My thanks to Steve McQueen, through him, we have Kunta Kinte playing through on prime time BBC 1. Amazing. Who could've imagined that happening forty years ago? Beautiful film, beautiful gift.
I remember we used to lose it to this tune back in the day not dissimilar to the scenes in Small Axe but if I’m honest no one was rolling around on the floor. The Mad Professor remix was huge too. Yeah who would have thought it 40 years ago.
I was at Club Noreik, when Jah Shaka played this brand new against Coxsone & Fatman ! The club was rammed & went into a frenzy. He played 3 or 4 cuts of it. He also dropped Human Cargo - Carry Us Beyond & Johnny Clarke - Jah Jah Give Us The Power ! WHAT A MEMORABLE HISTORY DANCE !! ❤️🔥
@@martinohara7005 you have described it so well, I've never seen any film or tv drama do this. musicals maybe but then its not as intimate or personal as this was
I asked Google what is name of that song.Yeah it's coming back to me now, how absolutely fascinating the Jamaican men were when all out "dancing like nobodies watching ". I became the " American Woman". Instead of just Afro American me in my head. I was a foreigner at home. This song made me young again. So glad I watched this.
An absolute classic and hugely influential on breakbeat / bass music from early rave to hardcore to Jungle / DnB to Dubstep (and I've been there for all of them!) It's been sampled / interpreted for the past 25 (or more) years of UK dance music culture! Big tune!
This melody springs banging tunes. The Prodigy used it in their track Jericho in 1992, massive rave tune! Then Rusko made the first, and still the best dubstep track I ever heard, Jahova.
i love dubstep and dub, i try to include both in my sets. You only get a limited experience with dub if your blasting at home. Put it through some bass cabs and your head will spin
Hilarious actually, everytime we think there is something new to listen to it seems the style was always there. Just burried and forgotten by many. 5/5
4 20 years ive produced dnb, jungle, dubstep, funk, electro, soul.. but i am on a mission in recent years to perfect the orginal dub sound. sample it, make big bass noises twisted bigness.. its doesnt compare to the rawness of 60/70s dub. luv it!
if you like rootsy dubstep check out the dubstep re-rub of 'we nah run' and 'wa do dem' by Tes. sticks close to roots whilst having that driving dubstep rhythm. no dirty basslines either.
Rebel MC had a play with it too, if you look for Junglist (although it's all remixes) and Rebel MC - Kunte Kinte. Also Ganja White Night - Peace by Fear includes the melody, for the dubsteppers.
Haha, well I'm glad someone agreed with me on this one!!! I swear - people get so protective about Dubstep these days... but it just bores me shitless. You don't need electronic 'whomp'-ness, you need some soul and meaning... Seriously though - if I was granted 3 wishes the 1st would be to remove dubstep from existence. In my opinion it's killing the free party movement with it's ridiculous slowness and general rudeness... WHAT HAPPENED TO THE VIBES EH??? ... rant over... for now at least!
if you want golden dub the two obvious ones are tubby and scientist. There's some fantastic dub around, start with those two and lose yourself in it haha
I get what your saying. Dubstep has a tendancy to go wrong more often.....VERY wrong. But after a heavy night, dub is the way to come down. I could easily chillax to 'kunte kinte' or some tubby after a heavy nights skanking. give dubstep a chance mate, it might grow on you. It's not all rusko and bassline. :) Peace
Any body kno the song that goes "sufering suffering suffering yeah right out of Babylon" it's either from linval Thompson the revelutionarys or trinity but I'm not sure who it is please let me kno if your not sure wat beat I'm talking about listen to "long time me nah rub u in a dance" that beat I want to kno the name

Just heard this brilliant track on Steve McQueen's small axe !
Likewise! Superb
Watched it earlier - superb. Just watched this whole scene again on catch-up. Not heard this for forty years.
Loved how McQueen filmed the party scenes with the full songs in real time. Like a love letter to that time ❤️
@@martinohara7005 you have described it so well, I've never seen any film or tv drama do this. musicals maybe but then its not as intimate or personal as this was
There is a great read in the December Sight and Sound with Steve McQueen being interviewed by David Olusoga. He based the main character on his aunt.
Shaka sound was the 1st one I heard this tune back in the 80s. New Cross one big hall. Bass 🔊 heavyweight. Big tune 2 this very day.
The most used Jungle sample ever. Sounds great in both roots dub and jungle. Thank you Revolutionaries for creaating this amazing tune.
The creoles beware of your enemies is the original.
I knew I heard this sampled in a jungle track. I didn't know the original. Almost went buck wild my self 😊
