She was just dreaming of a night out with a beautiful dress, she wasn't thinking at all to be rescued by a man... The only thing I always found disturbing is that I so wanted her to wear the dress sewed by the little mouses (that sewing scene still makes me cry today), she didn't need that pompous dress from the fairy

So maybe if she sat with her daughter and explained these cartoons actual meanings and morals- that way she would have a different outlook on them idk
I’d love a man to show up on a talk show and say “men, don’t save the woman tell her to save herself”. These people think they’re being so progressive. They’re actually creating a huge divide.
The way she side-eyed the American audience and put her drink down when they started chanting "chug chug" was the most British thing I've ever seen her do, lol. Awesome.
This woman hasn't seen a Disney movie in a long time and it shows. People who constantly make Cinderella out to be this pinnacle of anti-feminism are basically saying the abusive situation she was put in against her will since she was a CHILD was her fault and she was weak for not solving it on her own a long time ago. Her simplifying the characters circumstances in such a way speaks to a broader issue and she outta sit down and watch the movie all the way through herself. She thought she was being so progressive too. Peak ignorance.
This is the same woman who played Elizabeth Swann, a damsel in distress, in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean lol. Also she played hard to get in Love Actually. The point is that they're animations and kids want to believe in fantasy.
i love Keira, but that she banned The little Mermaid... her idea is great, but at the end, Ariel gives up her voice mostly because of her dream (which is being finally a human), not just because of Eric. Well, I am not the mother of her child and it’s her decision obviously, I just wanted to tell you my opinion.
I just replied to another comment and it is kind of emblematic, though - there's a lot of room for discussion. In order to be with this guy, she does have to, in essence, change who she is, and losing her voice can be seen as a metaphor - even if it's not only "for the guy", it's in order to fit in, to be what she's always wanted to be (denying her very existence as what she was born as). I'm not saying it's one way or the other, but there is so much possibility for discussion. I love the little mermaid, and I watched it a million times as a child, but while the Disney version is definitely an improvement over the original, it can totally be seen as problematic. Other movies like Mulan or Pocahontas undeniably show a more assertive female lead😉
And also, the VILLAIN, Ursula, sings about how men don't care to hear women speak and she doesn't need her voice anyway. It's clearly addressed in the film.
I’m with Cinderella. I’d marry a rich prince to escape abuse any day! The prince was kind, handsome and rich. Nothing wrong with he and Cinderella falling in love.
Exactly she’s the one that wanted to go to the ball on her own, and then saw the prince and they fell in love and she left at midnight and HE is the one going after her. She didn’t wait around for him to save her.
She's a great actress and also very pretty, but my God I didn't know someone could say something so dumb. I guess it's an example of what extreme feminists got wrong. They condemn everything related to femininity, traditional roles, homemaking etc. True feminism is about giving women the freedom to choose. But when she says such things, she implies that some women are better than others. I want to work and be independent but if a woman wants to stay at home to be a homemaker or wants to bag a rich man and be his trophy wife, that's none of your business. If they are both happy like this then live and let others live. Hypocrite.
Keira needs to watch these Disney movies again and open her eyes and go behind it. And who calls the choice of her daughters Halloween costume boring? Really? „Yeah support her in anything she wants to do?“
I'm just going to say this. Ariel did not give up her voice for a man, she also wanted to become human. She even stated in part of your world, "what would I pay to spend a day warm on the sand? " Cinderella was not rescued by some Prince. All she wanted was a new dress and to go to a party. The prince was just a bonus. In the end sje was saved by her animal friends. In my experience, my parents banned me from watching princess cartoons and that made me want to watch them even more. And lastly, she just gives the same generic response as to hate princesses
ehm she is not transformed to monkey she cant be ,,still beautiful,, :D nobody actually. Beautifulness have no limits. But it can be your point of view : ,,Oh i still like how she looks,, that sounds more realistic :)
Technically the little mermaid she gave her voice up because she wanted legs the guy was icing on the cake and she was being rebellious sooo not completely horrible lol. There was also alot of her saving him from drowning which I think it was one of the first princess movies you see a princess rescuing the man instead of sitting their watching him drown or waiting for a miracle she actually jumped in and saved him and went after the sea witch she didn't just sit on the side lol.
i mean to each his own but Cinderella is such a great film, I watched it a million times throughout my childhood and i ended up just fine lol as if a movie could define your whole life’s values and principles pelase..
1. Putting it up like this, makes those movies seem more powerfull than the parents abilities to teach their kids the valuable things. 2. If i'm correct she played a woman who was saved and also waited several years alone for a cursed man who roamed the seas.
She plays the roll of a woman who needs constant saving by men (Elizabeth Swan), but her daughter is not allowed to watch a movie because someone is waiting for a man? Talk about hypocrisy!
What!? Elizabeth swan was the opposite of what you just said! She learned to fight and saved the others just as much as they saved her. She made plans and fought dirty and did everything which WASNT expected of a woman in that time period. Elizabeth swan is amazing
So Ariel didn’t give her voice up for a man, she wanted adventure even before Eric. She fought for what she wanted even if her dad was not happy. She saves Eric so that’s amazing. Yes, Ursula used her but it’s through Ariel’s passion of adventure and discovery that she was so willing to give up her voice. The man was just a bonus!
Part two -- I grew up watching these movies and never thought that a man had to come rescue me. It's important to teach your own kids about reality vs. fiction too. (Even though most kids can figure this out themselves). There are more important things to protect your kids from -- like the advertising industry. All those ads young girls will see that send the message "you need makeup to look good" and "your body should look this way". Also girls are discouraged to go into fields like science and math, many times subconsciously . "oh that's for boys" etc. There's centuries of that kind of thinking that's ingrained in society. That's the kind of stuff to be focused on improving for girls, not "the little Mermaid" Keira even admitted she likes the movie! And she turned out just fine didn't she? Case and point!
I agree. I grew up watching these films and still watch them as an adult, but I didn’t wait for a man to rescue me. I agree with you on everything else as well. If young girls want to be scientist we should encourage them and also tell them not to pay attention to the toxicity of the media.
Keira has admitted that a child, she always played around with toys and would make up different stories and scenarios. This fascination prompted her to become an actress so that she would take different roles as her dolls did.
I can't wait until her daughter goes to school and has no idea what other kids are talking about. Or until they watch the movies in school, and her daughter can finally form her own opinions on the movies. Depriving a child of classic Disney films is like depriving a teen of wifi.
IsaacA192 but that was because they were working class, not because of their gender. If only men were oppressed for being working class that would be a valid point but,, women are too
I don't like the idea of banning movies, poems, books. We have a brain, let use it! We must have trust and let our children see or read, choose and not choosing for them. I think The Little Mermaid is about LOVE and passion, about giving, about making mistakes and being forgiven . It is not about giving up for a man (or for a woman), it is about choosing your way! Let's not robotize the human being. Not watching Disney is so sad!
You can get glitter in your eye, that can be an even bigger problem if it gets lodged into your tear duct. As a witch myself, I like Keira Knightley and I think she said what she did out of ignorance, I must say it was hurtful to hear her say those things about witches. Dressing up as a witch for Halloween has had its controversy in the witch community but that's not what Keira Nightly was referring to and so that is a different issue.
There is a lot of arguments to be had about films especially Disney films , pro or against us woman should discuss them but most of all I love her boldness to speak her truth about a Disney movie while promoting a Disney movie
Assume that Disney characters were really flawed ( which they are not in my opinion), they are still the most important parts of anime history! If we ignore and erase all of our arts from the past just because they contradict the contemporary ideologies we are just destroying the foundation of our improvements!
They are more than movies though, they have a deep cultural and mythological impact. Sad that people seem to get them wrong, parrot that misinterpertation and try to indoctrinate people from seeing them.

Now she wants to be a lion 🦁
I love her but that was the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard
Which 1?
If you mean the movies thing, I completely agree
100%
I, on the other hand, will FORCE my kid to watch Little Mermaid, no matter boy or girl and we will SING all the songs together ;)
YES! And my children will know who the Fairy Godmother is and all the lyrics to A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes.
I will forcw my children, boy or girl, to watch every single Disney princess movie in order of release date.
That's sad. I hope you don't have kids.
She's way too pleased with herself when she claims that she "banned" her daughter from seeing Cinderella and Little Mermaid
Well we can say the _pride_ and _prejudice_ *wink wink* got to her a little
Yes You're right. I grew up watching them and never ever focused on the stuff she mentioned. Cinderella taught me to dream big and that everything is possible no matter how big your dreams are and little mermaid taught me that u can make everyone fall in love with u without speaking, saying a word, it's your actions that matter. So maybe if she sat with her daughter and explained these cartoons actual meanings and morals- that way she would have a different outlook on them idk
@@zhanetaharutyunyan8535 yup .
I’d love a man to show up on a talk show and say “men, don’t save the woman tell her to save herself”.
These people think they’re being so progressive. They’re actually creating a huge divide.
Well said
What's wrong with dividing women and men?
Now its come to bashing the little mermaid, what kind of world is this?
I know, she said herself she loved the little mermaid as a child and she hasn't done too badly for herself....... complete contradiction 🤨
Ariel gave her voice up to be a human, she always wanted to be a human! She sings about it in the begining of the movie
I love Keira but YIKES they're just movies. You're seriously gonna ban your daughter from watching them? 😂
I watched all of those movies and I turned out great. ✊🏾👍🏾
Wasn't she in Pirates of the Caribbean who got rescued by a man?
Yes, multiple men in fact.
Too be fair tho she did rescue herself in the second one and in the third one she was a badass
That's what I was thinking 🤣
But at least she must've known that was wrong
Marcus Aurelius lllooooooolllll😂😂😂😂😂😂
Tell me you're not a legitimate feminist without telling me you're not an legitimate feminist:
È una misandrica
ariel gave up her voice for love, not a man. please don't try to make feminism toxic lol
What’s the problem with “for a man”
i love Keira, but that she banned The little Mermaid... her idea is great, but at the end, Ariel gives up her voice mostly because of her dream (which is being finally a human), not just because of Eric. Well, I am not the mother of her child and it’s her decision obviously, I just wanted to tell you my opinion.
YES!
Exactly! Not sure whether this is good parenting or not cuz those Disney movies are classics
Other movies like Mulan or Pocahontas undeniably show a more assertive female lead😉
same with cindrella she wasn't waiting for rich man to save her... she just want to be loved by someone
Hypocrite.
Ariel gave up her voice for love. Not a man, but an emotion. Huge difference.
This is one of my favorite comments on Ariel thank u 😀
A man she had never even spoken to. Really would backfire in the real world
Serversinger Well the difference is that Cinderella is a cartoon for kids, it’s not the real world.
@@ArianaFlowersandDaveHowsare well women back in Ariel's day would marry men that they never spoke too before, so not a big deal honestly.
@@ArianaFlowersandDaveHowsare yes yes yes
Keira has a gentle personality. She’s also so pretty🙂
What would childhood be without the Little Mermaid?
No where... From the series to the movie were both necessities.
People used to read books to their children.
I never saw The Little Mermaid until I was 19, and I turned out fine.
Still the most beautiful woman in the world
ehm she is not transformed to monkey she cant be ,,still beautiful,, :D nobody actually. Beautifulness have no limits. But it can be your point of view : ,,Oh i still like how she looks,, that sounds more realistic :)
Meh. 7.5/10
Not even close.
*...erm. Okay ???* 😕
No doubt
Lets be honest her daughter will 90% grow up to be a "model" !!!!! All celebrities kids are!! even if they don't look it..... #nepotism !
what other use do 'pretty faces' have? useless when it comes to doing something important in the home.....
I also think it's offensive to women that fire fighters are men 99.9% of the times. Only women should rescue women. It's degrading otherwise.
My son watches Finding Dory and Moana every single day! He's a year and a half, already trying to sing all the songs and dancing along 😍💛
No screens before 3 is highly recommended and then with parsimony (obviously not every day). Read him stories instead.
So Keira’s daughter is banned from watching Pirates Of The Caribbean. Yay, GIRL POWER.
i mean to each his own but Cinderella is such a great film, I watched it a million times throughout my childhood and i ended up just fine lol as if a movie could define your whole life’s values and principles pelase..
I love how down to earth and funny she is, very humble!
1. Putting it up like this, makes those movies seem more powerfull than the parents abilities to teach their kids the valuable things.
2. If i'm correct she played a woman who was saved and also waited several years alone for a cursed man who roamed the seas.
Apparently feminist nowadays see being in a relationship as the opposite of female empowerment. Good job on undermining your child intelligence btw.
Ban plastic straws like the one in the margarita!
Hahahaha Gold
Mrs D well if u take a closer look, that’s actually not plastic straw but paper straw
@Jackie McCartney yup. The straw squished at the end that she sipped from.
I disagree with banning those movies
When did Cinderella wanted to be "rescued"? Girl just wanted to go to the ball and happen to meet the Prince.
"I WILL NOT work with glitter" *wearing a glitter dress*
So Ariel didn’t give her voice up for a man, she wanted adventure even before Eric. She fought for what she wanted even if her dad was not happy. She saves Eric so that’s amazing. Yes, Ursula used her but it’s through Ariel’s passion of adventure and discovery that she was so willing to give up her voice. The man was just a bonus!
So giving up your voice, disobeying your father, and ditching your family is okay as long as it’s for adventure. Okay, cool. Got it.
She doesnt know what she is talking about in regards to Disney Princesses
Her knowledge is purely superficial; based on dolls and a couple of clips....
Exactly 🤦🏽♀️
Never liked her.
This fascination prompted her to become an actress so that she would take different roles as her dolls did.
say goodbye to the next contract with Disney, or Marvel
How beautiful AND hilarious 😍😍👏AND I appreciate for captions😍
Oh man everyone defending Cinderella 😂😂😂
As they should. She’s overhated
Surprised she didn't raise her daughter as a trans-lion.
ELLEN NEEDS TO GET HAYLEY KIYOKO ON THE SHOW!!!!!!!!
THE LESBIAN ICONS MUST MEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Da Golden Chiken Tru Y on httithryiyr htrtrbttuymfrrhrryrjm5t it was gtri trfey he is not reachable at least he didn't get
Who is this Hayley and why have i never heard of her!?
I can't wait until her daughter goes to school and has no idea what other kids are talking about. Or until they watch the movies in school, and her daughter can finally form her own opinions on the movies.
Depriving a child of classic Disney films is like depriving a teen of wifi.
Depriving a teen of Wifi is a blessing lol
Does she ban movies where men make sacrifices for love?
@@thaliarice3891 Yes, the lower class have always been oppressed throughout history men and women alike.
@@thaliarice3891 then she never shouldve married a men..
IsaacA192 but that was because they were working class, not because of their gender. If only men were oppressed for being working class that would be a valid point but,, women are too
Thalia Rice we're talking about love, not social oppression ...
Ellen is such a witty host not let anyone relax...Keira so lively really a gentlewoman
Unseen part of the interview ;)
Keira: I also banned for my daughter "Pirates of the Caribbean", because my heroine save a million times by two man.
And another million times when she saves herself or others!
I lost it when Ellen said " Bring out the Margaritas" xD
You lost it.
There's a lot of things wrong with Dory. Cinderella and The Little Mermaid are classics. Ugh.
Yea my 6 yo daughter watched both and she just loves princesse. Jesus, what a bunch of goofy people people in Hollywood...
They think because they're successful it makes them right. Like, no Keira, you play make-believe for money, you don't do philosophy. Simmer down.
Keira Knightley face is a classic beauty.
Can't wait to watch The Nutcracker and the Four Realms!
This lady is creepily obsessed with disliking men
Could you imagine having a woman like this in your family? God forbid.
Who isn’t what?
Bless her!!!
@@thaliarice3891 is it censorship a form of empowerment? Interesting.
Which is ironic considering her daughter wouldn't exist without one.
I usually don't comment on these videos but that dress is stunning!
We live in such a PC era that there's now a problem with watching Cinderella and The Little Mermaid.
She wasn't complaining getting saved in pirates of the caribbean
She has started to look like Lena headey...
I was about to comment this... 😂
In both ways... Beautiful 💕
Exactly

@@blingring1008 thank you...
Great! All British look alike :))
Finally Keira Knightley came to Ellen’s show again
Keira: No Glitter!
* says this wearing a dress with glitter *
There is a lot of arguments to be had about films especially Disney films , pro or against us woman should discuss them but most of all I love her boldness to speak her truth about a Disney movie while promoting a Disney movie
Assume that Disney characters were really flawed ( which they are not in my opinion), they are still the most important parts of anime history!
If we ignore and erase all of our arts from the past just because they contradict the contemporary ideologies we are just destroying the foundation of our improvements!
I love her after watching Pride and Prejudice!!! Now, I've watched all her movies!
Did she actually watch the movies? Like Ariel sang part of your world way before she even knew Eric existed.
She criticized Cinderella for wanting to marry a rich guy but Elizabeth Bennet did the same thing with Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice
Yes, we also want a lesbian sequel to Bend it Like Beckham! 🎉
Blimey ~ she is a mum doing her best, she didn't suggest anyone else should think the same.. Wow
They're just movies, calm down...
They are more than movies though, they have a deep cultural and mythological impact. Sad that people seem to get them wrong, parrot that misinterpertation and try to indoctrinate people from seeing them.
right ! even as a child I knew movies were just fictional
@@livealive7131 huh? if a character flips off someone, do you really think all children are going to imitate said character? especially if they have parents around to tell them "no, that's rude, not okay"
