Hi Karen, my daughter and I had fun making and planting in our toilet rolls. We've planted some of everything in them. Some of these plants like the squash, peppers and tomatoes will out grow very quickly, but this is a convenient way for us to get some things planted until I get bigger pots. Thanks again for sharing!❤ And happy gardening!🌽🍅🍆🍉🍓🍎🍊🌶🍌
@@noprogrow...gardeningjourn3397 make some pots using the full tube instead of half the tube. That will give more root room for those quick growing plants. Put drain holes in empty plastic drink bottles and cartons for a bigger pot. Or use buckets for even bigger pots. Pots are expensive! I've seen garbage bins that have been painted and upstyled and they look great! And you can have fun being creative.
I've recycled enough plastic bottles to last me a while and after you mentioned those few things my mind went bonkers for a minute wondering of all the things I can use right around the house like my baby formula cans and ice cream buckets. Thanks for the advice, I always appreciate a chance to keep money in my pocket and getting creative!!!
@@AthomewithKaren yes, I haven't went to bed yet 5am here. Watched the aurora this morning, fun. Excited for spring in 2 months, I about 1 month I will be starting some seeds. I had been saving rolls for another project and about tossed them 2 days ago, but now have a great use for them thanks! I have watched your bird videos, nice. Wad I Australia 3 times. 😁
@@krisqueen5939 Autumn has just arrived here. Cooler weather means I can spend more time out in my garden! I've neglected my garden recently so I'm keen to spend time out there.
Hi Karen, I just found you this morning 😀 I have a question regarding the seed strips; did you plant the whole roll as one planting or did you / have you cut it into a smaller strip? I am thinking of doing this with some lettuce seeds. Oh an by the way I I can never grow tomatoes if I plant them- the only way I have ever had them growing is if they appeared themselves! Glad to have found you.
With the seed roll, I've used what I made but I think you could store extra rolls in an airtight bag in the fridge. This is the first time I've been able to grow tomatoes! 🤣 I use Osmocote potting mix in the orange bag, if you have that where you live. It's really good stuff!
You might want to cut those bottom tabs off when you transplant. It seems toilet paper rolls are thicker than say, 2 folds of brown paper wrap. Using brown paper to make seed pots (other videos show how to do this) will definitely deteriorate enough for roots to poke through by transplant time. Thinking toilet paper rolls are thicker than that. So, best to cut that bottom right off to give roots a clear exit path.
That's a good point, Mark. Thank you for reminding me! I haven't used them for a while but I'm getting the goods together to do some gardening when the weather cools off. I would have forgotten to unfold the flaps. Your message comes with perfect timing. 😁

What clever ideas! I am definitely going to try this out :)
Thank you! I'm glad you like it. The toilet paper tape is my favourite. It makes things so much easier.
Very creative. I've been saving my rolls for composting. Will definitely try this out with my daughter. Thanks for sharing!
