    The foolproof version is to use a yellow ink after the red undertone and the light tan highlight. You can't cover too much with it and it's glorious.

    4:36 have had great results with mixing about a 50/50 mix of AK ultra matt varnish into my inks. That way I save a step and I also don't need thinner for either. The end result is still a bit satin (which I like), but that can be easily tweaked by altering the ratio.

    I was looking forward to these once I heard about the donation for Tyler. Love this format but also understand why it is an incredibly rare piece of content due to the scope. I love how every step is broken down but skills and techniques that can transfer to any paint scheme are highlighted (e.g. the use of a limited palette). I wonder if you could expand on that piece of content and do other videos along those lines such as "(whatever the proper name for the limited palette is) for Basic SCE/whatever other faction" or maybe color theory around if you chose this as your primary color this is how you go about choosing those select few other paints. Keep up the awesome work and love the cliffhanger at the end!

      @@VinceVenturella Hey man far as I'm concerned they're top notch amazing infotainment. Any new take is really valuable, like doing the yellow.
      I'm planning a wood elf army. I want to get a "sunlight shining through the canopy" look for the cloaks. I'm thinking thinking zenithal prime red, orange, white, then yellow (ink?), then the green as a contrast type glaze (ink again?), finally a deep blue oil for the shadows and a warm white oil for the highlights. I could do with your guidance. Am I thinking about this right?

    I never thought of using free-hand patterns to break up a colour on the armour. I have 60 bestigor with Tau Light Ochre armour which I dabbed with a sponge to create some rust underneath but even with that, the burnt orange is quite strong. I was wondering though what patterns would fit a BoC army, I doubt they would be the kind of race to go for intricate patterns.

    Out of curiosity, do you thin your varnishes when using them through the airbrush?

    For the "edge highlighting for free" drybrushing, what surface finish is best to just catch the edges? matte? satin? gloss? I worry something too matt and the drybrush will leave paint on the flat areas, and too gloss and the edges will spill over off the edges with a streaky look

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 місяців тому

      Doesn't really matter much, it's more about the softness of the brush and the amount of paint. A little satin can help a little, but you can do it with any.

    I wonder if a certain Rantcast Bladelord will make an appearance in a HC episode
    Very much enjoyed this. Will be sending it over to my orruk playing friends.

    A little late to the IJ Partay, but between you, Tyler, Rob, Nathan, Leo, Party at the All-Points, Ministomp, etc. I was powerless to resist thee IJ any longer! Question, if I'm following this scheme, but skipping the grime step, is it just stop after highlights and varnish? Or would you change anything?
    Thanks again Vince! 🙂👍

      I wouldn't skip it, as it provides necessary depth as I am not applying shadow any other way. That being said, you could always clean it more and get it cleaned anywhere but the deepest areas.

    @Vince - Sorry, final question! I'm at the yellow step now and at 5:20 you say "yellow white" for the highest high points. Is this just yellow ochre with white? Or, is it an actual paint colour? Cheers!

    Master Vince... I have been using the Vallejo Varnishes (also looking to order the AK ultra matte soon) but they really want to frost up when fired through the airbrush. The instructions say to use water but folks online say that the water is what causes the frosting, they recommend airbrush thinner for it. Even so it still looked like it was trying to go frosty just enough to de-saturate some color. How do you thin it to avoid this?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 роки тому

      Never use water, it's absolutely the water. A few drops of thinner is all you need. That being said, ultra matte is what you need.

    Hi vince, im in the middle of doing this same army and was wondering how you did the flesh and hooves on the goregruntas? i could not spot this in the video (unless i missed it). ive watched this 3 times now and its what got me motivated to paint these ironjaws.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  2 роки тому +1

      So the hooves were just simple brown to white straitions (I have a video on bone straitions). The Skin was a little bit of airbrush work with pink skin to ivory mix and then a very light wash of reikland fleshade.
