In 25 years of gaming I've played lots of platformers, and tons of Mario, and I will say DKCR and especially DKTF is by far one of the ( if not ) best games I've ever played. Games like Kirby or the majority of Mario never quite felt as fantastic. Something about tropical freeze checked all boxes for me. A gorgeous overworld, fantastic unique bosses, truly amazing soundtrack and as you've mentioned perfect and memorable level design. I read through other comments on this game that apparently the dev team kept challenging each other through each level, which shows why every level is so unique and so perfect, nothing is ever repeated unlike Kirby.. mario or other platformers. I could honestly go on for ages as I truly find this one of the best platformers out there and hope more will find out; fantastic video!! :D Any favorite level? I couldn't easily pick one, it's all so good!
I'm not sure if I could pick a favorite level. Maybe I could've when I had just played it but I'm not sure. My favorite WORLD though I think would have to be either the one with the popsicles or the last world. The last world was an excellent display of how you can take the classic "lava world" theme and still make it interesting!
Hey guys! I just wanted to say that this video was made a couple weeks ago when I made the other starting videos. This video is the same quality as the others but to me that is not nearly good enough for you yet. The next video will be much higher quality and I’m going to try some new stuff with the thumbnail. For a second I almost scrapped this video but I thought it might be better to just keep creating rather than trying to make the perfect video. Thanks for joining me and expect much more very soon!
One great thing about both modern DKC games is that their difficulty curve is just incredibly persistent. There aren't that many sudden spikes (especially in TF, Returns definitely has a few) it just keeps steadly getting harder and harder and you almost don't even realize how much better you've gotten as the game goes on
This game perfectly showcases what makes Donkey Kong Country so special as a franchise. The levels are mechanically interesting, but the mechanics are also weaved into the art direction. The platforms all have a reason for existing, nothing about it feels like you're running an obstacle course. It manages to have gameplay purity while also delivering on spectacle. It's like it took the best of Mario and Sonic and combined it together while also doing way more than those two.
How could you possibly have 500 subs? This is amazing work, one of the best level design videos on UA-cam and it’s by a creator this small? I’ve seriously watched a ridiculous amount of game design videos and this is awesome
I have been playing Mario games my hole life and after playing through DKCTF, not only is it one of my favorite platformers, but it made me HATE New Super Mario Bros U even more. I couldn't sit through one level without being frustrated at how much better Donkey Kong was.
See I love all the donkey kong country games and I played dk returns on my 3ds from when I was about 4 until I was about 9. I played it so many times and I loved it. When I was 10 I played dk tropical freeze on switch on funky mode and it was fairly challegeing. But within thepast 2 years I played the og donkey kong games and I found them very hard and I replayed dk returns and dk tropcial feeze (on classic mode) and they were really easy. I don't know if its because I played dk country returns so many times but does anyone else feel as if this game is easy?
I think that Donkey Kong is a game where once you learn how to play it becomes easy. These games handle very different from other platformers so its almost as if you have to get into the right mindset. But once you do these games can be a breeze!
What a great channel I stumbled upon here. I hope you continue to make great content! Some pointers: Make better thumbnails. Right now they arent terrible but they feel pretty generic. Make the background texture stand out more maybe? (right now most of them feels single colour even though they arent) and more interesting font or text composition. As for the video, I really liked it but it was kinda weird when the end of the video you listed things that didnt have much to do with the video topic, like bringing back dixie and drums. I dont think that should be deleted, it gives charm that distinguishes it from videos like game makers toolkit, but a better transition between jokes/opinions from the topic could improve the video? Just an idea im not sure if I am 100% correct on this.
The jokes i have definitely feel more like "me" so I'm glad that you found some charm in them. Im going to work alot harder on making the scripts flow better and the thumbnails are a big concern for me right now. Thank you so much for your genuine feedback!

Another great video :).
Thanks DeSquid!

You call Tropical Freeze perfect yet use an image from Returns for the thumbnail. Fascinating.
DKTF is the best 2d platformer ever! It isn’t debatable!
i am a long time DKC fan, and almost drop this game in the last boss! XD
the game is amazing, but is hard as hell!
It had a much higher difficulty curve for sure. I am pretty good at platformers and this game gave me a few problems. I like the challenge tho!😂

Hands down the next MatPat formula or easily take over for Digressing and Sidequesting. I wish someone paved the way after he passed.
Can you expand on what you mean? I didn't understand this comment. Sorry!

This game is seamless. It feels so perfect when playing and so did the originals!

Thank you so much for the compliment. I try my hardest to put as much quality as I can in these videos.
DKCTF climbed its way to being one of my favorite games ever through its level design alone. This is how you merge gameplay and presentation.
I have been playing Mario games my hole life and after playing through DKCTF, not only is it one of my favorite platformers, but it made me HATE New Super Mario Bros U even more. I couldn't sit through one level without being frustrated at how much better Donkey Kong was.
This channel is amazing, super underrated.
It means a lot for you to say that! I have put a lot of time and effort into these first few videos!

@@TheGhostyGames Ye that makes sense because the mechanics in the original trilogy are fairly different therefore I find them much harder.
@@TheGhostyGames undderated channel by the way keep up the good work g

he really called game design “level laws” 🥲
Yeah when i wrote the script I thought "oh this will sound clever"😐 It didn't
