As for the reporting, this is just so much empty theater and lip service. I find it to be an insult to the public intelligence.
As a brakeman for the former Southern Pacific, I can say crossings mean nothing to drivers when a train is coming. I was on the lead engine when we hit a tractor trailer rig at Long Point Road and the Hempstead Highway in Houston back in the late 1960's. We were doing 30 mph. One hundred cars, caboose, and four engines. We hit the truck and it still took the train a hundred yards to stop. Damage to the engine. Bent hand rail. Damage to the truck. Totaled. The driver survived and sued. SP paid even though he was at fault.
Having grown up in Odessa and read all the comments below I am so glad I no longer live on the western half of this state you people need to learn how to read get an education and develop some sort of sense of self that way you understand others aren't responsible for every little wrong doing in the universe

Part of the job in moving an oversized loads is knowing potential hazards and trouble spots and how to negotiate them or avoid them ! Who’s the idiots running that operation ?
I cannot work out how the truck driver could work out that his vehicle was not going to clear the rail tracks due to the camber of the road. He has to be inexperienced in truck driving. Here in Australia our trucks have higher clearance, perhaps in America you need to redesign your trailers, come to Australia and have a look hey ?could save alot of money and lives here.
That trailer was multi axle and has lifting mechanisms. This shouldn't have happened at all! It's infuriating the level of incompetence of everyone involved: the truck driver, pilot drivers and the police...🤦♂️
If you’re a truck driver….use your head and be cautious. These trains can’t just STOP! GET OFF THE TRACKS! Prayers to the engineers & Conductors family. My husband is an engineer the things people do on or near tracks is just stupid. Stay off, get out of the way and call the number that is posted on a BLUE SIGN AT ALL RAIL CROSSINGS. They get into contact with the engineer to let them know of an issue at that particular crossing. Call the number on the sign FIRST then 911.
Train was going eastbound, had just come out of a slight curve about 2,500’ from the crossing. That much train going that track speed had no chance to stop. Crew had less than 30 seconds from the time they saw the blockage. Unbelievable not one MF’er called the railroad during the 45 minutes the load was stuck.
Many many decades of these kind of incidents The feds should have mandated a long time ago that the railroads be called anytime a load like this is crossing their right of way One simple call could have save 10s of millions in damage and delays and many lives
There is no excuse for these kinds of collusions! This was an oversized load. The route would have been preplanned. This crossing should have been avoided or a strategy developed to deal with it! Once the problem occurred you need to call the railroad. There was a sign with the 800 number to call at the crossing. The railroad has dispatchers that are in constant contact with each train crew. The train could easily have been slowed or stopped until the truck was removed from the track crossing. The additional fact that police were present and failed to contact the railroad only increased the level of incompetence.
Incompotence on the whole city for not reporting the stuck truck. The whole modern day "News First, Not Necessarily Truth," is so sickening eith their lackadaisical, technically incorrect reporting is as sickening. The freaking reporter is calling railroad freight cars, "Carts." Idiots!
News flash with poor organization for the narrative from the man being interview and no camera footage to see the impact of the building . No mention of the real fault, by obvious selective choice . We have seen the footage of the trucking company's mistake . This will be on a high lite reel when drivers make bad decisions when entering and exiting over railroad right of way tracks.
News stations anymore simply don't report the news. We are tired of being given just the bare facts but nothing pertaining to cause effect and consequence. That truck was huge and it had to have had people whose dedicated job was to clear the way for that truck and to see that all traffic was safe. That includes railroad traffic. What we want to know is why was that truck blocking the tracks? ? Was it engine failure? If the truck were having engine problems why was it allowed to cross the track in the first place? What is the name of the company who was hired to pilot that truck safely from beginning to end of journey? Why did they not contact the railroad to let them know that they would be crossing at what time and to let the local law enforcement know that they would need intervention for traffic of all sorts? Who will be held ultimately responsible and what are the names of the people who failed miserably in their job?
They need to put a hydraulic lift on the trailer so when you cross the railroad track the trailer could lift up and go over the tracks lift up the whole trailer
The speed of the train had nothing to do with the accident. It was the fault of the truck driver, his escorts, and the police. The truck was stuck on the cross for 45 minutes and nobody there called the railroad to warn them of the situation. At 2:11 in the video you can see the blue sign on the crossing gate with the 800 number to call the railroad dispatcher, including information as to where the crossing is located.
This is hilarious 😂 How is it that all these idiots ended in the same place and just chilled while hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage occurred along with getting a couple people killed. 👻
@@deet4895 It was parked, there was no mud or traffic jam to get "Stuck" in. And please don't try the B.S. line,,, the trailer bottomed out on the tracks. No driver is fool enough to sit there and not call the track blockage in if that is the case.
@@DraggonCanoe You probably can't even drive a stick shift car let alone a truck, there don't need to be any mud or snow for a truck to get stuck if the trailer bottoms out, a load like that is most likely over a hundred thousands pounds that is pushing down directly on the road and the tracks, the tractor wouldn't have enough grip or power to pull it self off the tracks in a situation like that. Now if claims made by people are to be believed that the truck was stuck on the tracks for an hour, then someone on the crew should have called the authorities.
Everybody keeps saying, that nobody called any phone numbers? How do we really know this and it's not being covered up by the police? Maybe the Engineer knew it and kept going anyway. As for the reporting, this is just so much empty theater and lip service. I find it to be an insult to the public intelligence.
"City of Commerce" building. Lousy reporting.
A full hour??... WTF?
As a brakeman for the former Southern Pacific, I can say crossings mean nothing to drivers when a train is coming. I was on the lead engine when we hit a tractor trailer rig at Long Point Road and the Hempstead Highway in Houston back in the late 1960's. We were doing 30 mph. One hundred cars, caboose, and four engines. We hit the truck and it still took the train a hundred yards to stop. Damage to the engine. Bent hand rail. Damage to the truck. Totaled. The driver survived and sued. SP paid even though he was at fault.
Them good boys don't make mistakes, they perfect at everything they do.
Incompetent trucking company. They need to have their DOT licence revoked
Having grown up in Odessa and read all the comments below I am so glad I no longer live on the western half of this state you people need to learn how to read get an education and develop some sort of sense of self that way you understand others aren't responsible for every little wrong doing in the universe
They keep calling it a derailment. It's actually a grade collision because of an incompetent truck driver. How about reporting that?
He probably didn't know what those lights, bells and horns meant. He's only been driving a truck in the oilfield for twenty years...
Still learning. Probably still learning the language. Alto, pelegrossa, ay caramba.
Kinda messed up, how the motorcycle cop is sitting on his bike, WATCHING this all unfold, and not running to the truck driver, to make sure he is ok.
The driver was the one out walking around... he's fine... the engineer and conductor not so much.
Condolences to the family members friends and colleagues of these precious victims. Love hugs kisses and prayers in the name of Jesus Christ...amen ❤
There’s a little blue sign 🪧 on the crossing gate or sign post call that number first
If you’re a truck driver….use your head and be cautious.
Texas DOT needs to build A By -Pass for US 285 and a bridge over the railroad tracks in Pecos
You are right you can see marks on the road not first time someone got on high center.
Sue sue sue....close that trucking company. Shut it down! The driver and by proxy, the company, killed 2 people. SUE
Its an oversized load. Thats regulated by the state, the state is responsible for the route that is taken. But trusting the state, is their fault
@@Thatguyboogerbush-gp9db don't talk crap , truck driver totally responsible
No information about the truck crew. Why did they get stuck on the crossing, or if they warn the railroad of the danger?
WHY was this Truck STUCK on the tracks?????????????? And for HOW LONG??????? This is Ridiculous!
low ground clearance truck . It was stuck for 45 minutes and NOBODY there called the railroad.
@stuartaaron613 like I said Ridiculous! Two people died.
I bet the RR crew didnt think they'd die as they saw the truck up ahead.
Many many decades of these kind of incidents
The feds should have mandated a long time ago that the railroads be called anytime a load like this is crossing their right of way
One simple call could have save 10s of millions in damage and delays and many lives
What no crossing guards no red lights no warning system ?
Reporters are so happy about two people dead. Sick
Have the truck crew been arrested? They were horrible!
What trucking company was it?
It’s like they didn’t even clear the bodies out of the engine yet and they’ve already got track in place ready to be replaced
Never should have happened. So sad...
Reporters need to learn how to change their tone a bit. They are just too happy.
No wonder the railroad companies want to close all the dang ❌ crossings .😮
Bummer!
A year from now, the official statement will be: We can't comment on the cause, as this is still an active investigation.
News flash with poor organization for the narrative from the man being interview and no camera footage to see the impact of the building . No mention of the real fault, by obvious selective choice . We have seen the footage of the trucking company's
mistake . This will be on a high lite reel when drivers make bad decisions when entering and exiting over railroad right of way tracks.
This is happening way too often
Didn't see the train
People don't realize that one minute of theitimr save their own life or someone elses.
Shame on the news report not report any facts, arrest the truck driver.
city error the city building new that the train was coming..They could stop this tragedy
Such horrible news for families right before Christmas God be with the families of these 2 tragedys 😢
A Santa hat? It's not a holly, jolly occassion...
Shud up
@@Texas_Holdin Aggression issues? You may want to see a doctor about that...
Why was the train traveling that fast through the middle of town.
@DwightGriffin-f9w safety first
The speed of the train had nothing to do with the accident.
I hope you meant "horrible" instead of "hilarious."
pay-cuss? That's a strange way to pronounce it.
I better see criminal charges and jail time for tgose responsible for this along with a pernament CDL loss by the driver .
Unacceptable
First railroad crossing offense only gets you a 60 day suspension. You have to screw up at least three times for a revocation !
They knoew and didnt do nothing, a common texan thing
Train Train take me out of this town
Qué imprudente
DEI reporting. Calling railroad cars " carts" is just the beginning.
smell's like a fish story worst video quality ever
This is what terrorism looks like. No reason to park on the track other than to derail the train. The truck driver needs to be charged as a terrorist.
The truck "wasn't parked on the tracks" it was stuck on the tracks, it couldn't move, that's a big difference.
Lowboys get stuck on the tracks quite frequently, just do a google search.
How do we know, that the train driver, missed a signal and kept going? And don't blame the truck driver. He was following orders, and following the Escort company.
Shows just how little American cops actually think..
Trains transporting hazardous materials absolutely should not be going that damn fast through towns!!!!!! The speed of that train was a major factor in the catastrophe!!!!!!!
It was authorized to go that speed by the railroad, genius. The railroad is a private right of way. The truck was 100% at fault.
Border wall truck thanks biden
With new tariffs from trump containers will be empty. Lets go crappo!
That train is going at least 50% faster then train speed limit through my town on CPR.
Was the truck hauling border wall ? Texas hold'em ?
If that happened in one of those stupid Country's China or India it would make sense but in the U.S that should not happen.
I guess that makes the US stupid by your logic
🤣😂.. just stop and get back to work and fix your brain.. just worry about yourself please!
This PSA explains how to notify the railroad of an emergency at a railroad crossing. ua-cam.com/video/XF436Z-xSS0/v-deo.html
Why was this train speeding through a town. There should never ever be a train speeding through town.Simple fact a truck could be stuck.union pacific should be liable for there actions.
