On the subject of safty My welders and my self first burnd with a rosebud then rak air dcalers rose bud again for preheat than weld , weld weld not a streight wenl but in secsions then full passes Bush fix but it worked.!!!
You want to be really careful when cutting or welding galvanised parts, there are some seriously nasty fumes given off. You can see when watching the video just how much of the time your head in totally covered in smoke even though you are outside you should wear a mask.

"Apart from the health issues that welding galvanized steel can pose, there are other problems that you may encounter. One of the challenges when it comes to welding galvanized steel is that the zinc coating found on galvanized steels. This material can compromise the weld. Since there is a coating, it makes the penetration more difficult. Moreover, it can cause a weld to have inclusions and porosity. To weld galvanized steel successfully, a skilled welder is required. Furthermore, to solve the coating issue, the zinc coating should be removed from the area where you are welding. A filler material can also be used on the zinc-coated portion of the welding area."
My hats off to you for getting that track on so quickly. And at nightfall too. Your doing a great job with what you have. In a few yesrs you'll have a backhoe of some sort. Mini, or one for the back of your dozer. Then youll be able to do more things easily. Nothing like having tools and machinery. Great video. Thanks.
Now that's what I call you using your head save a lot of money and have a safer product and stronger too bad you couldn't take and bring that dozer up there and lift to have two of them and lift up that dozer to be able to fix that track properly we ran into the same problem when I was young when I was younger and my dad and my grandpa did the same thing that you did just put spacers in there so it couldn't slip back over the bad side of the of the spindle you did a good job I was actually surprised if that little utility vehicle in that winch was as strong as it was Good work young man that's using your head

On that tractor. I would do the other track and see how it was put together and copy it to the side that was broke. Because if you do one side shouldn't ya do both sides? I do not have a tractor or do I know how to work on one like you do. I am just asking that's all. Great job on that gable. Really nice work. I have 2 kids (dogs) one of them is my service dog. I was in the Marines for 8 years and the other one is my cocker spaniel. His name is buddy he is pretty funny and cool. Take care man
My first real-real job (outside the farm) was serving on a tank. When it threw a belt as badly as in this film the preferred way to get it on was to split it, reposition it and drive the tank on it again using just one track to move. Then join up the links in the track that was split. Was easiest to do where you did not have to fight gravity. Now, if you find yourself tracking inside of a swale and run off the belts on both sides, on the inside. Then you have quite few options outside splitting and towing out. Ask me how I know. That was a memorable day. But then we had loosening and tightening to spec every single nut and bolt in those tracks as part of the monthly maintenance.. Man how I enjoy your videos! Would be great to see you use a little more gear to protect your lungs and skin when welding but I am not the one to nag you on that. You have that skill good filmmakers have to produce entertaining and interesting content where others would just see a non-interesting mundane task.
nice i always wanted a hoist like thanks u inspire me. I do have a dozer like that a 1982 450c 6way blade with backhoe. What year is your 450? turbo or non turbo Dont forget to spin the cotter key under the bellhousing with a stick or your clutch will be swimming in oil and rain water if you dont. For real there is a cotter key that sticks down its in the manual. My clutch was slipping real bad i though it was the auto trans nope water and oil in the bellhousing:( I figured it out when it hit -40 and the motor would not turn. I use mine for snow plowing and final grading. I have a friend that has the super wide track it floats on 20 feet of snow like nothin but its hell on track chains and rollers. I have the standard width track 16'' i think and you would be surprised how it walks on top of 20 feet of snow. Good job on that track remount with the winch line from the handle by the seat i will use that trick some day>> knock on wood. Never lost a track i always keep them tight. P.s your blade flops around like mine did before a few days welding. no 1 eeeeeevvveeerrr greases the pivot point on the blade i see mushrooms of steel forming on yours lol not much metal left there beware of wearing through. P.Ssss My idea is putting silicone in a grease gun pack that track tensioner with it and let it dry for a week or so or maybe air soft bb's. Last year my tracks started to get loose faster, rust pitting i suspect. 1 day i will have to count my projects maybe I'll start a 199 projects channel :0 jk good show lad
Wow what a job. I wonder if you could replace the grease with a rubber puck or something. Not sure how you would get the track on though. I worry about breaking the part of the frame that the track idler is now braced against. But at least it will work until it doesn't!
I thought about that but there’s a massive spring back by the rear sprocket that will dampen the force of everything. The grease is really just to tighten
You need to grind the galvanizing off before you Plasma cut or weld, it will prolong your health and the life of your project. Also 6010 probably would have been a better choice of rod, especially since you didn't prep the weld.

The gantry is fine. You can weld galvanized, you just have to know what you’re doing.

One of my worst fears was losing a track in the woods, turns out…it sucks but it’s not that bad.

Wire wheel shaft n clean up then JB weld it n emery cloth down. Be like new
