Well I'm quite new to this (started running in feb) my best road time which was about 3 months earlier was about 1.48. After seeing Sage and Ginner I knew i wanted to run trails so I left the road and have spent the last 3 months running on hills. It had 2200 feet of gain or where i'm from 700 meters and it took me 1.52.12
I’ve been running 47 years and have done a number of marathons and ultras. I’m about 2 1/2 weeks out from an ultra that has been on my radar for a long time. This is a great video, and some of the best advice I’ve heard in years. Great job!
The key message here is everybody is different and different things work for different people. The secret is to experiment and find out what works for you, don't copy someone else's plan. Also I prefer to work on time ran not distances i.e. if you usually run for 3 hours a week then cut down the time you run to suit, forgetting about miles or kilometers. Also as you age rest becomes even more important than when you are younger. Tapering is more than cutting down the miles or time, it's your sleep, diet etc as Sage mentioned. As for the comments about getting faster what most people don't realize is that the body system changes take years not weeks or months so persistence and consistency is the key. Be patient!
Lake City is beautiful! I've never even talked with anyone else who's ever heard of it. The first time I was there I made it to the top of Uncompahgre too 👍
Fellrnr recommends not running below race pace during the week before the race, but reducing the mileage. Had pretty good results with embedding a short race pace distance between short warm up & cool downs during taper week, then sitting in airports all day before the race.
I don't know what distance/events Fellrnr does, but as mentioned it depends on race distance a bit. For example, considering my next race is a mountain 100-miler, virtually every run I do (including very easy days) is at a pace faster than "race pace." Even those racing 50km-50-miles on trails most runs are going to be at a pace faster than what those can race at. Now when you get down to road marathons and shorter races that obviously changes...
What does your camping set-up look like on these trips? A video on your mobile running headquarters would be neat to see. I drove out to CO from PA this summer and spent most nights in the National Forest camping out of my car and such. Great channel, keep up the good work.
It's true :) before my first half marathon I only race 2 times in that week, both them easy run :) During the race, I felt fine and fresh :D Awesome videos and advices
Hey Sage, My goal is sub 3. With my first and only marathon of 3:37:05 and 8k PR of 33:59, how long might it take to go sub 3 and what initial steps should I take to get there? I'm 22 years old Thank you!
1 - Listen to your coach bro 2 - Just run and keep running smart as well as eat clean, youre young and to get 6:25 is really easy(like you legit dont need any effort besides eating good and running)
nice time! It takes some years probably...you may still be growing as well! A natural progression in volume (But don't get hurt!). Stay healthy and be patient. Don't force the progression, but slowly increase training and workouts over months and months (and years).
dmills as a fellow freshman who can run a mile in under 5:00, there are three things I can recommend. The first is to train regularly at high intensity but no so often that you will become injured and have to miss training days. The second is to eat healthy, and the third is to take up weight training. For longer distance, weight trading may not be super vital but for a short distance such as the mile it can be extremely beneficial. I got much fester when I started weight training. Keep pushing
this might be surprising but for me I do high intensity cycling for 20mins a day leading up to a race with one day off before the race. No impact and I feel like it gets me used to the pain on race day
A HUgh I ride a bike to and from work. And again for lunch. I make it very high intensity because I’m always late trying to wait to the last possible moment to go to work. It has definitely positively impacted my running. And because I’m a runner. I can bike to work hella fast. It’s a win, win. And a win because I don’t have to pay for gas. Put in 1,000 miles on a $30 bicycle.
Hmmmmmm. I probably should have watched this video 4 weeks before my race instead of 4 days before it. At least I won't go out and try to kill it 2 days before, like I was planning!
I run 5000 meters everyday, my race is on 10 february.. how many days i should take rest and what to do on rest days?? it’s important for my career plz suggest
I appreciate all of the advice you freely share with we youtubers, as one who is getting back into running your videos are gold
I was running about 35-40 miles a week. My last week I ran about 12 miles. Felt unbelievable on race day
It was my first trail 1/2

Very good tips. Currently in the process within 3 weeks for my race. I think I almost ready for race day but being cautious.
This is not impeccable timing, this is flat out telepathy Sage, thank you so much!

Great tips! Running my first marathon and plan on cutting my mileage down 4-3 weeks out until the week of and run small distances :)

Hi coach sage. What if 2 weeks before the race you suffering cough and flu.. Like me today I have 1 week left before my first hundred miles.
Fantastic
Sage! I live in gunnison! It's like the closest thing to Lake City! 😁

In your opening, what is the location/river with the nice path beside it?
You know it's a good start if you talk about where are you now with a smug face!
