I have already looked forward to new sets more about Day9's card reviews than the actual gameplay of the set. Now I get to see him do rerolls whenever anybody disagrees with him. This is my favorite content on UA-cam I swear!
Especially since his concerns can be avoided. If you realy don't want them to draw new cards, then you don't need to exile any copies they have in their hand. That been said, its not as if it gives them proper carddraw, its better to see it as a forced looting, where you decide what they "discard". Might still not be good enough to see mainboard though, and negate might be better in several matchups. Also, he didn't mentioning Lost Legacy among the cards he didn't like, so lets have him play that instead.

Test of Talents seems pretty good though? They only draw based on what's in their hand so the copy on the stack, library or graveyard are "free". You throw this at one of their main removal tools and you never have to deal with it again. Also It gives you information since you can see their entire hand and library so you can get an idea of any immediate threats you will need to prepare for.
Yeah but why run such a limited counter instead of just running mana leak or counterspell which are going to be good basically 100% of the time. They cast an artifact or enchant or whatever and you're just sitting there, like a doofus, looking at Test of Talents in your hand and wishing you listened to Day9.
I think the spells that copy effects are actually being underevaluated. Magecraft triggers once when you cast the spell, and then triggers again for each copy effect on that spell. So unlike prowess, a spell that copies will actually trigger magecraft multiple times. And on those storm cards, even getting 2 or 3 triggers on many of them is a pretty good rate.
Test of talents... You know you can not remove the card from the hand to prevent the card advantage, so it's still a good counter spell. Counter an instant or sorcery and look at opponent's deck and hand for 2 seems like a pretty good effect

One thing you seem to have missed with show of confidence is all of those copies trigger magecraft as well. Magecraft can get out of hand pretty quickly with copying triggering it as well. Magecraft as a mechanic will probably have a great impact on historic.

on Standard yeah, i agree Lumimancer is a bit clunky, but there are a ton of cheap orzhov things so it might work. in Historic and beyond though.... absolute staple, it's gonna be a 4of no matter what in any deck that wants it, just like Mayhem Devil and Nissa. It's a Turn2 Kill in Modern!
Ever since they opened up the game to mobile... It's been running terribly and we have a new group of players who don't have any sense of game-tact... I've had several games with mobile users where they just let the match timeout instead of conceding or continuing to play. It's also insane how slow the game becomes when you're playing a mobile user. And I don't mean slow as in some is being patient and weighing their options... I mean slow as in it takes them forever just to get cards on the field and takes even longer for simple tasks on the stack to trigger. It's bad... Hopefully that's what they are fixing and that's why they cancelled the streamer pre-release. If that isn't it... Then it's a huge mistake to just stop doing it. Being able to QA while watching streamers figure out how the cards work is a great way to educate baseline MTGA players and also let higher level players work out what decks might become the meta, going forward. And, in Sean's case... It's awesome watching him try to find the jank decks that I will most certainly spend the most time playing and having fun with. WoTC needs to start valuing their collective product and audience more efficiently. It's taken a down turn over the past couple months. Just my opinion, of course. To each their own.
Would Mavinda work with cards that target both your creatures and there's, for instance closing statements (destroy target creature/plainswalker. Put a +1/+1 counter on creature you control)?
Detention Vortex is going to see a decent amount of play. The best part is that because they can only destroy it at sorcery speed, you can bounce or blink the aura in response.
Don't forget that it says "nonland PERMANENT," instead of just a creature, so you can disable problematic artifacts, enchantments, mana dorks (it doesn't exclude mana abilities), etc.
Since it only counts cards that were exiled from your hand this way, I think it is rare that there would be 4 of the same card you just countered in your hand. Unless the draw is coming from some other source I'm not thinking of.

I drafted clackbridge troll 3 times in a row and went full 7 wins each run. That card is an S bomb for me

Instant or Sorcery only is really what hurts it. Most of the time you'd just want a mana leak or an actual Counterspell.

Test of Talents is "Counter target instant or Sorcery, look at their hand and deck". Don´t take anything out, they don´t draw. It's nifty!
Put it in the sideboard and pull it out for Ultimatum decks.
I feel like it's very good at doing something that will almost never be necessary. 1% of the time-Plasma 99% of the time-waste of space.
Fine for sideboard. In the main you'd rather have actual counters that are good like Mana Leak or Counterspell.
