60007 Sir Nigel Gresley blitzes and chimes through Abergavenny - Welsh Marches Express - 27/07/2023

After taking a month long break, I'm back filming steam trains again, LNER A4 no. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley was in charge of the Welsh Marches Express from Bristol to Shrewsbury. However, I decided to have just one shot of Sir Nigel Gresley for the run due to unfortunate circumstances. Before the run, my car wouldn't start at all despite numerous attempts. It was discovered to be a faulty dashboard module causing the engine not to start. Unfortunately, my car is having a new dashboard module fitted which could take up to 2 weeks to get it fix. However, I improvised and took the train to Abergavenny instead.
I arrived in good time, and the weather started to clear away leaving a nice hazy sun for the run. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley left Bristol 15 minutes late and at one point, the A4 was nearly half an hour late. However, she made up for lost time at Newport and was running just 5 minutes late. I managed to get a spot overlooking the beautifully restored signal box and the classic semaphores signals which makes it extra authentic. The engine appeared and sounded absolutely spectacular blitzing through the quaint and historic Abergavenny station. Not only did Sir Nigel Gresley sound incredible, the amazing and iconic chime whistle made it even better, and was running in the region of 70mph. The crowd gathered at the station were equally impressed by Sir Nigel Gresley's performance and I left Abergavenny a happy man.

When your car fails you, the main line train is a great substitute. Sir Nigel Greasebag, as my Dad affectionately nicknamed her, is a credit to the main line.

An excellent piece of film, and sounding superb, but still 'she' has that panel open on the boiler/cowling side, over the driving wheels.
