Was the output to lightning cable supposed to be in the box for the product? Just recently purchased one for myself and it only has the USB 2.0 output cable.
Great tone man! I just started playing six months ago and joined a 3-piece 90’s punk/Grunge jam band. It’s awesome to play live with a good bassist and a kick a** drummer! I’m definitely the weak link but I’m practicing. I have a THR10II and just bought a MacBook Air M2 refurbished. I just want to use it to record and lay some tracks down. I have the cable I think I can plug my Yamaha THR10II into my MacBook and use it as a DAW. That would be awesome… just a lot of technical stuff to learn along with playing the guitar. I usually just use my iPhone (voice memo app) to record my guitar. Any advice on how I could record my whole guitar practice (helps me pick out to my mistakes and clean up my playing) on the MacBook Air without hitting record everytime on GarageBand?
Hi, I’ve been a piano player for a while and literally decided today to start learning guitar. This is probably the dumbest question on this comments section, but this device does let you connect to both phone AND amplifier right? I thought it does and see no reason for it not to. I want to learn lessons through apps like simply guitar but live in university dorms, and would rather not disturb my flatmates in the other rooms around me lol. So I thought this would allow my phone to fully take in the audio from my guitar directly, without me having to play it out loud for everyone else to listen. And of course for the amp to make my guitar play the actual music. Thanks in advance.
@@PeteJohnsMusic right thanks, and if I’m using an app on my phone to learn that requires it to hear me playing the guitar, this would work? It would pick up the guitars’s notes through the cable whilst the guitar is also connected to the amp at the same time?
Will this work using the regular video recording for iPhone in case I wanted to record myself playing in good quality ? If not, what would be your best recommendation
Thx for Your video. I am using iRig HD 2 at the moment together with AmpliTube on my iPad Air 2nd. gen. Now I was wondering if I would benefit from changing to iRig Pro. Speaking of sound and connection options. The only thing I found out so far is that iRig HD 2 dos not need batteries, but iRig Pro does. And iRig Pro is more expensive. And somehow I think I have some latency issues with my IíRig HD 2.
Will we not be able to hear the guitar through the iPad with a Bluetooth connected speaker? I was hoping to use GarageBand like an amp and jam without headphones.
I use GarageBand for iPhone for all my music now. I made a music video with electric guitar using only free apps for iPhone/iPad. Check it out, drop a like if you dig it!
Thanks for the review. Just purchased one of these recently to get back into recording my own music again after so long. Used to own a ZoomR16 digital multitrack recorder but this time I wanted to utilize my iPad to record instead of rebuying another piece of pricey equipment. Awesome Ruben! Very glad that it helped my friend. It’s a wonderful time to be recording with the simple, low cost, high quality gear we have available. 👍
Hi brother. I bought one and used your video to set mine up about a year ago. It was awesome. Iam using a new PC now and Iam having problems with a lot of extra sound like cracking and popping that I didn't have before. Any ideas?
Hmmmm.... haven't come across anything like that personally? These sort of issues can often be power related though, so maybe trying a powered USB hub might be an option to consider? studiolivetoday.com/usb
Hey, you make amazing videos. Everything I’m searching comes up with your videos! Quick question, I have an iPhone XR and am looking to make recordings in GarageBand (electric, acoustic, vocals and maybe my Akai MPK). Will this product do it all? The only thing I don’t have is a microphone. Could I just pick up a SM57 or do you have another recommendation as a versatile mic. Thanks!
Yup. This will do well for everything you need. If you’re after one mic, I’d go a condenser like this one. ua-cam.com/video/9ikwgGT03BY/v-deo.htmlsi=v0LDXyOcxo1f1GM6 All my recommendations are at studiolivetoday.com/gear
So I bought an iRig and it works fine and sounds good. Problem is I've noticed a few issues when I do things like muted strums, palm muted strums, and harmonics. As far as the first two are concerned (and this goes for bringing my hand down to stop the strings from rining), there's a distinctive "chhh" kind of sound when I play muted strums and palm mute, which makes it basically impossible to record anything because that sound will be there and it sounds sloppy. I think it might be outside input noise but I don't know how to get rid of that, because the in-app mechanics in GarageBand don't seem to work. Any suggestions?
Hi there. No, devices like this only record audio generally not MIDI. There are some apps that convert guitar to MIDI. IRig devices only have a 3.5mm headphone jack. This can also be connected to speakers but the quality won’t be quite as good as an interface with dedicated audio out jacks.
Hi there, this is just what I am looking to record some guitar and bass backing tracks. As I am new to venturing into home recording a) can I record another guitar track over the one I have just recorded b) could I then record a bass line aaaaaand are there drums available? Thank you 🇬🇧
Yup 100% my friend. You can overdub as many tracks as you like when recording in iOS using this or a similar device. This video will provide more information - ua-cam.com/video/FiFerT4ULUw/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you very much. Can you also use the beat sequencer to put the drums down and then add the guitar track(s)? hello, i play clasic guitar whit pikup, and I want to make music videos with my iphon 8, without using the external microphone just, connect the amplifier's output to the iphon, is it possible with irig pro?
Hey there. Yes depending on the amp you are using. You can connect the line out in to the line in on the iRig Pro and record, though it will be in mono.
@@PeteJohnsMusic hi thanks for your availability, it is a Roland ac 33 amplifier for acoustic guitar I use it for street performances (I would use the output of the earphones). They told me that with only the trrs comector that connects to the ipohon (the iphon does not have a plug for a headphone) and a trs to trrs cable from the amplifier to the iphon and enough, is that right?
Hi Pete, one question about using the interface with my keyboard (it's a NORD). When I I connect it with Garageband using the irig pro I/O using MIDI and start recording a track using one of the NORD sound, will I see single notes that I could edit or just the envelope? And will I hear the NORD sound at all? Although it might sound a bit confusing, I still hope you can help. All the best, Guido
Hey Guido. It really depends on the keyboard itself. I’m assuming your Nord has its own sounds and a speaker? In that case you will hear those sounds when okaying and capturing MIDI. A stand-alone MIDI controller has no sounds so will only trigger the GarageBand sounds. When I’m using a keyboard with its own sounds I tend to down the volume right down so it doesn’t distract me and then monitor the sound using the iPad/iPhone. Take a look at the video to see what I mean. ua-cam.com/video/LdVAG_LwjBw/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks for the quick response! But that's not I was aiming at. Let me explain. Let's say you've got a proper synthesizer with its own sounds on it and you would like one of these sounds from this synthesizers to be recorded on a track in Garageband. Is that possible using the irig pro I/O or can I solely use the pre-installed sounds in Garageband? Thanks very much in advance!

Do you know if the iRig Pro would work if connected via usb-c adaptor? So basically if I bought a usb-c to lightening adaptor, would this work? Apple can’t seem to give me an answer, but the ipad I have has a usb c connection and nothing else…!
Yes. I use this setup currently and have tried a bunch of different USB to USB-C adapters and all have worked. Hey he only thing to consider it that it will drain your iPad battery pretty fast. A powered USB hub can help with that. ua-cam.com/video/iUJAVGHXnMs/v-deo.html
It can, but will only record mono instrument input. You’ll need something like the iRig Duo or a USB 2 channel interface for stereo recording. ua-cam.com/video/Dbz8sxuy5X0/v-deo.html
How do you hook up to the iPad Pro? It’s only a usb c connection. I have an interface that is a usb a. I bought the usb a to usb c adaptor and it doesn’t work with GarageBand on the new iPad Pro
Hey Andy. It should work fine with any USB-C to USB adapter? Perhaps it is a power issue? Because USB-C is a standard format (unlike Lightning which is proprietary), you can use any brand adapter in theory, so perhaps look for one which provides power as well as USB and other ports?
@@PeteJohnsMusic Hi Pete, ok only ask as iPad Pro usb c port is 3.1 connectivity so are you saying the audio interface definitely works with this iPad Pro then?
Question, I use IRIg Pro.. My instrument is saxophone and I want to record with backing tracks When I use it I put my headphones ... The mic doesn't work.. So how will I figure it out? I want my mic to pick up my sound Not the headphones That's my problem

Hey Pete, please suggest me some good low latency budget speakers for live monitoring on irig pro io. I connected it with my bose speakers and it is giving higher latency than normal headphones.
Oh really? That’s very strange. I use either headphones or just my headphones (Sennheiser HD280). I have heard that these little Presonus monitors are really good form a few folks - amzn.to/37D6USA
Hey there. You would likely want the “duo” version which has two inputs so you can record a stereo signal from the PA. But yes, this can record a line input from a PA. Kits be very careful to set the output and input gain (volume) correctly.
Hi Pete. I have this unit and just want to use the output of my PA mix straight into the unit and then into my iPhone for a live feed. I am finding the output volume is quite low - the listeners can barely hear it. With headphones i can hear the output quite loud. I am running iRig record in the background before I stream. If i record the stream and play it back to myself with the iRig record running it is low volume output. When i turn the app off - volume output is ok. - any way to increase the volume with the app running in the background ? Any help appreciated. Cheers Joe
Hmmmm.... hard to troubleshoot these sort of things from afar? The problem is likely that the iRig Pro is designed for instrument and mic signals but not really for line level signals which may explain the volume issues. Ideally you’d want an interface that has a dedicated stereo line input.
Hey there. If you’re looking to plug a mic in to an iRig that doesn’t have the XLR input it also probably does not have a preamp. So you’re right that technically it will “work”, but you’ll get a very low and probably poor quality signal. Check out this video for some more information. ua-cam.com/video/xUsXWo7Liaw/v-deo.html
Hey there. Yes, I realised o never returned to show this in a video! The mic preamp is great. Nice and clear with low noise. Here’s a song where all vocals were recorded using this - ua-cam.com/video/s7SIqiPgatA/v-deo.html
It's ok to have a little orange. How ever would have been better if it was colored blue, orange, green then red . Because orange is right before the clipping. And it's hard for me to tell . Because the orange and red on the thing mesh together in such a way it's hard to tell them apart some times
The iPad speaker doesn’t work once you plug-in an audio interface like the irig. To get sound you need to either use headphones or you can connect to an amp or speaker via the line outs. I use just one line out which goes to my amp input (on clean) sounds pretty good, hope that helps!
@@JasonCorea Hey, do you get any latency when playing out through the amp?, I'm planning on getting the irig pro i/o and stick it to the aux in on my amp since I don't own any decent headphones or speakers, but I'm worried about the delay.

Not sure what's happening there sorry? Maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group at createrecordreleaae.com, or the Discord group here - studiolivetoday.com/discord.
Pete please tell me the best AMP setting for a 10 dollar irig to have clean voice with acoustic guitar..the output lwvwls and master levels too
It really depends on too many factors such as the type of guitar, type of music etc. It all really comes down to trial and error.
@@PeteJohnsMusic OK But still😓 i havea acoustic guitar having equalizer in it..Does the battery life also..makes an impact?/ Please sugges tthe best setting according to you..for acoustic guitar ..
I like it. My biggest problem isn't the interface but rather the fact that I can't actually play lead guitar.
Haha! You and me both buddy. There’s a reason why all my “solos” have sounded the same for the past 25 years. 😄
Hi Pete why do I have a brillant fat Metal Sound on the headphone while i am editing the ampsound but when i press Record the Power is lost.thanx for your reply- if you find the Time- greetings from Germany
That’s a good question my friend. I might some more information to understand what is happening here. So, you are getting a good time when monitoring but not when recording?

Pete Johns subbed immediately after the video! You’re doing great things!
Was the output to lightning cable supposed to be in the box for the product? Just recently purchased one for myself and it only has the USB 2.0 output cable.
Yes; the iRig Pro I/O should have USB and Lightning. If not you might need to contact the seller.
How does the garage band sims compare to those in boss me 80 or zoom 3n?
I personally think the GarageBand amp sims are pretty darn cool! ua-cam.com/video/vbdxE-mEDCM/v-deo.html&feature=shares
Hey there! So, I really like the audio record on AudioShare which might be an option to explore. ua-cam.com/video/FjEZMS8QUuQ/v-deo.html
Hey there. So yes, it has a headphone output which you can send to headphones or indeed monitor speakers or an amp. 👍
@@PeteJohnsMusic right thanks, and if I’m using an app on my phone to learn that requires it to hear me playing the guitar, this would work? It would pick up the guitars’s notes through the cable whilst the guitar is also connected to the amp at the same time?
You could do it that way or go in to the amp and send the signal out to the iRig. There is also the iRig HD2 which has a guitar throughout connection.
@@PeteJohnsMusic right thank you so much ☺️
I have a guitar cord with a USB do I need the Irig to hook it it
Those cables are a little dodgy to be honest. The iRig replaces everything. You just need a regular guitar cable and a pair of headphones.
Will this work using the regular video recording for iPhone in case I wanted to record myself playing in good quality ? If not, what would be your best recommendation
Yup. You’ll get good quality audio for the camera app.
Will this also plug into my iMac vs my iPad?
Yup. All the recent models have USB, USB-C and Lightning so work with everything. studiolivetoday.com/gear
Hi, is there any way I can use the Rig Pro for live performances? Or is it a device used primarily for recording?
I would check out the iRig Stream Pro for streaming. This is definitely more focused on recording.
Thank you, Pete!

Hi Pete. What's the brand and model of your guitar?
Hey there my friend. It’s the Taylor 110e. Amazing guitar for the price! You can find a link to it and all my gear here. studiolivetoday.com/gear
Hey there. I’m not sure that the iRig Pro I/O would be a significant upgrade from the HD as far an audio quality goes.
Will we not be able to hear the guitar through the iPad with a Bluetooth connected speaker? I was hoping to use GarageBand like an amp and jam without headphones.
Unfortunately not. You’ll need to plug a wired speaker in to the headphone jack.
There’d be some bad latency if you could
I use GarageBand for iPhone for all my music now. I made a music video with electric guitar using only free apps for iPhone/iPad. Check it out, drop a like if you dig it!
Great to hear. GarageBand is definitely an awesome way to record. 👍
Nice. See , this viddy sold me the iRig pro
It's a really useful piece of kit. I still use my iRig Pro Duo to this day.
Thanks for the review. Just purchased one of these recently to get back into recording my own music again after so long. Used to own a ZoomR16 digital multitrack recorder but this time I wanted to utilize my iPad to record instead of rebuying another piece of pricey equipment. I was curious if an electric guitar>iRig>iPad was feasible and you totally summed it all up for me within this very helpful video. Thank you so much!!
Awesome Ruben! Very glad that it helped my friend. It’s a wonderful time to be recording with the simple, low cost, high quality gear we have available. 👍
Both my ipad and iphone both tell me they cannot power this irig when I plug it in. Any ideas why?
That’s really odd?! You are sure it’s a genuine iRig? studiolivetoday.com/gear
If you dont want to use headphones can you use the sound from the ipad or if you have a laptop, or the sound is gonna be bad?
It can be done, but unfortunately you'll get quite a lot of "bleed" - ua-cam.com/video/EcI1tPC4P34/v-deo.html
Where is the audio coming from? is it coming from the iPad?
The headphone jack on the iRig. studiolivetoday.com/gear
Does anyone know how to do this with a Roland drum kit? I still can’t find a good tutorial.
Using a Roland drum kit with GarageBand? I have a tutorial on this coming soon (with my Alesis kit but same sort of thing).

If you’re after one mic, I’d go a condenser like this one. ua-cam.com/video/9ikwgGT03BY/v-deo.htmlsi=v0LDXyOcxo1f1GM6

You don't need the latest and greatest, but something from the last 5 years is probably best. My iPad guide here might help - studiolivetoday.com/ipad
Wow this is so nice. Can i use this thing for live performance directly to a mixer?
Yes, if you send the 3.5mm headphone output to a stereo channel you can.
@@PeteJohnsMusic awesome. Thanks Pete.
Im trying to sing with a sm58 and an almost ready to give up
This is like my 10th video all just to use GBand with irig for vacals
Hmmmm…. Interesting one? Haven’t come across that personally. Maybe send me some more details and a sample? pete@studiolivetoday.com
@@PeteJohnsMusic Will do. I’ll send it over by tomorrow. Thanks man!
Have you tried connecting a speaker and using tonebridge with the Irig?
Not specifically, but I have used other amp sims and played through speakers.
How did you download garageband? Wen I try it tells me that I need ios 15, but I have ios 13 on my iPad Pro 12.9-inch. And by the way grate video.
The latest version does need iOS 15 of you don’t already have a version installed. Might need to update.
Can you correct the bum notes played? And how to collect irig to the 2 studio monitors?
Hi there. No, devices like this only record audio generally not MIDI. There are some apps that convert guitar to MIDI.
IRig devices only have a 3.5mm headphone jack. This can also be connected to speakers but the quality won’t be quite as good as an interface with dedicated audio out jacks.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks!

hello, i play clasic guitar whit pikup, and I want to make music videos with my iphon 8, without using the external microphone just, connect the amplifier's output to the iphon, is it possible with irig pro?
The iRig Pro Duo has a USB-C cable included. Or you can use an adapter from USB.

Hi Pete,
one question about using the interface with my keyboard (it's a NORD).
Gotcha! Yes, you can simply connect the analog output from the synth in to the instrument jack on the iRig. I show this method with similar devices in this video - ua-cam.com/video/KxNC6MZ_rvo/v-deo.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic That was exactly what I was aiming at! Thank you so much for your help!! Al the best, Guido

No, but you can just us the USB-A cable included and a USB-A to USB-C adapter.
I have an iRig Stream and when I turn off monitoring in garageband my guitar sound still comes in, so loud that I can't hear the drums I'm playing along with. haven't figure out a solution yet. I'm sure it's user error. Anyone have a similar experience and could solve this for me?

Do you know if the iRig Pro would work if connected via usb-c adaptor? So basically if I bought a usb-c to lightening adaptor, would this work? Apple can’t seem to give me an answer, but the ipad I have has a usb c connection and nothing else…!
Yes. I use this setup currently and have tried a bunch of different USB to USB-C adapters and all have worked. Hey he only thing to consider it that it will drain your iPad battery pretty fast. A powered USB hub can help with that. ua-cam.com/video/iUJAVGHXnMs/v-deo.html

Hi Tom,
Great video. I would love to do this with my keyboard, is it possible to connect speakers instead of headphones for the output audio?
Thanks!
Hey there. Yes, any speakers or audio output device which supports a 3.5mm stereo input will work.
Can this IRIG work within a PA and record a full band?
Hey there. You would likely want the “duo” version which has two inputs so you can record a stereo signal from the PA. But yes, this can record a line input from a PA. Kits be very careful to set the output and input gain (volume) correctly.
Is it possible to.get the sound right out of the iPad itself? I can only get sound if I use headphones.
Hey there. Unfortunately you will need headphones or some sort of speaker with a 3.5mm input jack to play back audio.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks for the prompt reply mate.

I'd like to use 1/4 inch cable to XLR for vocal recording. This should work in theory, right?
Hi - any word on the quality of the signal for recording vocals using the XLR input? Thanks, love your vids

It's ok to have a little orange. How ever would have been better if it was colored blue, orange, green then red . Because orange is right before the clipping. And it's hard for me to tell . Because the orange and red on the thing mesh together in such a way it's hard to tell them apart some times
Yeah. I guess with digital it’s better to be lower than higher when it comes to gain.
I have the iRig Pro Duo and don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Hooked everything up had signal but no sound
You have headphones plugged in to the headphone jack on the IRig?
Pete Johns no I was using the iPad speaker to monitor
The iPad speaker doesn’t work once you plug-in an audio interface like the irig. To get sound you need to either use headphones or you can connect to an amp or speaker via the line outs. I use just one line out which goes to my amp input (on clean) sounds pretty good, hope that helps!
@@JasonCorea Hey, do you get any latency when playing out through the amp?, I'm planning on getting the irig pro i/o and stick it to the aux in on my amp since I don't own any decent headphones or speakers, but I'm worried about the delay.
Pete, have you ever used a Zoom U-24 Handy Audio Interface? And if so how does it compare to the iRig Pro I/O (or DUO)? I'm torn between the two.
Hey David. I haven’t used one and have heard generally good things. The reason I went for the iRig over the Zoom is that I had heard reports of the preamps ok the Zoom being a little noisy. Been testing the iRig today and has been pretty quiet.
Pete Johns excellent! Thank you. BTW...more Spotify songs please!
Pete, when you talk about using irig products on the iPad, make sure that you specify if it’s apple or Samsung iPad, becoz irig products for guitar has a ligh port on Samsung and USB c on iPad Pro apple! Not the same ports size

The guitar amp sim turns the raw guitar sound in to the analogies sound which is then played back through the headphone jack on the iRig.
