Hate jump cut during cv axel removal. It's obvious they pulled it out first, then made it look easy. Also there is no space in a 2010 Prius to wedge axel out. Every path to it is blocked.
MAY be a stupid question but, what about topping off the Transmission fluid after you put it back together? Shouldn't some have come out when you removed the CV seal?
+A C Thank you for the great question! You should not have to for this application, as it will only be a small amount that is lost. If you notice that a lot has come out during this process then it would be a good idea to top it off at that point! 1aauto.com
I have an 05. half the fluid came out with that shaft.Yes, roughly 2 Qts. To get the shaft out I used a 1/2 inch craftsman ratchet handle. It just fit perfect in the gap behind the CV as a lever so I taped it with a heavy hammer and it just popped out. They come right off once you get a stout bit of metal behind it. Big screwdrivers or a nail puller didn't work for me as they bounced, flexed, and moved. Couldn't get a good square pop. The plug on the bottom of the transaxle with the allen head is the drain. Pull that right away. Drain all the fluid. Go straight from there up and around twds the front. There is a plug. That is the level.Take that out too. Don't be confused with the one in line with the two transmission coolant lines that is to drain that. Don't mess with it. Ok now put the allen head drain plug back in. Put a small funnel into 1/2 inch aquarium tubing. Takes about 3 or 4 feet of tube. Run it from under the hood down to that level hole. When it's time, just fill it with the funnel until it drips out and replace the plug. Real 1950 old school gravely tractor tech.. If you drain all of it out you will need 1 gal of fluid. I used Valvoline MS rated from walleyworld for $17. Those are crush washers on the plugs, they are one use items so they could weep if you reuse them. I replaced them with fiber ones for oil pans from the hardware store and put teflon tape on the thread. Don't over tighten. Hard snug is fine. like the oil pan. It is a good idea to change all the fluid since you are there anyway.
I really don't understand what you mean. By unstake on the axle nut, can you elaborate? Or perhaps even could have shown a little closer as to what you were doing. Cause I've never seen anything like that before.
Not sure how well you staked that nut. I can't properly stake the axle nut with the wheel on. It's a pain, but I put the wheel on, lower the car, torque the nut, raise car, remove wheel, stake nut, then replace wheel.
very nice, subbed. 05 Prius after drivers side axle replacement; Question if I'm hearing a single click on acceleration from dead stop and another single click when coming to a stop what could be the issue? I saw in a Leaf forum that they addressed the same noise with grease on the splines in the hub side and retorqued. I didn't see you mention any grease on the splines. Thanks!

im looking at a 15 Civic with 53k miles, the history shows that axels were repaired/replaced. Is it normal for axels to need work at that mileage? thank you!

Mauvaise description à savoir que la difficulté est de sortir la barre cannelée munie d un ressort la est la difficulté. Avant de remonter il faut changer le simmering et le cardan doit être enfile avec précaution en mettant un papier pour ne pas gâter les lèvres du simmering 1x sur deux ça va couler et il faudra redemonter

I don't take the 2 bolts out of the strut assy, I take the lower ball joint apart. So you won't need an $80 alignment.

What about the transmission fluid that is dropped it ?
The gearbox oil that leaked out, was that just an optional extra done by Toyota?
