Wait, this isn't an April Fools video
It was meant to go up tomorrow. I fucked up. :|
Hal 9000 malfunction?
I'm not sure about that. Although, to be fair I don't think Far Country was a bad book, just a poor fit with mainline battletech. A book with another unit arriving there and finding out what happened there afterwards could work.
@@mickbrown7793 About what?
@@mickbrown7793 Yeah but if the surviving castaways and bird-people manage to climb higher than early space flight in just 59 years, I'll have a BIG problem with the story premise.
Putting clan genes in the water and turning the birds into samurai, I love it
You had me at Samurai birds. ❤
If you like that concept, than check out Endless Space 2.
It is a space 4x strategy game and have a faction called Hissho.
They are space travelling Aztec Samurai Birds... I'm not joking.
Btw they are really good.
I love that game.
If you rewind you can see the exact moment Red’s will to live left his body. Happy April Fools all
The expressions. Ahahaha!😂
*Listens to two grown man talk about a Blood Spirit/Sentient bird society*
*Slowly dies inside*
*Looks at the calendar*
Oh, yea, now I get it)
I used to think Jason was an incredibly nice and generous man and I hoped he'd call me a friend. Now I realise he's an amazing genius and I am not worthy to even share this comments section with him.
The timing of the release of this video is - well - sus. Having said that - great interview - and can't wait to see more
God, guns, and Battletech. The only faction that anyone should be thinking of bring back is Comstar. But that's just because the lure was made with a the need for it. Clan sea fox could be a fun competitor.
I actually wouldn't mind a Tetatae sequel. Sapient Aliens in the setting is fine as long as they aren't technologically advanced or integrated into the bulk of the setting.
If the Tetatae integrated with humans to form a joined society, they would be as technologically advanced as the humans. If the Humans can manufacture mechs, the the Tetatae should be able to fully participate as members of the society. The Tetatae only remain stone-age if they aren't integrated.
"Farther Country"
Clan Blood Spirit shows back up, and blows up the Tetatae's moon. And everyone cheered.
Unironically, that would be incredible
I’m not going to say it’s well written but I liked that overarching idea. To be clear, I don’t want Battletech to become Star Trek, but I do like the idea that other intelligent life exists in BT. Just never so the warden philosophy hold intellectual water.
I like this story about Clan Blood Spirit better:
As we know, they gave their genetic legacies to the trusting hands of Clan Snow Raven, in exchange for the creation of the Arcadia Class Dropship.
(Technical Readout: 3067)
Decades later, in the IlClan era, the Snow Ravens are now rich enough to make use of them. Drawing inspiration from the Stone Lions and the "Jade Wolf episode", they create a new Clan out of their own and the Blood Spirit Genes: Clan Blood Raven!
As a fleet based Clan, like the Sea Foxes, it will travel the Sphere on board of its Mothership "The Magpie" (a Clan Snow Raven hand me down); always trying to secure lost treasures and relics.
I see what you did there, and I approve
To be honest, I have not read this book. I am in the camp of Battletech not having aliens, except for the clans. Just a question...If there was a sentient species in Battletech... would it not be a CRAB type creature??😄
At least we have the WoR series to look forward to.
With the release date, I can say you got me you absolute bastard! Well played. XD
This is the story we do not desrve and yet need in regards to the home world clans. If only the story arc for blake remnants is half as good as what is hinted
The bird aliens were Word of Blake drones all along.
WOB remnants vs Homeworld slapfight might be interesting. And would make some sense since the supposed purpose of the WOB mobilizing was to destroy the clans.
Open to the idea of extending the Far Country story line. Assuming this isn't just pulling our leg.
Lets us see what happened after the book to the old cast and offspring. More bird people, and we get see some Blood Spirits in the mix. And since it's all out by itself somewhere in super deep space it doesn't mess up the greater Battletech Universe.
Well till the year 4000AD when one of Alaric distant gene spawn on a deep space exploration mission decides Tetatae taste like chicken, and sets off the Clan/SL-Human/Tetatae War. 8)
Clan Star Adder is all! All is Clan Star Adder! Long Live Clan Star Adder!
So looking forward to this! Thank you Red. Thank you.
Happy Birthday, hope you will have a healthy and sucessful and relaxed year
Peter Rice was a great man ! We will miss him very much . Thank you
Sounds like a fantastic book. I’ll recommend it to people as a good BT intro👍
Thanks for the great vid, BigRed!😄
This is pretty funny
Hey, I'm not the one who greenlit it, but it is pretty funny :P
Now that Tetae/Blood Spirit/leftover DC people/merc storyline actually has potential in comparison to the pap that was the iLclan trial, Wolf Clan slobberfest and FedCom Civil War. If Clan Smoked Kitties can come back to life after being Stone's mysterious Deus Ex Machina and the Word of Blake didn't fully die out as per Ghosts of Obeedah, then Blood Spirit shouldn't be an issue.
I like it. Just one thing, though. What's Tetatae for "THEY ATTACKED MY HOME PLANET!"?
I've never read park country as I found it hard to get any novels where I live during that part of the time and the 90s very difficult to do. The game shop didn't sell novels, but I'm going to look online. And see if I can find a copy of that novel so I can get some Better understanding of it. And I would appreciate it if you would do a video about it so I could learn more because I plan on getting this novel as soon as I can. And restarting my membership as soon as I can.
smoke jag cap is fresh af
Happy April 1st :)
Battletech is a universe this guy needs to leave alone. DONT RUIN IT FOR THE REST OF US!!! I like battletech because it doesn't have this BS.
Hello Red.
I don't have a problem with a continuation of the Far Country storyline. Adding in a Clan and Clan Tech would help boost the moon's industry by leaps and bounds.
A 'Farther Country' sequel would be only a logical extension of that idea, and provide a vehicle whereby the consolidated forces would extend their reach back into Clan territories.
My own contribution to the rather eclectic mix would be to have that consolidated force discover the remnants of Clan Wolverine and incorporate them into the fold as well. Rather than have Clan Blood Spirit inflict the Clan model of civilization upon them, what occurs is that the merger of the decedents of DEST and the 'birbs' and Clan end up more like Clan influenced, federal government. Adding Wolverine's remains furthers that federalization, and adds more stability to the existing concord between factions. The result being a broader consensus of opinion and world view to the new government.
So a 4th book in the Far Country series would have the new 'Clan', or the Federal State, invading Clan space and taking worlds to convert to their ideals.
Just a few thoughts.
I actually want to read a Farther Country sequel. I know its a fools joke, but it wasn't a bad read to go outside the battletech box in Far Country. Put that world in a time - space shifted dimension to the Inner Sphere where mis-jump ships end up, and which actually has the aliens. That way you don't have to mess with the Inner Sphere dimension but create something new and interesting.
About 11:10 Red wanted to throw hands and leave lmao you can see it
Great discussion you two!!
Seeing Jason interviewed about this "huge news!", & with what we have seen from some source books/novels & how he sold it in another interview I wouldn't have been surprised this was happening. Plus a Far Country sequel is a great distraction from worrying about now seemingly petty shipping charges.
Great video! Looking forward to more videos.
If you want Samurai Chicken, check out the Hissho from Endless Space
I hope the birds learn to pilot Urbanmech LAMs.
I legitimately got kinda pissed, so if this is a fools day joke, call me defensive but you got me....
No Country for Space Tengu
God damn it, I was so fascinated right up until aliens were mentioned. Then I knew I had just wasted 9 minutes of my life haha. I hadn’t looked at the comments because I was painting minis. Ya got me
I'm fine with the Tetatae existing somewhere, I just don't think them or other sentient aliens being a major plot point would i.prove the setting. A few random novels or novellas I'm fine with though.
You would have been sold on the second book a lot easier if they were purple.
Having a book on the war of reaving is going to be great.
Not bad for a dedicated, 18 minute long shitpost.
It will be interesting to add non-human extraterrestrial intelligence.👍🏻
Quoth the Raven: NEVER MORE!
So the Tetatae join Clan Snow Raven?
@@BigRed40TECH Well. We now have a way to get rid of all the Warships that the Snow Ravens have.
They go on a Tetatae extermination mission, but only manage to hide the position of the Inner Sphere from Bird Invasion before being destroyed.
As April Fool's gags go, this was way better than most of the lazy crap you always see around this time of year.
No LAMs, only alien bird people! Happy April 1st!
When J Falcons gonna learn about it, they ll pull their feathers out...
Personally I would have dropped the bird people, and gone with some types of human-animal hybrid cooked up by the scientist caste instead. It make more sense that way, after all they made horse's that are carnivorous so making man-beasts shouldn't be that hard. Also, it would explain how they would have BattleTech-level tech as well.
Listen.
What if the DEST team, get to *know* the bird people, and then we get the hybrids?
@@BigRed40TECH the tetatae got ahold of your shirtless Alaric art and were like, "hot damn, let's try this."
I was inreasingly getting pissed off as the video went on..... until I saw the date.
Ugh.
I cant believe I keep faĺling for April fools jokes. Goes to show how gulable I am
I really appreciate how our brave host was not afraid to say that this terrible idea will ruin battletech.
Thankfully, it was salvaged by Bird-Samurai.
I think its gonna be fine, I liked Far Country, this sounds like a fun little detour down a side road of the Battletech lore. I thought he was incredibly rude to the author.
@@sharker2003 (Look at the upload date)
your warhammer iic video, while good was really a 'snow raven and star adder where are they now?'' the motion picture
I think the Star Adders were more front and centre to be fair :P
And then we learn that the Tetatae are descended from emus
Nah, they're just normal Emus.
I think this would be a great what if non-canon exploration of possibilities in the battletech U.
Let me guess: the Tetatae attack the Star Adder world of Bodega Bay.
Almost had me, but I knew that it wasn't real because Jason didn't mention having a sex scene in the book.
At what point do Elder Gods show up?
This should totally be done and just retcon the whole thing into a popular novel series within the inner sphere something like what they did to the battletech cartoon.
It should be canonized! That's what should be done. As a full length novel series!
@@BigRed40TECH SAMURAI BIRD ARMY IT IS!!!!!
I just listened to the newest wolf net episode. This is real. Not April fools. Why did this get green lit?
Truthfully? April Fools aside, the Far Country 2 idea would actually work for me. There are lots of other odd/interesting alien species in Battletech and they fit fine since they don't actually influence the flow of the setting overall i.e. they're not an actual faction. The Tetatae as a cultural foil for the clans could be interesting as a way of rejuvenating the blood spirits, their discovery of a race of un-corrupted innocents when they themselves, born into a Clan society obsessed with fixing a broken human race and that's shown the Blood Spirits nothing but corruption and violence might actually give them a vitally needed spiritual reference point they need in this most dire of times. Though of course under no circumstances should we be seeing Tetatae piloting mechs, aerospace or whatever.
That being said, the Far Country 3 idea of the blood spirits rebuilding there into a force big enough to singly-handedly challenge the Homeworld clans is of course just plain silliness. Buuuuut, if the fleeing Blood Spirits are bringing some of their tech base with them and are adding it to a productive society created by the DEST/old Draconis/Tetatae alliance then I could see them over the decades getting back up to a full Galaxy (maybe also with the help of some dark caste raids on the clan homeworlds and some secret trade with the Scorpions). Then we could see a war between the Scorpion Empire and the Homeworld clans break out and when the Star Adders are on the brink of victory they suddenly receive news a Bllod Spirit Galaxy has jumped into their space and backstabbed them with a series of raids and an invasion of York. This sudden weakening and division of the Star Adders could then give the Coyotes and/or the Stone Lions the opportunity to switch sides and break the "Snake alliances" grip on power.
And of course THEN a new clan council of the Scorpions,Coyotes, Stone Lions, Blood Spirits, Cloud Cobras and Star Adders could decide to send a force to the Inner Sphere to look into this whole "The Wolves are claiming to be the IlClan" thing...
We're doing it live - A Bill O Reilly fan eh ? 😆
You had me until "Farther County "!
"far country 2" lol
as certain Frog says, its not a real war crime until Plasma Cannons are involved.
And happy April Fools day to you too
NGL, that sounds so completely bonkers that I'd probably read it.
lol I bought Far Country off of EBay haven’t read it yet
An army of crow aliens invading clan space piloting clan tier bird themed mechs.
An 80 ton raven
No Pardoe, no Battletech. Until this injustice is rectified, I'll not give Catalyst a cent.
Given that relationship is annihilated, you're just not going to participate with new product.
Business relationships don't tend to mend so easily once broken. Trust on the part of both parties is just unlikely to ever heal to an extent where you'd see a return. Blaine didn't even participate in the creators portion of the Battletech Universe special edition, which is very much a shame.
No fools, I adore samurai-Blood-Spirit idea. The only thing that needs to be changed is turning aliens into gene-modified Star League colonists. That would be perfect.
NO.
Only Samurai Birbs!
@@BigRed40TECH, OK, IT IS WHAT IT IS. :D
I feel for it lol
Alien Bird people might have better insight into helping the Blood Spirits design better LAMs, maybe that’s how they overthrow the Star Adders
Urbielam cannon explanation.
@@Bhaalspawn exactly maybe even renewed interest in the Scorpion LAM.
@@fracturedlotus2792 Birbs have to eat something, why not scorpions?
NO Aliens!!!!! Battletech is a human space warfare odyssey. Introducing aliens into this universe will make it generic and cliche every other scifi IP
But what if those aliens were birds?
@@BigRed40TECHor what is all birds are aliens?
Already introduced.
The first book has been around for decades.
BattleTech have always been a particular Sci-Fi setting for not exploring any of the usual subjects elsewhere on aliens, human brain/gene potential and sentient robots.
After all it is a wargame for a futuristic setting with mostly modern/industrial age politics and philosophies.
Then add to the mix basic human nature, some cultural references and intrigues.
While I believe there could be some room for those subjects to be explored to a certain extent, those subjects still need to be low-key and on the fringe of the in-universe.
Inevitably in time, creators would like to bring those in - but should they become more prevalent and possibly the next big push for the future of the franchise ?
Not too sure about this, but clearly the potential for deus ex machina or plot armor to kill the original setting is too great.
The Horror, The Horror.....
*Cue Fry face* Not sure if being trolled...
Whelp, Battletech is finished. It was a good run.
I can be harsh too. It sounds like shit. Thank god it is a 1st april joke.
The society did nothing wrong
This has to be an April fools joke
???
Oh right....Aprils Fools lol
I get the point of the video but hear me out. Do FC2 more or less as purposed but for FC3 set in several thousand years later and our multi"ethnic" group comes back into the Clan Home worlds and find nothing. Everything is in ruins. Human remains but not as much as you would think. Repeat in the Inner Sphere. Deadworld after Deadworld. Real existential crisis space horror stuff.
You can't spell Mechwarrior without war crime. All that is left is hor.
...Clans are becoming boring...
Crush the Wolf Empire by Purple Bird and let a new Faction come out of the Periphery...
---and really Big-Red...Birds that are Samurai....what did you drink and were do i get it 🤣🤣🤣
None of this is worse then the actual lore after 3049.
Lol
