Ok ngl i feel like i have a theory for Child's Play.
I think BF arrived BEFORE the darkness took over.
Because, in the start of Child's Play, everyone seems happy, as if nothing seems wrong. But Gumball actually seems worried, like, WORRIED worried.
I think when his friends start turning into red pixels is when the darkness actually arrived, and when they are fully turned into red pixels, that means they are corrupted.
Then finally Gumball gets corrupted.

im pretty sure the red pixel thing is a visual glitch with the blackout and the vignette since that tends to happen a lot with rigged animations over vignettes on most gpus and cpus

I like to think BF arrived after darkness took over, after all, it wouldn't really make sense for him to be there before it even took place since he's the one trying to save cartoons by fighting the corrupted characters, and let's be honest here BF really is not the type of guy to be aware it would've been coming anyway (sure, it would eventually come since it's a cartoon).
What's happening in Child's Play is probably similar to Come Along with Me, both corrupted characters are trying to deceive BF into coming closer to kill him since BF can't be corrupted as he's not from a cartoon (which explains The Darkness goo or smth on Finn's sword not doing anything to him), let's compare:
Come Along With Me: Finn disguises as it's original self to trick BF into the woods and kill him there, however he fails to do so because the darkness clearly still gives hints of presence. His appearance is happy and inviting as supposed to trick BF into thinking it's just normal finn yay friendly no killing (he'd probably have fell for it considering BF's the dumbest thing to exist).
Child's Play: The Darkness disguises the entire scenario to it's original self to deceive BF into thinking it's just a normal place and that BF should feel comfortable before cutely being killed by a cat, apparently The Darkness gave Gumball a more appealing disguise (crying, scared) to make BF help him since Gumball was BF's main attention on the place (but BF knew stuff was wrong because it was obvious from the massive glitches that were happening) so it miserably failed again to later on just reveal itself and actually fight BF.
But this is just my view of the lore.
