I saw Grace Potter and the Nocturnals perform on David Letterman 12 years ago. We were watching late night TV, and then this performance, wow!!! I still periodically watch this video. So good. I remember at the time, David Letterman's music director, Paul Shaffer, reacted with such respect. He said about the performance, that's the way to "bring it".
Great performance, per usual. When she was younger, there is a fantastic live performance with Grace and Joe Satriani doing "Cortez the Killer." I don't even mind Grace's more recent duet with Kenny Chesney. The girl has got talent.
i love her drummer. he looks like he's having the time of his life everytime he's playing. which he prabaly is. refreshing seeing a band actually look like they're having a goodtime up there.
You know how you fall asleep on the sofa watching tv, but you wake up just in time to catch something AMAZING, something you'll NEVER forget, something that you would have hated yourself for if you missed it? Well... that's what happen to me the night I saw this performance on Letterman. I remember waking up just in time to miss hearing Letterman say their name, so I had no clue who this band was, but THE SECOND she began to sing I sat straight up and said... MY GOD THIS WOMAN IS RAW!!! I'm a huge fan of 70's & 80's female rockers with BIG POWERFUL VOICES, like Ann Heart and Pat Benatar, and Grace definitely remind me of that era. #RockOnSista!!!
Grace really is a special talent. And the Noc's aren't bad either! Nice to hear some fresh rock-n-roll with some blues and soul. Her passion for her music really elevates their live performances. Luv you guys!! :)
Saw Grace Potter and the Nocturnals way back when they were first doing gigs in colleges and small venues ~ she's got so much talent and the band just keeps getting better and better!! Go see her perform live, you won't be disappointed!!
I'm in a state of shock at the moment. I;ve known Benny (guitarist on stage left) from back in the day. He was always good and always humble. Can't believe he's up there with her. Go Benny you Rock! brother.
I am so grateful that one of the "Voice" contestants covered Grace's new "Stars" song, so I was introduced to this amazing talent! I'm just starting to check out her songs, and have already bought a couple on itunes. Please support her - she is awesome!
I think her hot bassist is now playing in the band with Cher? Check out some of Cher's new video's from the D2K tour and tell me if you also think it's Cat? Either way I would never throw Grace out of bed...or maybe I would 'cause there's more room on the floor...LoL?
@thetractorjockey I LOVE that sound. And Jack White doesn't cover anything with effects. He uses less effects than almost anyone else in the rock music scene (only distortion and whammy). just because a guitarist doesn't play intricately woven strings of ridiculously fast notes does not mean they aren't a good guitarist. There is more passion in a messy sounding improvised solo then there ever could be in one of those dueling guitar super fast shred solos
@Napco205 I'm assuming by your reference to the one line in this one song being "lame song writing" that you probably have acquired numerous awards for songwriting and could enlighten us on just what exactly is excellent songwriting? I see you didn't quote any of the rest of the song, or any of their other songs so I assume you only listened to that particular part of the song and assumed it was the entire song, which is the only way a REASONABLE person could come to such a conclusion.
Go listen to Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Joe Walsh guys who weren't technically great but who were monster players that shook buildings. My band is a lot like Grace Potter, if a guy came up on stage and started shredding I would turn his amp of and ask him to leave....and I have done that in the past.
@Napco205 Don't get me wrong, you can have your opinion, just don't expect to display your opinion,as idiotic a one as it may be, and not have it rejected, as you quite obviously did in the comments on this video. The point I tried to make in my last comment to you, was that you pointed out ONE line in ONE song and did nothing to prove your point as to why that is any basis for saying that no one would want to rock out to this. I challenge you to listen to their other songs.
GET GRACE CAT BENNY AND SCOTT BACK TOGETHER ILL PLAY BASE IF MIKE CANT MAKE IT ONE LAST TOUR PLEASE BUT NOT THE CELEBRITY THEATER.IN PHOENIX IT ROTATES HOPING TO GO TO TELLURIDE WITH GRACE ZZ WARD ND LARKIN POEMY 3 FAVORITE BANDS OUT OF FOUR. THE FOURTH BIENG BRUCE AND THE E ST BAND 3 OUT OF 4 HIGHLIGHT OF MY LIFE AND I AM 69 YEARS OLD TODAY BUT STILL ROCKING AND I HAVE TO SEE THIS SHOW
I said I liked the song. And I'm sorry but where were you when you typed that reply? Scubadiving were you? I stand by what I said, good song, bad lyrics, no need for a third guitar.
Jack White IS a great guitarist. He just isn't your kind of guitarist. When I was going to GIT Jack was greatly appreciated in all of the halls. When you are sitting across from Paul GIlbert or Allen Hinds and you are jamming on White Stripe stuff while discussing harmony you realize that Jack isn't a joke.
@bloodread I guess I need to be Bob Dylan, to have an opinion. You either began listening to music from 1990 on up & are completely clueless to quality music, if you even have to ask. Apparently you can't recognize and distinguish the difference to what quality written songs sound like vs.predictable generic cliche wannabe rock star garbage! But,..don't be discouraged to rocking out to Ooo La La, Grace Potter!! lol
My oh my Grace have mercy! What a complete package of talent.
