To repeat myself, I am very excited for the Chungkingosaurus episode, I can't wait for 90 minutes of uninterrupted talk about topics which have absolutely nothing to do with the dinosaur.
As someone with a 4 month old kitten (old enough to be devious, young enough to be impossible to hold anything against): these guys have a similar energy. I'm sure I liked them before but I've even greater affection now. H tier for this wretched little goblin creature.
These last couple episodes have just made me so amused at how historical paleontology would justify their conclusions. “These results aren’t inconsistent with previous findings because I say so. Ain’t nature wonderful?” Indeed it is lmao!
Yippee the tiny little guy is finally here. The Lost World was my introduction to these guys, and it’s still the most iconic look of the dinosaur for me.
I can’t believe next week will be the last episode of Skelly Boys (and girl) where it will inevitably end with a Chungkingosaurus impaling all the members with one fell swoop
6:33 Fun Fact: In Camp Cretaceous, it’s confirmed that the Compys have venom in their bites, which would explain how they’re able to overpower & take down an adult human.
I love the compies but they and the other hyper small species like Moros feel weird with how the game designs it's enclosures. You can make a pretty small enclosure and low fences in Planet Zoo for animals like prairie dogs but in JW evolution pretty much every fence is clearly designed with larger animals like the Dryosaurus or Raptors at the minimum. Still go out of my way to use them all though
49:41 That actually blew my mind more than anything I've ever heard in paleontology ever. I'm legit trying to rack my brain around how that's even possible. Like holy shit.
Ive recently been to the Solnhofen limestones with university. At their museum they claimed to be the only place in the world where Jellyfish fossils were found.
WEIRD FUN FACT: Did you know that in the Latin American Spanish dub of The Lost World, the Robert Bakker paleontologist introduces the Compsognathus as PROcompsognathus triassicus. Correcting the mistake by the original english dub where it is introduced as COMpsognathus tirassicus instead of longipes
A great design from TLW:JP that feels like it's now the go-to reference for Compy. I really like how they made it look harmless and tame-looking but gave it more than one creative yet brutal scenes where just the number of them and their behaviour makes them a chilling presence. Goes to show you don't need to intentionally design your dinos to look scary (cough cough Giga :P ) just let them act like unrestrained pesky demons and you won't forget them XD
The Procompsagnathus in the Novel are one of my favorites because of their major role in the beginning. I haven’t finished the novel yet, but that had me hooked when I was listening to it via audio book
Pyroraptor is the weird uncle who shows up at the family reunion, and while nobody's really sure why he's there, nobody wants to be the one who asks him to leave.
A quick note on the word _Lagerstätte_ by someone whos speaks German: While it can be interpreted as "burial site" in the context of paleontology specifically, the word _Lager_ is best translated as "camp/campsite", "storage" or "storehouse", depending on the context. Thus, the literal translation of "Lagerstätte" would be something like "storage site".
For anyone interested, I think a group of compsognathus would be called a clamor, as they were likely very energetic animals, and as a nod to their appearances in the Jurassic Park franchise.
In my very professional opinion of I looked at it and had a thought, I think this design in the movie was based on Procompsognathus more so than Compsognathus itself. The long neck and skull shape look a lot like a coelophysid, and the info from the film about it being discovered by Fraas in 1913, and the species name C. triassicus all lines up with Procompsognathus more (though it is also apparently from Bavaria which is more correct for Compsognathus). Does that make sense?
These would be bird department size , meaning someone would be tasked with manual restraint for vet exams. All the feisty of a goose but the angry football carry wouldn’t protect you the head is the weapon
Lack of feathers aside, I adore the JP Compsognathus. TLW is by far the best of the JP/JW sequels (Sorry Amelia, but it's true) and the design they gave for it is really my head-canon Compy after all these years. Its coloring is very appealing but natural, I love its funny skipping, and its sounds are iconic. They're evil little gremlin dinos and I love them to death. P.S. I'm surprised there wasn't a single Skips from Regular Show joke for this dinosaur
The Oxford University 2022 “Word of the Year” perfectly describes this animal. Compsognathus truly represents “goblin mode” in the movies for beating societal norms as it unapologetically ate a baby and possibly several children. Be like the compies, become ungovernable.
i love all of 3 small animals in this game Segisaurus, Sinoseroptryx or however you spell the babies name, and Oviraptor Compy is cool? Moros i just wish was accurately sized and Microceratus is what i see in nightmares
Wait so is this Compsognathus or Procompsognathus? Cause I watched JP2 recently and they called the little guys Procompsognathus triassicus. Is this not the same creature from JP2? I don’t have this game, is Procompsognathus even in the game?
Not quite. In the film they call it Compsognathus triassicus, combining Compsognathus' generic name with Procompsognathus' specific name for some reason, and the attribution of its discovery also lines up with Procompsognathus. It's unambiguously P. triassicus in the books, and Horner confirmed it was based on, and intended to be, Compsognathus within the film canon. Just one of those little details that they changed because we all needed to be confused over 25 years later. Frankly, the best way to think about it is as a slightly more confused Velociraptor/Deinonychus situation.
@@FragulumFaustum Maybe it was the version I watched or I just subconsciously replaced the words in my head, but I /swear/ they said Procompsognathus. I had subtitles on too because I have processing issues. I specifically remember being like “Wait, what?? They’re not Compsognathus???”
@@SaritaWolf Considering the similarity of the generic names and the very distinct species names, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it was a subconscious assumption that you had just missed the first syllable, or if the guy who was writing subtitles had done the same.
Camp Cretaceous canonized Compys being venomous, with a reference to Hammond's death in the novel. Their venom had a narcotic effect, so you'd be high AF while they tear your face off. Trying to kill these guys in Dino D-Day was annoying, as they'd just run around you in circles before self-destructing. Loved the propaganda poster character selection showing one at the Gates of Valhalla.
Wait, but wasn't the compy in Jurassic Park a different animal? Procompsognathus? I don't get it, are they the same? Do we have the compsognathus in JWE2 while the movies have procompsognathus?
It was Procompsognathus in the book, but in the film canon it has always been Compsognathus, and Jack Horner confirmed in an interview that they were modelled after and intended to be the latter... though, confusingly, they're given as C. triassicus, which isn't a real species, but P. triassicus is.
The Matrix can never be perfect. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect matrix. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect matrix was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from.

*HOOOOONKKKKK* YEAHHHHHHH ASIAN STEGOSAUR NEXT WEEK!!!! You know I might've bought this game if it was all Asian stegosaurs, but no, of course not. We can't have nice things, can we?
Designated little goblin status
Also to note, Alex is correct, these guys have more confirmed kills than the Giga
Goblin deez 🥜 😂

Oh, they mentioned it during the rating.

Chungkingosaurus: I am inevitable
Still waiting for the inevitable 10 hour long Spinosaurus video. Hope there's a 2 hour long segment going over the many iterations of it ☠️
Imagine watching a video about dinosaurs and getting jumpscared by a Warrior Cats mention...

The incredulity in James' voice at the mention of BANDITs 😭

I think it was originally confirmed in the book

A tiny hoppy boi who you could easily crush with your bare hands
