    Yes totally agree! Walking away from toxic relationships was the single most important thing I could've done for my perimenopause symptoms. Unfortunately, I had to walk away from both parents and both siblings, but the wave of relief that overcame me when I did was undescribable. 🙏

    FOODS TO AVOID: CHICKEN! I am thankful for your channel. I feel that I am not alone. It has helped me tremendously. I do food prep almost every weekend and include a lot of the foods and supplements in my diet in this video. However, despite eating a clean diet and exercising, I was suffering from debilitating hot flashes! For the past two years, I was averaging maybe 2 hours of sleep a night. There a lot of foods that we should include in our diet, but are many foods in the American diet we should avoid. I stopped eating chicken about a month ago and my hot flashes went from severe to mild to almost zero! Chicken and eggs have added hormones, steroids, and antibiotics. This was throwing my hormones out of wack! Sugar substitutes and some artificial colorings can be a factor as well. Now, I'm trying vegan dishes and avoiding chicken altogether. I may try organic chicken or plant based chicken because I do miss eating chicken, but dont miss the severe hot flashes! I hope this helps someone else who may be suffering with this same issue. I finally feel like myself again.

    Hello ladies, I turned 50 this year and I know that for me exercise was hard to get a good routine, I can not jump or do some of the things that a routine had it. For anyone struggling with this I recommend Glow with Joe. She is here on UA-cam and has 10, 30, and 60min workouts of all levels (a lot with no jumping). It has really helped me to keep moving and not feel like I have to kill myself doing it. I also want to say thank you to everyone here, watching these videos and reading the comments help me know I am not alone or weird! Ha!

    My advice for Emotional and physical pain which unfortunately also has been a big part of my life is to get a routine to get outside for morning walks. Just walk slow with a walking stick if you have no energy. ( or fast if you feel energetic/happy/angry ) just walk according to your mood. The blue light at dawn enters our eyes and balances our hormones. Yes It is a cliché but I need to repeat; Nature is our real powerful helper. And any mood is Okay. We are not alone - any of us - even if we feel overwhelmed with all our “pains” ❤

    Your channel is the first place I've heard about taking collagen. When I've brought up peri issues to medical professionals, they say we can deal with it when my periods stop or that I could go on anti-depressants. That could be 2-5 years based on how things are going, and I feel like that's wasted time, especially with a family history of osteoporosis. No one seems to want to address a basic human process.

    Having a hobby or two helps me...i love my crochet and scrapbooking and my husband bought me a huge custom paint by numbers of our darling great Dane. I started it last week when I was feeling awful and was having crying spells and a horrible 10 day period. Just getting my mind on that and really focusing on that even just for 15 mins helped me. Also walking or lifting weights even if I'm tired or some yoga. Also a cup of tea especially a calming blend or chamomile..just sit somewhere quiet and enjoy it.

    I had/have all the symptoms you mention. I started peri in earnest at around 46. I feel like I didn't sleep for 5+ years! I'm 61 now. When I started getting the incontinence (both stress type and urgency type) I gave up gluten and the stress type went away. The urgency type I just started a habit of going to the bathroom every time I got up. That instead of going to do something and finding I needed to go to the bathroom and had to rush to get there.
    Now I'm dealing with pain all over from my long term Hypermobility issues deconditioning from the pandemic, arthritis, bone spurs and old injuries. I tried to go the route of asking for testing and diagnosis but what I got was a label that means crazy lady. After a while it seemed to me that the dysfunctional relationship with the hospital made me feel worse than my pain.
    Now I stick to integrative medicine, mindfulness classes and acupuncture. These things work very well indeed. We all need to make sure to support our bodies nutritionally, and with sunshine and with supplements as well. My list of supplements is ever evolving. Sometimes focusing on hormone balance and liver or minerals or a protocol for the gut microbiome. I feel that you don't have to keep taking something everyday forever. Right now I'm working on Gut health and eye health. The only supplements I always take are vit A, D, Zinc, food based vitamin C and magnesium glycinate. I'm glad I'm through peri but there is still more to deal with in menopause like the sex thing which I'm working on.

    Some of the best advice I’ve ever heard is on these videos. They are really great and very relatable.
    Agree about the supplements, and take them regularly. I don’t take any herbal remedies, and didn’t take HRT, only the pessary for VA.
    I hadn’t realised the extent of the effects of collagen. I will look at taking a supplement for that.
    I struggle with severe digestive issues, it’s a life long thing which has been much worse as I get older, I think the oestrogen loss has affected it also. I’m a bit underweight as a result and need to watch for osteoporosis

      I was also having sleep issues and extreme fatigue and thought it was a menopause symptom but when I went to the clinic they did blood tests and it turns out I was DEFICIENT (not just low) in Vitamin D. Typical levels (I'm told) are 30-50 and mine was at 11.7. I've been taking Vitamin D3 (and also Iron because my ferritin was low) for the last three months and I'm back to my early morning routine, feeling rested instead of waking up after eight hours of sleep and feeling like I needed eight more. If you haven't gone in for blood tests, I would recommend it to rule out deficiencies in vitamins and/or minerals.

    Resistance exercise is good for the spine. And the simplest way to get it is to sleep on a hard surface. I started sleeping on the floor June 2022 with only a topsheet between me and the carpet and underpadding, plus a very thin pillow for when I roll onto my side, plus a quilt/blanket for cover. It took a good, solid YEAR for me to forget what it's like to sleep on a soft, squishy mattress. In the beginning, it is painful and uncomfortable, especially to the lower back. And the floor feels like it's pushing against you with all the weight of the earth. It's even a struggle in the morning to get up off the floor. But after a year, it's part of my natural life! The floor is comfy and I get up easily in the morning and store everything in a basket. At night, it takes maybe two minutes to layout my bedding on the floor. Oddly, there's power in knowing I can sleep on the floor and don't "need" a mattress!
    Why I started sleeping on the floor is, in my early 50s, I noticed I was a getting a bit of a "dowager's hump" right below the base of my neck. Sleeping on a soft, squishy mattress with a thick pillow under our heads is very bad for posture. Since I began sleeping on the floor, my posture has improved and my little "dowager's hump" is less noticeable.

      I use Trim and Biocell Skin. They are hydrolyzed type 2 collagens from chicken sternal cartilage(much closer to the body’s natural collagen) and contain hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate(which mirrors human collagen). It also has over a 90% absorption rate. I noticed improvements in my pain, dryness and itching within a few weeks. So happy I switched from the powders to this liquid collagen. I have an affiliate link with a discount attached because I truly believe this product can help others as well. I’ll leave it for you so you can read up on it if you like.

    The diet is the most important for my body. Never, ever eat fried food in meno/post. I never eat fried food but made that mistake 1 day last week because I thought I would get away with it once, I wanted a piece of fried fish so bad, with tartar sauce…really bad idea and my stomach is still a mess from it a week later. Our digestion slows down in meno and fried in grease food makes it slow down more. Def kicking myself in the butt for that one and will never attempt anything deep fried again, for the rest of my life lol.

    • @KariAnneWright
      @KariAnneWright 4 місяці тому

      The best collagens I’ve ever taken are the ones I use now. They are type 2 hydrolyzed liquid collagens sourced from chicken sternal cartilage which contains a natural matrix of collagen, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate(closest to human collagen) and they’re 90% bioavailable. I take an anti aging collagen(Biocell) and a fat burning collagen(Trim). I’ll leave you the affiliate link in case you’re interested in checking them out. Https://modere.com/3485745

    I do wish the family doctors would be taught all this, at 48 I started with loosing balance and my body draining while out for a walk or just shopping at Walmart. I felt my knees giving out of me, the next was hair loss by the handful, then blurry eye site and foggy brain and migraines started, pain in elbows shoulders to follow. I was told by doctor I was way too young to start going through menopause, no discussion on peri-menopause. I proposed I might have adrenal fatigue I was asked to leave his office, no tests, but I was excused. Work live stresses took over and I had a nervous breakdown having to leave work. Still no mention of peri menopause, I had lost 50 lbs in the year prior to 50 felt great about myself when I had a gallbladder attack that was removed, diagnosed with depression (meds made me gain back the 50 lbs), also diagnosed with fibromyalgia osteoarthritis psoriatic arthritis put on meds and disability, hormones still never addressed, then started the hot flashes, still discounted, something strange happened then I was told to do cardio for the weight gain. I started indoor cycling- loved it until my coach said for me to stop as my face was half red and the other half normal, the one half was hot to the touch, this happened twice in a row second time I noticed it in the mirror and sat on the floor next to bike, I could have passed out, osteoarthritis doctor said no more cardio, a referral to neurologist was made (10 years later still waiting, great medical system in Canada).
    The only cardio I do now is walk 3-4 kilometers of walking per day.
    All this resulting 5 years ago I had a hernia attack resulting in emergency surgery while on vacation, did not heal due to anti-depressants, stopped them immediately as per doctor instruction. And 3 years ago I had a heart attack as stresses in new home purchase, flooding in basement and remediation, car stolen all within 1 months threw my stress levels over the edge. Stent surgery done by emergency cardio doctor.
    Life ? No functional medical assistance? Yes.
    I thank you Kari for this page, it answers my questions on things I’ve been concerned about for over 10 years. I wasn’t loosing my mind.

    I know everyone is different, but with all your experience in listening to many, many women, I'd like to ask you this: I've been suffering with perimenopause for almost a decade. I've reached a point this year where I've been skipping periods. Do you know how long this phase lasts? Am I close to my last period?

    • @KariAnneWright
      @KariAnneWright 9 місяців тому +2

      Often the longer you go between periods the closer to menopause you are. Also many women, myself included have an extended period in late perimenopause. I had a month long period, then a normal period then nothing for 16 months. I then had a post menopausal bleed and I had to start the 12 month clock over.😮‍💨 I am now 2 years post menopause.
