Awesome to officially meet you. As tricky as a time this is, it’s also an amazing time to contribute. Artists are asking better questions, testing new solutions, and attacking this their own ways. Thank you for what you do.
Krystle: Do you want to hear from Benn or Curtis? Me: Yes Thanks for keeping us updated. It seems like a class action would be a landmark case that would set a precent that would help out all artists. Something I would happily donate towards. Thanks for your work!!!
Great video! Both Benn Jordan and Curtiss King are among my favorites on this platform, but I'm more interested in hearing your conversation with Curtiss presently.
What you're doing is huge! I'm not sure if people understand how huge, because even though this is directed towards Tunecore, a case win here leaves the option open against any of these "distributors" that have been doing artists wrong. I gave you a shoutout on my music production channel because I'm trying to help spread the word. 🤘
Was with soundcloud repost and distrokid . Both deleted my catalogue. I have a big audience on Instagram. I get real streams boom deleted no bots . Got fans also like section. Spotify says I’m good. Wtf is going on.
8:23 I think not being able to have your music part of playlists, be shared through the share feature and having algorithms pushing your music to people it thinks may enjoy it, would be quite a loss
When you depend on these companies to feed you, you are also giving them the power & option to starve you. I chose an alternative route towards independence, giving up is not in my DNA.
I dont think thats a fair assesment of Curtis's stance. He took the stance where he's taken his shit down and now they have no power over him. Thats actually pretty brave when you think about the fact that this is part of how he's paying his rent and shit. Withdrawing labor, going on strike for instance, is a fundamental tool of how workers regain can control of their life, and lets be clear, musicians are workers. This is a job.
Their TOSsays that they can take the revenue, but it doesn´t say what will happen to the funds. It seems like they´re not able to pocket the money for themselves, which leaves them in a very difficult situation. I researched all the TOS iterations on the Wayback machine, and they have always been predatory. It wouldn´t surprise me if they have illegally funneled the money to their bottom line.
It is worth looking at the meteoric rise of the artist Ren for an example of someone doing it with no manager or record contract, but still managing to get a number 1 album. Last year he was just another independent hopeful, but his attitude with his music being reacted to helped to propel him into the limelight (that and his genius for song writing). Ren welcomes the attention from reactions and reviews. The infinite army of youtube reactions are his publicity engine.
Would a class action in the US be opened to non-us residents ? (which I guess would also depend upon TuneCore's general conditions, if they are the same in every country, especially EU as TuneCore's belongs to Believe which is a french company) Will definitely follow your updates, thanks a lot for sharing all this !
Both Curtis and Benn have great perspectives, would be cool to see them both. I wonder, in TC's giving the royalties to a charity scenario, who hypothetically would have been able to report that on their taxes, TC or your client? Haha...
IMO, which I understand means very little, when ethics are being considered, a class action lawsuit is the only way to stave off the poor ethics of the distributors, where Congress, when tasked to support artists, failed incredibly. I'm sure distributors, with all of our money, will develop alternatives to trapping artists and exploiting them if the class action suit gets judged against distributors, but, a class action suit could also re-open the doors to the House floor where Congress could stop being blinded by big business propaganda and manipulation. Your current client undeniably should get, and deserves all the moneys owed, but the music artist community is HUGE....MASSIVE! The laborers of this art need someone with reach and power to end the grotesque manipulation of talented people, where every one of us is required to pay a premium to companies, in order to get paid in return. Whatever changes that benefit artists, big or small, is a win for artists everywhere. Thanks for your contribution to the music industry Miss Krystle.
Question: From my previos question on the DistroKid exposed video. None of our original songs were taken down and iHeartRadio still has a Joe Parkhurst radio station.
I found it funny that just a week or two ago, Tunecore sent out an email to their artists talking about streamer fraud and how artists should protect themselves from it. As if they’re trying to produce evidence of themselves appearing to look out for the artists. The timing seems suspicious.
Better Call Krystle! 😉 I'm not in your geographic legislation area but I think it's time to do something against all the greedy crooks who live on the back of the artists. I'm FLH3 and I support this message.
Both artists have a different perspective on it. While Curtis took his music off, some people may not be familiar as to his thought process and/or something new may come to light and give people that lightbulb moment. I don’t know Ben, but I’m curious as to how he thinks about all of this. If both is not an option, I’m going to fight my bias and ask for Ben’s conversation… but I’d really like to hear both.
I’d like to know with direct to consumer downloads how are people listening is there an app where we can play songs because at the moment I save to files and that’s an awful way for both memory and ease of use ?
@@mrr5835 so many cars now don’t even have cd players but on my phone it’s rubbish because I can’t play one song after the other without having to physically click each song
As I mentioned on an earlier video; it is garbage like this that kept me out of "the industry". I would like to think I have some good music and the combined talent of the friends I worked with...all this legal garbage just chased us away. Independent releases just don't go anywhere anymore. The music industry we thought was finally tamed and defeated just figured out how to abuse artists in the digital realm as well. We are seeing the next popular thing over the plethora of voices and sounds that were starting to come out. It is homogenized again. If I do have an itch to make music again, I am just dumping it on UA-cam, promoting by word of mouth to friends or various social media places and I am not working with these labels/distributors/platforms. Yeah, I'll miss out on the abundance of monies, but it will remain my music and I will be in control of it.
Subscriber of Curtiss King, want to see the conversation with him. Subscribed to your channel and diggin' the content, the Ben Jordan video was a great conversation as well.
Curtiss King makes good production products and content, good speaking voice and online persona. I think that most of the streams or sales of his own personal music come from the producer community that are subscribed to his channel, and He is not very well known outside of that space. He could probably sell his own personal music to his UA-cam subs, the same ones who bought his soundpacks and make way more money then He ever could anywhere else.
Louis Rossmann shows that other companies are doing shady Terms and Conditions too. Roku updated their Terms Conditions and only had a accept option. If you don't accept the new terms and conditions it turns the roku into a brick if you don't accept.
We need a simplified transactional model for music consumption - NFTs are an angle that should be reconsidered, but that's not the answer - the answer is a simple "pay-to-play" model, where subscribers draw down on their own monthly account balance, with the platform getting 10% and all other monies being distributed to the artists - simple, non-gameable, and functional - its just not rocket science folks - gimme a dev team of 3 and 30 days, we change the world of music forever
In the meantime, are there any other DSPs that this isn’t happening with? I’m with TuneCore now, but all this stuff has me riddled with anxiety when I should be focused on creating. The one thing that TuneCore does that others don’t is collect the publishing revenue. I’d hate to give that up, but man this sucks.
Question: okay, 7 years ago(?) I released a SINGLE that i thought was an independent artist.... turned out to be a Steve Vai track that he allowed to be "played" Is that TuneCores reason for never paying me? "Faithless" is the Steve Vai cut all others on TuneCore are ours.
OMG 😮 eso me ha pasado 😮 Pensaba que yo era el del problema, hasta que use otra distribuidora y mis temas fueron lanzados. Lo triste? Que ellos no te devuelven tu dinero.
HI i just ran into you channel , i love your content ! QUESTION? WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON DISTRIBUTING FOR FREE ? TUNECORE , SOUND ON AND SOME OTHERS DSP ARE FREE BUT SOME TAKE A CUT.
This guy has damages. And they alleged in writing that it was b/c of unethical conduct. Isn't that liable? And if you sued for that, Isn't the burden upon them to demonstrate that he did, in fact, buy the bots? It also seems to me that his legitimate marketing expenses are irrelevant. Doing something good doesn't prove you didn't do something bad. Am I making sense?
Thanks Miss Krystle. Yes I do listen to Benn Jordan. Seems independent artists are always left to fend for themselves as best they can. I will be starting into this business with hopefully some songs published this year. I don't have a brand yet, but have registered with Sound Exchange, so far.

Benn Jordan, he has already taken on tuna-core and they backed down .
Both!! There's also Toofless on YT who outlined how to do Direct 2 Consumer distribution. For that matter, you should talk to Kanye...
Do both Curtiss and Ben in there own video each.
I'd like to see both but I'd love to see you and Benn talk shop. I first heard of him back in the day when he sued iTunes and won.
Definitely both 👍🏾👍🏾

D.....Y......I
I follow Benn. But, especially how they differ in approach, I'm actually curious to hear both.
Would love to hear you and Curtis chopping it up about this!
Thank you for this video. This happened to one of my tracks 2 weeks ago as well. Happy to participating in any legal action moving forward

8:23 I think not being able to have your music part of playlists, be shared through the share feature and having algorithms pushing your music to people it thinks may enjoy it, would be quite a loss
Benn Jordan please, king gave up and took his own music down, Benn stood his ground and tuna-core shit in their pants.

I already follow both creators and would listen to either or both conversations. FYI Weaver Beats also name-dropped you, although he was kinda snarky.
Weaves a jokey fungi, wouldn’t hurt a fly
Ben Jordan please.
Please give us both conversations. Both perspectives would be really eye opening.
Did you see the article where Warner music group expressed interest in buying Tunecore and what are your thoughts about it?
good and bad. won’t have third party companies like this stealing.

What’s crazy is u can go buy fake streams online for cheap and target any artist wtf.
can u do both? meaning can u sell you're albums on you're own website and stream ?
Yes. That’s the way to do it
2009 I use their distribution service.Never collected my royalties. Then a security breach came in my email? They had my albums as unknown artist
Thank you so much this is Gods work!! 🙏🏽

I would love to take my music off of streaming, but I'm not big enough to not have my music everywhere to be discovered by new fans.
I love the kind of challenges you guys have there. We're dealing with war here 😮🦸
No condescendence meant
Tunecores days are numbered 💯
(Unrelated): Hey Miss K, did you hear about the recent case ruling against the CTA as unconstitutional (only for one plaintiff though)?
Curtiss King makes good production products and content, good speaking voice and online persona.
