Ben was my favorite Western star. I remember when he died. A fine man and great actor. His acting was so relaxed and believable. Thanks for this video.
I met and visited with Ben at Ruidoso Downs in 1974. Saw him again at the airport in Corpus Christi a couple years later. He was a genuine cowboy, a fine human being, and a gentleman to boot.
Ben Johnson was the best horseback rider ever. There were others but he was the best. Took off across the prairie at speed. No prepared roads. Absolutely amazing.
One of the finest co- stars ever. After John Wayne’s movies he was miss-cast in a few duds ,not his fault. Always enjoyed him and the roles he played. A for real cowboy and a real man,s man. Rest easy Mr Johnson.
He wasn't so much "an actor," as just a real good man. Pretty rare to find one in Hollywood, but back in Osage Co., OK, he was the guy that rode a horse better than anyone you'd seen, and made you smile when you ran into him. Why are there so few simple, humble, honest good men that we celebrate? Maybe we're afraid if we did, it would go to their head. Not with ole Son. Here's to him.
In the 50’s and 60’s I grew up on the prairie of Osage County, 30 miles from the county seat of Pawhuska (pronounced Paw as in dog’s paw; husk like a corn husk; and uh). Took in the Senior rodeo and roping many times, and each year had livestock at the county fair and Ben Sr. was a prominent name. Nobody around our parts called Ben Jr. anything but Son. Lots of people now come into Pawhuska because of Ree Drummond’s mercantile and her cooking show, but not enough take an hour or two to visit the museum. It’s well worth the time. I hate AI narration but got through this one just out of respect for the life story of Son.
from his early beginnings and mine to westerns, I always knew deep in my heart and soul that Ben was the "real" thing. . You knew he knew what he was doing with horses. the west. the real life of a cowboy. and ranching rodeo all of it, he was the quintessential cowboy. always love him as an actor, and as an honest down to earth man. RIP Ben. ECF
One of my all-time favorite actors. What I've long liked best about Ben Johnson is the fact that everything I've heard and read about the man points to someone who, above all else, was as decent a human being as one is likely to ever find. Thank you very much for this brief biographical sketch of Ben "Son" Johnson. Andy McKane, Maunaloa, Hawaii.
Great actor. It is a shame your computerized narrator ruined this story by incorrect pronouncing words and names. You can't beat the classics. Why try and ruin them?
I thought Ben Johnson more than deserved his Oscar for "The Last Picture Show." I admired his work and tbe character so much that, decades later, I registered a really good Collie pup as "Sam the Lion.'
I think Mr. Johnson would be proud of Kevin Costner, his movies he makes are exactly what you've you described is his wish demonstrating nothing but respect that comes from/with, & for it. Loved all his work, still enjoy watching his movies and other real westerns as if having never seen them before. Well done, thank you.
At San Juan island marina, John Wayne invited me on board his yacht, wild goose. He walked me aft on starboard walkway to aft stateroom. Through the stateroom door, I saw Ben Johnson , leaning on fancy bar, looking at me. Not thinking I've got John Wayne right next to me, I say, Ben Johnson my dad thinks you're the best horseman in all Hollywood! Everyone in room cheers! Ben Johnson then asked me, who I thought was best all time Hollywood horseman? Other than you? Room cheers again! Glenn Ford sat a saddle as well as anyone! Room cheers again, John Wayne puts his arm across my shoulder. Picks up his glass an raises with right hand. Your father is a smart man! Everyone toast to my dad!
He had a run in with John Ford Apparently Ford asked him how he would do the scene Johnson told him then Ford Said maybe you would like To do the rest of the movie Sarcasm was his annoying Trait!
@angloaust15753 I think the same thing happened with Kate Hepburn in the film "Mary of Scotland"... also a Ford film. He asked her if she would like to direct... and she must have answered wrong as HE left the set and SHE finished the film. Kinda funny to think about that.
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent still -motion photography pictures 📷. Enabling viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. Genuine cow boy actor/perhaps the best of Holly Wood land.😉
My father worked on the Chapman Bernard ranch and lived on the ranch for a couple of years when I was a toddler but I do have a few memories of it . Before that he worked for Bob and Fred Chapman on their Ranches in Ravia Ok. And Clarksville Tx.
Yeah AI keeps messing the narrative up, but why do they keep flashing back to John Wayne, this is supposed to be about Ben Johnson an extraordinary man
9:51 1965 Major Dundee. Ben Johnson As Sergeant Chishum Confederate Cavalry Prisoner of War Galvanized Yankee. "Were you talking to me Sergeant?" (Sergeant Gomez Union Cavalry) "You don t know it but you fixin to be tried. You and the rest of these Blue bellies."
You said it. AI stands for artificial incipidness. PS: Every time I see Him as Sgt. Tyree, in Fort Apache, escaping the Indians by leaping his horse across a cliff, it chokes me up. My God!, that man could ride.
You know what I really liked about Ben Johnson he was a real man and he was a decent man changing that script proves it we need more men like Ben Johnson real men not women that call themselves men and men that call themselves women that doesn't belong in our culture it is immoral God even says in his book it's an abomination. These people need to change their lifestyle men need to become real men need to become real women God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve
People are who they are. As long as they’re not harming anyone they should be allowed to be themselves. Hating merely because of disagreement and different beliefs is wrong. Sort of like the traitorous maga crowd. As for Ben Johnson, liked his acting and on screen personality very much indeed.
Ben Johnson was an outstanding actor and person, but your AI voice butchered so many names and places it was difficult to listen to. "Ben son Johnson Jr.?" Please, get the man's name right. And the words Osage and Pawhuska, too.
UA-cam has turned into a bunch of idiotic robots that we have to put up with listening to.. Benson,.. not Been son.. A Chinese immigrant right off the boat could do a better job
If you enjoyed this video, it would be a great help if you could hit the like button and subscribe to the channel. Thank you very much for your support!
Why did you leave out Ben's classic great early film, MIGHTY JOE YOUNG? Also Ben's hometown is called Paw-Husk-Ah Not Hooska!
I’m so happy.lo(_

Ben was so humble that one time he said " my claim to fame is I got to hold John Wayne's horse." ❤
Ben Johnson was a real man, with morals and scruples.....something that will always be in strong demand.
Ben has been and still is my favorite cowboy, actor, and hero.
Was a wonderful actor. Still love watching his movies. Don’t find actors like this anymore. 😇

He was one of the great one's on the big screen, wish there was more like him, now days,

To bad he isn't around now, he would make a great president. Love the guy.❤

He used to live in Prescott AZ. He would occasionally eat breakfast at Apple pan restaurant. Seemed to be a very friendly non pretentious guy!
Ben Johnson was not only the quintessential cowboy actor but a true paragon of decency.
I always noticed him and always liked him thank u!
I thought Ben Johnson more than deserved his Oscar for "The Last Picture Show." I admired his work and tbe character so much that, decades later, I registered a really good Collie pup as "Sam the Lion.'
This is the best video bio featuring Ben Johnson.
He was co-star in Mighty Joe Young. A John Wayne movie wasn't the same without Ben.
I think Mr. Johnson would be proud of Kevin Costner, his movies he makes are exactly what you've you described is his wish demonstrating nothing but respect that comes from/with, & for it. I enjoyed how human he was In Sugarland Express with Goldie
One of the finest cowboys of all time
A Great actor and a person I always wanted to watch in ANY MOVIE.. never saw him in a movie i didnt watch at least 2 times
Ben Johnson makes any movie he's in better. And it's Pa-Husk-A not Pa-Hoosk-A
At San Juan island marina, John Wayne invited me on board his yacht, wild goose. He walked me aft on starboard walkway to aft stateroom. Loved Ben in "Wolverines". Patrick Swayze & Charlie Sheen.
Why does his part in the series, The Monroes, not get mentioned? That's where I found him. I loved his part in it!
Boy what a great man. I have many fond memories of him. Too bad you screwed up the narration of this video by using AI. It wouldn't make him happy.
He had a run in with John Ford
Apparently Ford asked him how he would do the scene
Johnson told him then Ford
Said maybe you would like
To do the rest of the movie
Sarcasm was his annoying
Trait!

Why do most of the images not match what is being described?
He was 1 of my favorite movie actors in several JOHN FORD MOVIES
First time I saw Ben was with Terry Moore in Mighty Joe Young !
Beautiful story about this cowboy
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent still -motion photography pictures 📷. Enabling viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. Genuine cow boy actor/perhaps the best of Holly Wood land.😉

Everyone should go to Pawhuska Ok there is a little museum-nice!
My father as I ..... would feel the same as Johnson ..... profanity is not cool or appropriate .... it is regrettable ! Nothing more.
My favorite Beb Johnson film was Mighty Joe Young, remember that?
Yeah AI keeps messing the narrative up, but why do they keep flashing back to John Wayne, this is supposed to be about Ben Johnson an extraordinary man
You didn't talk about his role in "Mighty Joe Young".
But this video showed a still from "Mighty Joe Young" showing Johnson with actress Terry Moore, in error to illustrate Johnson "and his wife."
I'm not a bib fan of Hollywierd, But Ben Johnson is an exception. A fine man first that never let it change him.
KnifeMaker
Also, leave out the "Junior" part.
Every movie he appeared in, was better for it!
Cool guy!
great on HGWT as a bad guy
I always was of the opinion that …..rodeo beat a body up too much….but I guess I don’t know what I am talking about
9:51 1965 Major Dundee.
Hire a human to narrate.

kinda got off subject there...
@@HGWTPaladin then why do you criticize those who believe in "make America" great again? Even Paladin would disagree with you.
@@msfarm2
Because Paladin believed in honesty, integrity and the law.
@@HGWTPaladinso do those who believe in making America great!
I don’t like computer made voices

Heck of a rodeo cowboy!
Ben, Son, John Jr?????? at 31" mark????
Pa hus ka not Paw hoos ka
AI
What is wrong with this narration?
Unfortunately the modern world speaks very different from how I spoke. Sounds like a SNOB NOT A WESTERN AMERICAN
Horrible narration of a great character actor
"Benson Johnson" REALLY pathetic computer voice - mangles words in video after video.
These Limie narrators don't know how to read American. Have they nothing else to do?
One of the most boring narration I ever came across UA-cam.
Robot AI voice!… instant thumbs down. If you can’t be bothered to get a live human to narrate this don’t bother!……
