How could I possibly have known the quartets of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Mendelssohn for so long and only just now found out that Schumann also wrote wonderful quartets!
Schumann next to Brahms is the greatest Romantic writer of chamber music. You must listen to his Opus 73 Fantasy Pieces and his Violin Sonatas, not to mention the Piano Quinter if you have not already.
@@calebhu6383 Thanks for those suggestions! Currently, besides the quartets, I'm listening to his leader Op.39 sung by Christian Gerhaher, who I didn't know. What a voice!
@@calebhu6383 ...Yes, the piano quintet I used to listen to many years ago. It was Bernstein playing, and it was coupled on the same CD with the piano quartet, Glenn Gould playing. I enjoyed both pieces greatly.
@@pokerandphilosophy8328 Yes, the lieder are essential.
I'm missing Debussy, Shostakovich, Ravel and Villa Lobos from your list.

07:47 : Pont (passage fugué)
08:11 : 2è thème

11:40 : Scherzo
12:53 : III. Adagio en fa majeur

Mendelssohn era entusiasta di questo quartetto.Lo riteneva straordinario.
Anybody else suspect that an angel must have kissed Schumann's forehead before he wrote this ?
Schumann himself probably believed that. His schizophrenia made him hear voices.
If any other composer could hear such musical voices as Schumann heard he would consider himself fortunate indeed !
@@debwagner7505 Sadly, the voices also led him to almost kill himself.
He was still newly married (1830) to his beloved Clara with whom he had many children. Maybe his love enabled his 1832 spurt of beautiful chamber-music-writing.
Thank you so much, finally a full set on YT of Schumann's wonderful quartets with the score to follow along!
Yeah, I was very surprised when I first realized that these quartets weren't already online! I mean, it's Robert Schumann, not some unknown minor composer...
@@SPscorevideos Ye, a pity, but now resolved :) Anyway, Mendelssohn's opus 44 SQ's are not online, at least not with the score to follow along.
@@TimondeNood I don't even know any Mendelssohn's Quartet expect from the last one! Great recommendation, you'll probably see those in 2020. ;)
One of my personal favs.

That third movement is really beautiful.
. . . and VERY difficult to play beautifully. The sound control needed is tremendous.
The 4th movement looks back to Schubert and forward to Dvorak
Amo👌🏽💕
Magnificent.
gaan we proberen vanavond, lastige passages hoor, hoe mooi zij het spelen! En de tempi in de snelle delen....

Schumann is the true successor of Mozart as Brahms is Beethoven's
Great video
I heard those string quartet 50 years ago... tempi were much slower, much more relax and It did make much more sense musically. I can not enjoy the melodies so fast. We don't hear the notes in the finale. Why do they play in such a fast tempo ?
Tbh I think it's to each there own, for example I really enjoy Vivaldi's pieces played at a faster pace then what I think would be the 'standard' tempo and I can still hear all the notes but I do prefer the piece the devil's trill at a slower pace then faster. I think it's just different for everyone.
第3楽章のテクスチュアの何と素晴らしいことでしょう😭
3rd movement, main theme reminds me of 3rd movement of Beethoven's 9th.
Non trovo il nome del quartetto che esegue il quartetto n.1 di Schumann. È possibile saperlo?
È il Cherubini Quartet, un quartetto tedesco scioltosi nel 1997.
01:35 BONDI
Great video! One thing though: Why is there no credit to any of the players?
There is, it's in description. :)
Why no credit to the players?
It's Cherubini Quartet. There's a link in description and the automatic recognition showed as "Music in this video" under the description itself.
Sadly, UA-cam can block a video according to names in description. This is totally random, and the uploader doesn't get any notification of that. Since I can't check every video every day to find out if one got blocked, I prefer to insert the link to the original audio (and, anyway, in 90% UA-cam automatically shows the performers under the description). :)
I don't find any of what you describe on my view of the video, no links, etc.
Are the videos removed because of copyright?
@@jonnaah9683 I just checked, I see the link I put in description and the track listed as automatically recognized, both from my laptop and from my smartphone. I don't know what to say. :)
Yes, there's probably some copyright deal with UA-cam, as there's with audio. But while I know if an audio gets blocked, I can't know if a video gets blocked for its description, unless I check every single video in order to find out if some of them had no increasing of views in some days... :/
How could I send you a screen shot, so you might tell me what I should click to get info you describe?
Do you see the description under the video, like any other description under any other video?

Extraordinary, right?
