As a police officer myself im here to inform you that as you described the situation those florida policemen violated 4 laws that police have to follow 1 of which was a felony that the policemen committed

I agree with you. And i'm so glad i live in a more peaceful country. We don"t have schoolshootings. And it doesn't make sense for the police to act so aggressive. I think they are scared, otherwise there's no need to act so aggressive.
No offense, but Sam and Colby are the last people I'd call intimidating. The resource officers could have checked their backpacks and found only cameras and flashlights in those 30 minutes waiting for the real cops. Unless they get their jollies scaring kids (which at 22, we all were). If so, ironic, right?
Not to defend the how the boys were treated, but let me paint you a picture why the police may have reacted the way they did.
Point 1: We have two boys in backpacks running frantically around the school grounds
Point 2: I'm sure we are all aware that school shootings happen (sadly) in the US
Point 3: The school that they’re in is an elementary school
I don’t think I need to explain further as to how this may have seemed to the school security and the police. For all they know, worst case scenario of this is they’re dealing with potential school shooters.
This may not be a reality for some of us (those who live outside the US) sorry for my bad English as you may have guessed I'm not from there. School shootings invoke strong emotions to all of us specifically because these things (school shootings) and the casualties being mostly kids.
This may have been the best case scenario not just for Sam and Colby but also for the police mostly because this means they don’t have to deal with the emotional trauma it brings if what they feared the worst is what they were going to deal with. Just some perspective. I could be wrong though but that is literally the first thing that I thought about when Sam and Colby was surrounded. The police were probably thinking they are dealing with mass shooters. Sorry for reposting the comment. I just feel it would be helpful to offer a different perspective

The trauma will always remain but your ability to deal with the trauma will increase. You are strong and deserve to take all the time you need for you to heal. Be kind to yourself. For people who ever get in a Situation like that (or really any situation with the police etc):
Keep filming. You are allowed to film officers, it's your right in order to prove that they make their job right and don't treat you in a bad way. Should an officer ever tell you to 'stop filming' you can say no and that it is your right to film the interaction.
Also you can ask for their name and number and they HAVE to tell you that. And should you ever feel the need for an lawyer don't say 'I want a lawyer', say that you use your right to get a lawyer to your side and until then deny any statement, otherwise they could say that you never specified enough that you asked for a lawyer in that moment.

I am not too sure about the filming since the school buildings may could as private property meaning that they may be able to ask you to stop recording as long as you are in the grounds

True shit people, read that cause cops try to trick people who aren’t as educated on it. That way shit don’t get out, and I don’t mean like crimes just cops obviously just wanting to do things their way which is probably the way that never solves shit.
You don't say "I use my right to get a lawyer at my side" you say "id like to speak to my lawyer its my constitutional right and i have the right to remain silent until i speak to them" and you have to have your own lawyer or attorney to call. You make it sound like the cops will just have a lawyer come rescue you whenever you say that. Also they were on private property you can't film on private land. The only thing you got right was the name and badge number stop spreading misinformation you're gonna make alot of people seem really stupid when they get pulled over for having a brake light out and someone tells the cop "I use my right to get a lawyer to my side"
but if they would have recorded it that they would of got a bullet in there head bc they have the full right to shoot them anyway so their is no reason to record when they have the opportunity to shoot you at any moment i wouldn't risk making them more angry because that what gets you killed you need to take any chance to be as respectful to the police officers as you can or you are going to die i would never in a situation like that ask for any info if there screaming at me like that because they could be done with me and just want me to die since they think there so bad as catching 2 , 21 year old men that could have been a danger to the kids.

Very unprofessional police officers. My grandpa is currently a retired police officer and I asked his thoughts on it. He said that if you were surrounded (in this case you were) all they should've done was taken your backpack and done a quick body search to make sure no weapons were being held and then would've let you go. You honestly could've sued some fo them for handling this very unproffesionally.

Wow that did not look like an elementary school. I'm from Australia (just so you know I don't know if other elementary schools look like this in Australia) and the fact they had cops at the school and a security box thing at the front was insane like at my school you could just walk through the front and stuff and it was very small.

Since the shooting at the school in Florida, security is tight. The ones who came at you were out of line pushing Sam's face into a fence. Also, it's not professional at all to gloat and tease the suspects. However, in light of past events I can understand their overzealous actions. I'm glad it all turned out okay for both of you - could definitely been a disaster if either of you made a move which they interpreted as you reaching for a weapon.

I'm so sorry you guys went through that I know it's a long time ago but I honestly just started watching your channel. This is the new America and you should not have been treated that way! I have been through a similar situation no weapons pointed at us but three cop card bombarded us because we were parked by a Pharmacy waiting for our meds and they made us come out and accused us of dealing! It took 7 cops to sit there and tell them we were literally just waiting and they checked my purse and everything! Not necessary!

My school (it used to be a kmart) was near the shooting. I got extremely paranoid to the point i would not go outside. My cousin didnt go to school the next day. We had a code red three days after, and it was real. We almost died. Since then, we got hightened security, 10 cops min walking around the school with guns and tasers. A student got tased cause he got into a fight. I didn't feel safe after that

I just want to say; as someone who works in law enforcement. You were lied to. They could not had fired on you for any reason unless they can articulate the report to fit the their body camera and or the camera’s on the school that you presented a threat. The fact that you guys complied and kept your hands up and didn’t reach for anything is enough to keep you safe. However they were not wrong for drawing their weapons and demanding compliance because they did not know what was in your bag/waistline etc. but after they gained compliance gained control over the situation placed you in handcuffs it’s time for “de-escalation” and to figure out what is going on. But no, they could not had shot you and got away with it. There has to be a threat presented that can be undeniably reasonable to believe their lives were in danger. The way it works is “How would an average human being perceive the situation” would they perceive it as a threat or would they perceive it as compliance. They would had definitely faced charges and 9 out of 10 percent chance they would had faced conviction. But they did not deal with it right or appropriately and I hope you guys filed a complaint and got some badge numbers. If not be sure to in the future and always be careful on what you tell us because you can incriminate yourself very easily.

They didn't present a threat at all, if they shot at them they would have been fired or worse. Your only allowed to shoot if they have a weapon, are trying to hurt someone, or just shit like that. My Dad died from cancer at home in october. A coroner and a cop came to wait with us while the rest of the people came to take Dad away. My mom and I are sobbing in the living room and the cop and coroner stood 10 ft away from us cracking jokes and laughing loud, and when they werent doing that, the cop would stand 3 ft away from us with his arms crossed while glaring at us. This went on for about 3 hours. I wish I would have gotten up and told them to go outside if they were going to sit there laughing while we are going through the worst thing in the world. While my Dad was laying on the floor covered by a sheet. When I went in to sit by him for the last time, the coroner came in and invaded my space and rushed me out.

We both wish we had said something to them to shut them up or at least had reported them but everything was so overwhelming and horrid that we were scared to say anything to anyone in case they tried to turn around and make our lives hell for no reason bc we said something about how fucking horrible they were

Actually adding to this I remembered that year before you guys went there was the parkland shooting north of Miami. Everything involving school safety was on 1000 but no excuse for badly trained officers
