waits' music is too precious not to be delivered to the world. i had never seen him perform EVER before youtube. now i can lose myself in his performance.
I was looking to see if anyone had covered this song, also with the singing part, but wasn't disappointed to hear your solely musical cover. Good job and thank you. BTW, I went through and gave every commenters comment a thumbs up even though some were posted in ancient early UA-cam era.
This is wonderful - all of your Tom Waits performances are exceptional! I just posted a version of'Way Down In The Hole' that is woeful next to what you're doing here. Keep them coming!
@waitswatcher I came back to listen again tonight! Any chance you have the audio posted somewhere where I might be able to download it? I can't seem to listen to it enough!! :)
Microphones, electric guitars, amps, control boards, tape decks, organs, lights, records, tapes, cds, tv, radio, all of these are forms of technology. Which of these do you want to do away with?
Give me a date when that will happen and I'll mark it on my calendar. Great song title, the day the art died. I'm looking forward to it, right after global warming.
thanks for the encouragement. i'm not trying to say who's wrong or right--i'm just stating what's so. good luck trying to get rid of the internet if that's what you're out to do. me, i'll innovate and create. in this climate, there's more opportunity than ever for musicians, just not record labels.
Maybe I'm being subjective... but... I think your cover is much much better than the original instrumentation. It really really expresses the sadness of having lost the "good old world" of the past time America shown in the video. Without the politically correct bullshit and of a time when shit got done, not just debated. Get a female voice like Chinawoman (or similar, like here watch?v=68u9VwKnl8Q ) and this will become a hit.
you've obviously got a strong radical stance about this "automated world." don't blame the internet for anything man. it's just the way things are. they didn't like it when the piano roll was invented, either, and you could listen to piano music whenever. but they dealt with it. it may be very soon that recorded music is worth nothing and musicians have to make a living touring and selling merch. i think waits will be fine! as for my music career...we'll see! :-)
Casual art? So who died and appointed you "king of art?" Lets see the same could have been said of early recordings. Going to a record store was more convenient than going to a club. I hate to break it to you but you can't change a thing.
Tom made his first million dollars by suing Frito Lay for infringement. If he didn't want his music on the internet then he would have it taken down. Since he doesn't care why should you? Odd how you are using the same technology you despise.

yea fucker read the title (cover)
and this is a great interpretation
Those of you burbling on about taking waits off the internet because he's so precious should pull your head out of your arse....
What bridge was that ?
Don't you all go thinking he's the cool type, people...

Oppressive parents? Then leave home and stop eating the food they provide and sleeping in the bed they bought.
Music- screw the words
weird video
