I think it was in 1986. My friend said to me "Jimmy Cliff is going to be in concert at the New Haven Coliseum in August". So I went down to the box office and asked for two tickets to Jimmy Cliff. The ticket agent said "Jimmy Cliff isn't going to be here..." I said yes, on August 16th. So he looked further and said "Oh, Jimmy Cliff is opening for Stevie Winwood!" So of course I said "Wow, gimme two of THOSE!" When the day of the concert came around, there was a strike at the NH Coliseum, and Winwood refused to cross the picket line. So they rescheduled the concert for November. When the concert came around Jimmy Cliff was no longer touring with Stevie Winwood. The box office said I could get my money back but we chose to see Winwood of course. It was a fantastic show with an outstanding Jamaican band backing him. I would guess that it would have been the same band that would have backed Jimmy Cliff as well. Great night, Stevie was at his best. But I've never gotten to see Jimmy Cliff, unfortunately.
He's got some of the lyrics wrong...it shouldn't be "They think they've got me on the run" but " they think they've got the battle won." Jimmy don't you know the lyrics? :)
A dexterous and accomplished wordsmith like Jimmy cliff can toss and turn his jyrics anyway he wants and they will still make perfect sense. How dare you question the master of lyrics?
@@cconteh What's happened to this country? People today don't know tongue-cheek? Cliff used different lyrics in the movie from the record version so of course he may change them in concert. But responders online only seem to want to get angry.
