I recently picked up Inception 4K UHD blu-ray for 50 cents during the 50% off sale at the thrift store near my house. Doesn't matter what it is. 4K, 3D, BR and DVDs are automatically $1 including boxsets. I picked up the entire Game of Thrones 4K boxset for 50 cents last year and gave it to my friend for Christmas. When he unwrapped it he couldn't believe his eyes. Last week I picked up the Audio Murphy Kino Lorber Collection on blu-ray with the box and the complete Rockford Files on DVD for 50 cents each.

@@HucksPopCultureCafe They don't always have blu-rays but 3 sales ago they had an entire shelf and I picked up 13 of them for $5.50 and 12 DVDs for $6. The reason why the blu-rays were cheaper was because of the 3 movie Audie Murphy boxset. I started telling a few people about the thrift store but thought I should shut my mouth when they started getting 4K Blu-rays in. I think I've gotten around 20 from the store. Most of the 4K blu-rays have been not on sale but for a Canadian Loonie you cannot complain. Even got The Hobbit trilogy 4K and it was still sealed.
Great job Huck! This is exactly what I preach as well! Sometimes it’s just a better deal and value to go with the older release. Especially if not sure on the film, it’s a great way to watch for cheap. Building collections much easier to do this way too!
Amen, brother! New stuff is cool but I just fattened up my collection with a bunch of titles for less than the price of The Prestige on 4K.

Huck, awesome pickups! I have that same Alfred Hitchcock DVD set and you’re right, the picture quality is what it is (pretty bad) but it’s a great way to check out a lot of his lesser known films. A good number of these films are on Criterion blu-ray and based on how they look on that DVD set in comparison gives one an even greater appreciation for the amazing restoration work being done on these older films and presented on blu-ray and 4K today for us to gobble up 😂. Enjoy!
Yea I popped in one and it was horrible looking. Made it so hard to watch I pulled it out and watched Lifeboat from Kino instead. Soooooo good. First time watch on that.

Keep in mind that many older movies aren't always 2 hours long. Some Hitchcock movies could be barely over an hour long.

I have a list i keep on my phone of what movies I want to upgrade from DVD to Blu Ray and I'm always on the hunt at thrift stores because the prices for some of the older movies on ebay are stupid high

it's weird seeing criterion movies on dvd. nowadays its all Criterion blurays with 4k. i only have the night of the living dead; Videodrome ; malcolm x ; Wall E ; thelma and louise criterions ans dazed and confused criterion too
Those are good ones. And it's weird that some of these titles that were only on DVD have yet to get a blu-ray upgrade with Criterion, like Chasing Amy.
