    a 22mm holesaw is also common for a sparky. Its what i use as an industrial electrician to mount push buttons and lights into control cabinets.

    The 1/4 inch shank drill bits are better used in a chuck drill to have less slip between the drills jaws and the bit. Dont use 1/4" shank drill bits in an impact, especially on steel. The impacts will completely fuck the drill bits cutting edge, likely shatter. 👍🏻

    Hey Corey,
    What are your thoughts on starting an Electrician Apprenticeship 1st year doing Solar work?
    I'm a mature age, wanting to do my apprenticeship. At the moment I'm thinking that I just get my foot in the door to get any type of experience. But I'm really hoping to be exposed to a wide variety of Electrician work, so I hope the company doesn't make me just do work on Solar. Just want to know your thoughts. Thanks!

    • @coreybruhn
      @coreybruhn  Рік тому +5

      I think solar is the best way to get your foot in the door as people don't wanna do it. You'll be mostly just labour at the beginning lifting panels all day but if you show initiative you'll be learning all aspects of the trade in no time

    Great video! I see other electrician UA-cam videos and they never give the name of the bits they use. I know what I'm looking for now, thanks.

    Good video mate, I was just going to add watch those auger bits, they’re a great thing but if they bite in the timber they’ll whip the drill around in your hands and take you with it and it’s hurts ha

    fantastic video and very valuable content for an aspiring electrician! Quick question re what chuck drill to get as an fresh apprentice?I'm going for m12 surge impact so wondering if a m12 drill would also be okay or do you need to step it up to 18 volt, appreciate your input! Cheers

    • @coreybruhn
      @coreybruhn  Рік тому +1

      Cheers! I've always used an 18V chuck drill so I don't have any exerience with the 12V version, however I don't think theres anything wrong with going with the cheaper option. Maybe look up some comparison videos and see what others say

      @@blairwilson9272 I have both, If you can afford it and have the batteries I would go the 18v drill, my m12 drill sometimes strugges with anything larger than a 20mm spade bit. I think Addicted to tools did a video on it, but from personal experience as a first year sparky, the extra power of the m18 just makes it the drill I reach for when I need a chuck drill

      @@ryanmackie1484 Sweet as! I really appreciate your advice, will check out the vid from Addicted to Tools too, cheers! Oh btw do you use spade bits often? I was considering just getting an auger bits set

    • @ryanmackie1484
      @ryanmackie1484 Рік тому +2

      @@blairwilson9272 i have a set of the irwin auger bits, they cut decent, but I am a huge fan of the diablo spade bits, use them daily. They have a screw tip on the end, kind of like the auger bits, and seem to last for a long time, I have used my 20mm one daily for about 2 months and still cuts unreal. I tend to use the spade bits more often than the auger bits, because the diablos are quicker and easier for me as my auger bit wanted to have a fight with a nail and now cuts a bit rough. I would highly recommend the diablo spade bits, but the irwin auger bits are good as well. I think the diablo spade bits are around $11? So a few more dollars than a regular spade but but so much better

      Not in general. Only when specified such as for fire rating.

      Pretty much what andrewclarkey said!
      In our wiring rules, clause 3.10.1.1 Exception 2 states: Wiring enclosures need not be provided for insulated, unsheathed cables installed in an enclosed wall cavity between an accessory and a wiring enclosure or sheathing terminated within 100 mm of the hole over or within which the accessory is mounted

    I like the videos, but impact driver for everything. Is a bad habit. Terminals and on rcbos and circuit breaks is not a good look..

    • @coreybruhn
      @coreybruhn  Рік тому +2

      Yeah another comment mentioned this, impact drivers on terminal screws is a pretty common practice though. As long as you have your impact on setting 1 there's no way you're gonna break the terminal screw. I always then tighten the screw further with a flatty or phillips head screwdriver 👍

    Hi Corey,
    Would you like to take on a bit paid consultation job with me.
    I have been thinking to change my career path for quite awhile and electrician is alway the occupation on the top of my list.
    I’m in Geelong, but relocating to Queensland in a few weeks time.
    If you can spend an hour with me would be enough.
    For sure, I’d pay generously.
    Simply just wanna have someone that I feel that we are in the same channel to talk to.
