You are so right about the gum. I hate to be a buttinski but child psychologists recommend you give tantrums the least attention you can. I suspect you are just keeping the conversation flowing for the video. If everytime one if your children has a meltdown you explain ONE TIME the rule and then ignore the tantrumingchild, not engage in more bargaining than a union rep with staff threatening walkout. This exchange will let your little girl know she has the power and if she wants attention, here's a way to get it. Sorry to be a pesky know it all. I hope you were just hamming it up for the video. Your little girl is lovely by the way, even when she's screaming bloody murder for gum.
The mom is scared because little kids are too young fur gum it doesn’t mean this girl won’t love her mom, she can have other treats & she will feel all better & good if she have candy getting her mind out of gum!
Just give her something to cry for!! She’s far too old for a gum tantrum! Stop talking to her. It just becomes a power struggle. In the end she still gets something that reinforced that tantrum. this is a normal behaviour for her, because she has to hold out until the mom offers her something that will be a trade off for the gum. Your guilt is really interfering with your rule of no gum. You can’t see yourself being so mean to her, so you power struggle your way to a compromise. The child wins and you appease your guilt. And she will continue to have tantrums until she embarrasses you or she embarrasses herself and you’ll both outgrow this ridiculous game.
