The soldier character in that movie had full right to be furious over Preity Zinta's character for her statements. The other guy in the room who says towards the end "Karan, Saket good night bol raha hai" was the one who got killed. He also appeared briefly when Pretty Zinta appeared for the first time in Kargil.

I do believe the Major protects the Constitution and among those things is the freedom of speech. It's very insensitive to talk shit about the armed forces sitting next to them, right after one of their brothers has been killed. However, the Major forgets his Dharma, to protect the constitution, and the freedom of speech is part of that dharma.
