  • Samoa has produced some of the world's best rugby players. But for decades, cultural norms prevented women from playing the sport.
As a young girl, Tafale longed to play the game, even though her parents discouraged her from taking it up.
Now a single mother, she embraces Samoan customs, known as the Fa'a Samoa, and diligently meets her family responsibilities. But she hasn't given up her rugby dreams.
When Olympic try-outs are announced, Tafale is determined to make the women's national team. Can she maintain local traditions and still fulfil her ambitions?

The coach is criticizing the Samoan based players for their lack of communication but he needs to learn to communicate himself. If you don't know how to speak your mother tongue then at least figure out ways to communicate with our players because last I checked, you're employed by the Samoan Rugby Union. Well done Tafale for making the team and being humble in doing so. It was very heart warming watching your journey. Malo lava le taumafai.

I'm glad someone said this, make me furious how the coach can't observe or understand or analyze his own players shows his intelligence in lacking......

More like communication on field and if they don’t understand something ask.

At 5.40 with the children racing on the road. That bought back fond memories of my cousins and I doing exactly the same thing. Amazing story and bless you Tafale for respecting your fa'asamoa. God bless you and your family.

It should be a mandatory requirement if you are going to be a coach for Samoa you speak the language...how do you expect the players from Samoa to understand if all you speak is English!!

It would be beneficial for all members of the team for their coach to explain things in english and samoan as well. He is samoan, learn the language.

They probably understand him speaking in English but it would be better if he spoke to them in Samoan. He should have learnt from former Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan he learnt abit of the language in order to try and communicate with the Fijian players sometimes coaches needs to understand players and their background. GB the Samoan sisters I hope they make it big and end up as regulars on the world 7s series like the Fijian women.

    • @nemo9343
      @nemo9343 6 років тому +1

Agreed. It would've helped him to learn about how to actually address young Island women. Not a fan of the coaches choice of words either. He has an obligation to himself as a Samoan, AND his squad to learn the language.

If players don't trust you..... If players don't know you....... they won't open up to you, communication is the key and the coach far from an exemplar himself

gr8kooks haha i understand that. But he doesn't have to lose weight to be a good coach. Look at the Worlds Number One rugby team right now : The mighty All Blacks, Steve Hansen is the coach, hes probably the same or bigger then this guy. So once again, nope he doesn't need to lose weight.

Tafale’s lack of communication makes it harder for her to do more, other than that she’s a very good player. I think one thing’s holding her back is her child, and that takes away her 💯% commitment to the game..wish her well with her little Princess👍

Malo Tafale le taalo faatamali'i. Alu pea oe i lau faasamoa. The coach needs to be fluent in Samoan if he decided to be the coach for our Team. It doesn't matter if the girls can't speak English as long as they know the technic required. Many players from other countries always speak in their own mother tongue. Coach stop picking on the girls but think about your part as a coach and how to improve your way of delivering the message across the team. Learn your faasamoa.

The nature of dominance is from past experiences of appeasing to those who conquered Samoa. Sadly alot of it shows because the structure that created these misconceptions is based on what the culture has its current foundation on.

American Samoa and Western Saoma are 1. American Samoa is a territory of the United States of America. You would think we would be citizens of the United States by now. We still have to file for citizenship and pay for it. We have show proof. We still have to pay to call long-distance communication. We need dollar stores, Walmart, human resources, and libraries in each village. The hospital is scary, we don't have any resources or doctors, the minimum wage is $3.00
We don't have the resources that America has. Our government is short changing us. Nevertheless, everything is possible with our God. He sees everything unfair. He will make everything right once again. God will settle our account in Jesus' name, Amen.
    Malo faamalosi si ou atunuu.
Blessings are on the way. Keep doing the right thing. Keep Thanking Jesus for what you have and for the pain. Never give up and chase after your dreams ✨️ 🙏 💯 💪 ❤ God heard your cries. Just keep doing. You're almost there. ILE SUAFA O IESU AMENE. Thank you, Jesus, for hearing our prayers.
