The thing that makes dragon-types OP has never really been the typing on itself, its that they are almost always given high stats and an absurdly diverse movepool
Faaaacts.
Right like all dragons are either legendary or pseudo-legendary.
It’s almost like what he was saying about dark, where it’s the Pokémon in the type that are good, not the type itself, personally dragon is my least favorite type, it suck offensivly only being good against itself, has 3 weaknesses, 4 common resistances (which I will admit is good) and itself as a type just really doesn’t do any of the Pokémon any favors.
I guess Altaria and Flygon hardly relate to this.
Nowadays gamefreak has gotten a bit better about including dragon-types that aren't absurdly powerful, with Pokemon like drampa and noivern and appletun, but seriously, go back and look at a list of all pokemon available in gen 4 and you will find 4 total dragon types that aren't legendaries, pseduolegendaries, or their pre-evos lol. And two of those are in the same evolutionary line (vibrava and flygon).
Gamefreak: hmm, the Dragon-type seems to be too overpowered, any ideas?
Employee 1: let's give another type a dragon resistance or another weakness.
Gamefreak: You're fired.
Employee 2: Let's make an even more overpowered type and make it immune to dragon type attacks.
Gamefreak: Great Idea, anything else
Employee 2: Instead of just adding the fairy type lets change a bunch of the more powerful normal types and make them fairy to really make dragons eat their own shit.
Gamefreak: Genius.
Dragon type is awesome I hate the fairy type. I would sign a partition to delete it from all Pokemon games

Poison is a good secondary type. Having poison as a secondary type generally improves a pokemons defensive typing, and adds another stab type which can hit fairy. Look at venusaur vs. a mono grass type. Nidoking vs. a mono ground type or alolan muk vs.a mono dark type. Poison makes for a good second type, but on it's own can be very lacking offensively.
Weezing is the exception to this, because he has an immunity to ground, which would otherwise hurt him hard as a defensive wall.

I’ll never understand why when Fairy was added in Gen 6, they gave it a resistance to Bug.
Bug being good against Psychic and Dark, but resisted by Fairy and Ghost has never made sense to me lore-wise or game mechanics-wise. If Bug was able to resist those two, instead of the other way around, it would've been had a great niche for itself, being a good switch on the four mystical magic types, all four having been part of the top meta at various times. It doesn't even need to hit them back SE as Bug types usually have Poison coverage for Fairy and Ghost doesn't need as big of a nerf.
Орхан Сулејмани someone at GF fucking hates bugs, which is weird because Pokémon was originally inspired by bug-catching.
You think they hate Bug types? What about Ice?
The only reason Ice sucks so much is bc they gave it no resistance aside from itself, it's the only type that doesn't resist anything it's effective against.
It honestly feels like they just forgot it and didn't bother fixing it.
Also Bug types at least synergise well with other secondary types, but Ice is always a detriment, no matter what.
@@knowcomment4525 at least it hits for SE a lot of strong players, has hail and Aurora veil and freezing immunity. But yeah, ice not resisting grass, water and flying at least is also a travesty. Ice types are even worse rock types for most intents and purposes, as it stands.
Bug types deserve to be regularly affective against fairies. And maybe a resistance from dragons tbh. Also Ice deserves better. Maybe a physical defense boost in Hail.

"Water types are S tier, Water is amazing."
You can actually run a team of 4 Water types that don't share ANY weaknesses (except for Freeze-Dry), which are:
1. Water/Flying = Only weak to Electric (4x) and Rock (2x)
2. Water/Ground = Only weak to Grass (4x)
3. Water/Grass = Only weak to Flying (2x), Bug (2x) and Poison (2x)
4. Water/Dragon = Only weak to Dragon (2x) and Fairy (2x)
Of course, all of these are, coincidentally, 4x weak to Freeze-Dry, but aside from that ONE move, they share no weaknesses, which is pretty amazing.
So you could run a team of Gyarados, Dracovish, Gastrodon and Ludicolo. Dunno how effective this team would be in competitive, but it's fun to imagine and plan out.
Ludicolo (Timid) would have Rain Dish + Leftovers and having Surf, Rain Dance, Giga Drain and Knock Off, 252 HP/252 Sp. ATK/6 Speed.
Gastrodon (Modest) would have Storm Drain + Life Orb and having Earth Power, Ancient Power, Brine and Sludge Bomb, 252 HP/252 Sp. ATK/6 DEF.
Dracovish (Adamant) would have Strong Jaw + Choice Band and having Fishious Rend, Ice Fang, Crunch and Psychic Fangs, 252 ATK/252 Speed/6 HP. (although Fishious Rend would probably be the only thing you use, you could replace Choice Band with Metronome, Expert Belt or Razor Claw.
Gyarados (Adamant) would have Intimidate/Moxie + Bright Powder/Focus Sash and having Ice Fang, Crunch, Iron Head and Waterfall, 252 ATK/252 Speed/6 HP.
Of course, you wouldn't have Gyarados out while it's raining in the eventuality of Thunder, but I think this set looks pretty good for a Water-only team. Might have missed something though.

"No one is knocking the dark type"
Yeah, the dark type is knocking them
My list would be:
S: Fairy, Steel, Water
A: Electric, Ground, Fighting
B: Fire, Ghost, Flying, Dark, Rock
C: Dragon, Psychic, Normal, Grass, Poison
D: Ice
E: Bug
Fighting is easily in the top 4 offensive types (the others being Rock, Ground, and Ice) and its resistances to Dark and Rock are more valuable than its weaknesses to Fairy, Flying, and Psychic. Max Knuckle is also extremely powerful (I would put it right behind Max Airstream, but you could make a case for Max Geyser or Max Flare being in this spot as well).
Fire and Rock are both very strong offensive types that get held back by their weaknesses. Dark and Ghost are both types that provide immunities and are good at dealing neutral damage to a lot of Pokemon. Dark struggles a little bit because of Fairies, but it barely squeaks into this tier thanks to its immunity to Prankster. Flying is really only relevant for its immunity to Ground and Max Airstream being the best max move in the game by far.
Dragon, Normal, and Poison are all in the same boat, they don't really contribute offensively. Dragon provides 1 more resistance than it has weaknesses, and Normal has 1 weakness and 1 immunity, but they are by far the 2 worst offensive types, to the point that having one of these type attacks on your set when it isn't stab is instantly questionable (unless it's Fake Out or Extremespeed). Psychic is only really relevant for being good against Fighting both offensively and defensively which is very valuable since Fighting is so prominent, but its weaknesses to Dark and Ghost even it out. Grass has just as many weaknesses as Ice to very prominent offensive types such as Fire, Flying (Max Airstream), and Ice, but it's evened out by having excellent match-ups with Water and Ground which are both relevant.
Ice is the worst defensive type in the game by far, but it's also one of the best offensive types. The catch is that Ice type moves get decent distribution outside of the stab users thanks to nearly every Water type also being able to learn Ice moves and Ice Punch being learnable by many Pokemon all around, so it's better to have Ice moves as coverage than it is to get STAB and a resistance to itself in exchange for crucial weaknesses to Rock, Fighting, and Fire.
Bug has no redeeming qualities.
Your opinion is very valid.
I think dragons only redeeming traits are its resistant to common & good types that being fire water grass and electric and that almost all dragon types have high BSTs and a diverse movepool.
Yeah the one is resisted by SIX types (one being Fairy and other actually being inmune to it) not to mention only 2 of the types weak to Fighting are actually seen in VCG (Steel and Dark)

I feel like a neat weakness for and resist to Fairy could be rock. Weakness to salt is a common trait amoung fairies in folklore, and they'll avoid it, so attempts at offense would be less effective. It'd also give a lot more Pokemon recourse against Fairy-types, since Rock moves are common.
If it weren’t for the fact that Bug so desperately needs a buff, I’d say this is exactly what they should do.
I also felt like Fairy should be weak to Ice as well and resist Grass. Fairies are associated with nature so Ice freezes plants, the logic of Fairy being weak to poison, and Fairies would be at home in the forest so plants wouldn't harm them.
no no fairy should weak to bug
@@RenegadeGamer89 but grass offensively is whack shit, resisted by 7 types, same as bug, just helped with water ground killer role
@@richard35791 I agree with this. It is consistent with Bug's advantage over arrogant/cognitive types.
i want a tier list for wolfey's different hair
I find fairy in a weird position. They are strong, over powered in some ways, their only weakness are from types that are not primarily attackers, but they were more made to weaken the dragon type... which it didn't do that well at, and the strongest dragon types really didn't weaken any. Garchomp is still dangerous, Salamance will still murder you... that didn't really change much.
Fairy was meant to check Dragon. Garchomp, Latios, and Salamence are still very good. They just aren't automatic win buttons anymore. Dragon had no checks before Fairy. Your best option was a bulky Water or a Steel.
@@EdmacZ Sure, but the fact they're still extremely dangerous despite such an huge counter is a bit unfortunate, and that the only thing fairies are weak to are primarily defensive types than attacking types means that fairies, to me, fail at their job of stopping dragons while still beings somewhat annoying to deal with for everything else. That's just how I feel, though.
@@theinsanegamer1024 one new weakness was never going to kill the dragon type. Just it being a A tier on this tierlist is proof that it did it's job
I’ve always felt mono flying type is one of the strongest types in the game and in order to make it less powerful they almost always stick them with dual typing. Same reason I believe as a type electric is very strong and why they have to make the actual roster of mono electric types very small or underwhelming from a offensive standpoint.
What makes you think that Mono-Electric is strong tho ? A Ground type Pokemon, which is among the most common attacking type, walls it completely and hits it super-effectively. It is also resisted by Dragon, which before gen 6 was the undisputed best Type in the game, and up to now is still a very good type, with almost every top cut featuring a Dragon Pokemon even long after the introduction of Fairy. Speaking of Fairy, while Electric won't get resisted by Fairy, it offers no counterplay to it either, and Fairy is the best Type right now. Having only 1 weakness doesn't say much, as you can make the same argument with the Normal type.
I feel like water as a type is being carried by the moves themselves like Surf, Scald, Fishious Rend, Surging Strikes. They're just among the best moves in the game overall. Surf being able to hit both foes, Scald giving burn, Fishious Rend just having ridiculous base power on Pokémon that are already very strong, and Surging Strikes hitting 3 times and having guaranteed crits.
tbf, that is still the typing, it is just the moves in said typing.
+ Defense
Two weaknesses
And Four resistances
+ Priority in Aqua Jet and abuses rain
no shit, water attack supereffective against three common moves, resist water fire and steel, and water attack only resists water grass and dragon

Totally!
I can see weakness policy in the S tier already
looool that agency reference on the scald had me dying. agency agency
Honestly, seeing him trying to remember if Fighting resists Bug by imagining using a move on different Pokémon, it makes me happy. That's the exact way I remember if a type resists something or not when I forget 😂
“Incineroar will be weak to fighting when it’s legal.” When was this filmed?
I think he misspoke, since he did do the intro
Aaron de Cuba oh that makes sense
Jimbob Joe I’m pretty sure the world championships were going to follow series 4 rules, I’m not too sure though
He meant "Incineroar is weak to fighting, in the formats that it is legal"
When Wolfey talks about his hair being bad, its like when the skinny girl calls herself fat.
Shut it Wolfey, you're hot

@Erica and the Japanese national debt put it in a tier list!
Strongly agree

Steel has always been my favorite type, even before I got into competitive. I believe my first steel mon was Aron in pokemon Ruby
Aron is Epic
I started laughing when you started listing the weaknesses to fighting and immediately moved it up.
The 3 starter types ended up in the same column. Totally planned
In the proper order, too. Water>Fire>Grass.
Of course since it's a circle between the 3, that means that F>G>W is also true as well as G>W>F, but my point is that something like Grass>Fire>Water would not have been accurate.
I remember when X and Y was pre release I was expecting Fairy to be weak to water since fiction often shows fairies struggling to fly when they get wet or bodies of water otherwise being a threat to them.
I was surprised reading that the possible explanations for Fairy weaknesses were pretty accurate to traditional fairy lore. For example, “cold iron” (or something like that) could hurt a fairy, hence the Steel weakness. And Poison I believe was because poisoning was pretty common in fairy lore.
Another user already said that they think rock could he another weakness because salt was sometimes said to be effective for warding them off.
@@alexisschiffer4830 Or make fairy weak to normal. To beat fantasy one need to face reality.

However Electric resists both Flying and Steel type attacks as well as itself - something that Wolfey forgot here.
Loving the new editing style with all the memes

@@Draeckon Normal moves aren't common. Normal pokemon *are* common
Don't forget about the passive bonuses some types have. Like grass being immune to spore moves or fire being immune to burn.
The fairy type is my favorite in the game when it goes to theming and design, but I think it should be neutral from bug and ice should resist fairy.
Ice and tundra is like a wasteland compared to fae woods, and furthermore ice can filter or partially reflect light, which is a big theme of fairy.
I personally want ice to resist water as well, and then I'd be pretty content with the types overall.
Though many others mentioned it, having ice types gain bonus defense in hail to respond to the rock boost in sand would be sick too.
Maybe bugs can have increased healing or defense in grassy terrain can be cool if bugs could get a gimmicky conditional boost.
Flying should not resist Grass
Some plants develop anti-eating mechanisms. How does a just of wind seriously affect a plant. They should make moves like pluck still be super effective towards Grass by default though.
Theres this other game like pokemon that has different typings ,like toxic (Basically poison) being super effective against water because of Pollution. I won't say ,but typings like this would work well in pokemon. Just give poison more moves.
@@taiphonix9232 I can see what you're saying with that. I think it's the same reason flying beats bug. Many birds eat fruit and seeds, and air separates spores and pollen.
I think Grass can legit resist fairy as another pitch, since plants filter light, which is a huge theme of fairy typing. Plus, the wild and woods hosts the theming of the fae, so fairies won't want to bust their home or source of power.
@@BestgirlJordanfish I was going to say that grass should be at least neutral to fairy ,but didn't say because I focused on 1 topic

Shit I had no idea Wolfe has a UA-cam channel....I am in awe of this man. If there was a real life Pokémon master or Champion, it’s this guy.
When you said "Fighting types are maybe better than fighting itself", you were pretty damn correct.
I did some checking on pokemondb, which quickly shows you for any type how high it ranks compares to the other types per stat.
Dragon is the best stat wise, not surprising, being in the top 5 (top 3 even, but I specifically checked top 5) for all 6 stats.
However, some more interesting results were the next most common types across the 30 available (24 after Dragon lmao), with Fighting hitting the top 5 in; Attack (#1), Health (#5) and Speed (#4), the other types appearing 3 times are Steel (A #3, D #1, SD #4) and Ground (H #4, A #5, D#4).
Of those 3 types however, Steel and Ground are anywhere from below average to shite in the other 3 stats (highest is #11 for steel in H and SA), but Fighting is actually #7 in both D and SD.
Fighting is top 7 in every stat bar Special Attack, for which they are #14, meaning that after Dragon they have overall perhaps the best combination of meaningful stats, as a lower A or SA is generally fine, not many pokemon run mixed sets anyway.
Here the list of how all types in the top 5 of the 6 stats stack up with appearances:
6: Dragon
3: Fighting, Steel, Ground
2: Psychic, Electric, Ice, Ghost, Dark
1: Normal, Fairy, Fire, Flying, Rock
It should be said though you can also make the cutoff at 6 (top 1/3) 7,8 or even 9 (top half) places and you'll find some types become more or less standout, as I said Ground and Steel would stay at 3, but Ice ranks as following (H #2, A #7, D #5, SA #8, SD #6, S #10) so at cutoff 6 it already matches Steel and Ground, and by 8/9 it has 5 stats, it's only bottom half stat being speed, just barely.
Psychic comes to mind as the next well rounded type (H #6, A #11, D #8, SA #2, SD #1, S #6)
Flying is also high up there (H #8, A #9, D #15, SA #7, SD #9, S #1) though their combined defensive stats make their spread less impressive than Fighting and Psychic. Ice and Flying are more counterparts in this regard, with both being balanced, but Ice having slightly low Speed, and Flying lower bulk.
By the time you reach the top 9 the list looks like this:
6: Dragon
5: Fighting, Psychic, Ice, Flying
4: Fire
3: Dark, Steel, Ground, Ghost, Water
2: Rock, Normal, Electric, Fairy
1: Poison
Electric and Fairy are 2 tricks, barely moving from the top 5 list (if at all) Water snuck in there with 3* #9, but the other 3* score a bit lower in their bottom half scores, so it's fine.
But this just proves, yes Fighting pokemon are indeed just good, not the typing on it's own per se, same goes for Psychic.
Ice is held back by it's typing, it has well rounded bulk and offenses, but what good is bulk when Steel, Fighting and Rock are among the best in Attack, and Fire in Special Attack.
in gen 1, dragon had a rough start thanks to its move being a really bad move in d rage who always does 40 damage every single time
My reality shattered when i heard him pronounce decidueye as dekidewey
I find it really impressive you were able to list all the weakness and resistances of a type without a single cut, this is truly the champion 💪
Except he made a lot of mistakes and doubled back on his statements often
@@lebisketman1274 still pretty impressive, no one is perfect, I can barely tell all of the type matchups most of the time let alone the resistances
I’m so glad that flying has gotten the respect it deserves! Also notice how flying and ground have some of fewest gyms (besides dark) and flying can have some really good coverage moves.
I appreciate this since I am a flying specialist!

I think Normal type's placement is fair, but I also like the type a lot because of Normal Pokemon having, on average, an incredibly wide and versatile movepool. One normal type can learn a variety of moves of varying types, and it makes them very useful.
The only type I've really battled with is ghost types, and they're really fun to use. I don't know much about fighting competitively, but I love fighting with ghost types, and they're really good too
My non-competitive team of normal types hates your non-competitive team of ghost types
Interesting how the original elite 4 kind of went up the list: Ice, Rock, Ghost, Dragon.
