you see it a lot. There's a few filled in chases in my house that haven't caused a problem. Is there something better to use just in case it causes the damp patch from the salts? Cheers
To answer your question seeing has no one else is capable... It firstly depends on if you have cavity walls - lets assume not as 75% of issues are with solid walls. You need to plaster with non-hydraulic lime in short. Get rid of any pink gypsum, it traps moisture - Google it!
that's all my customer that it needs line plastering then DAB over the top of it with thermo boards the damp patches upstairs and 6 ft high in the kitchen they told her it was Rising Damp
What's wrong with using sand cement ... like for like with a bit of sbr in the mix. Great commentary Sam. Last one I watched where the lessons with people learning close up had me in stitches 🤣🤣🤣 . sometimes your comments are gold 👍.
The problem with getting a “free” survey done is it’s not independent. You know the “surveyor” is in fact a salesman who get commission on the chemicals he sells……hence don’t expect a true diagnosis of the problem.
pull the f****** skirtings after probably breached the Old damp course in a renovation this is one of the most common faults and people blocking air vents up or using the wrong plaster
gotta meet with a damp company Wednesday at one of my customers houses dive charged a three and a half grand to do 3 1/2 m diffuse dry zone sticks sand and cement which has cracked painted the outside of the house the problems hire up in the wall external render has blowing pretty sure you should leave sand and cement seven days before skimming and you shouldn't go over that the injection holes rod holes the skyline looks like a banana too many cowboys out there 😂😂😂

Without seeing the job it’s hard to say, normally when plaster is contaminated and you have decoration spoil

Hardball is better in older houses or areas exposed to moisture
It’s not a good product with salts

Sand & cement with additive is ok but not on an external solid wall as it can cold bridge
@@dampsam Ah, solid wall. So no cavity 👍
If you read the comments on the original DIY video you’ll see that someone watched this video and passed off DampSams solution as their own!
Really ? Hmmm 🤔
good vid this. plasterwork looked well at end, he might wanna stick to that does lad
