Another week, another video. : ) Let me know what you think and what you would like to see! Would you like a updated workshop tour? Upcoming there is a new vibratory tumbler video.
Man that window is a smart idea!!!!!
I HAVE FIGURED OUT THE WINDOW IN THE VIDEO. It's called a tilt and turn window and he said in one of the comments before that it's 90cm by 60cm
Thats it. Here in Europe its just called a window. I guess in America it would be called European Style.
Oh WOW! I would love a work shop one day so that I can build things just like this. Nice job Max! You inspired me to get creative with my enclosure.
Thanks! I am sure one day you can have one. Probably sooner than you think.
But.. There's a Lack table right there at the end!!XD The window is really neat. I'm trying to figure out what to do about enclosure and ventilation for the Anycubic Photon that we just ordered.
K.😮 4:41
That's a fantastic enclosure, Max, and this is a timely video for me. My old 3D printer broke in May. It would have been easy to fix, but it seemed like a good excuse to upgrade, so I ordered a Prusa MK3S. It got here two days ago. 10 weeks later! :)
Your idea to use a real window for the door is amazing, but you're making me feel like an old man. I can't have things sitting that close to the ground anymore!
I think you will love your new printer! Initially I thought I would hang it up at the wall in the utility room. But then I thought It could live in the guest room for now. Higher up would be a luxury.
Once you get a domino or dowel joiner you'll more than likely rarely ever use the biscuit again. Most a biscuit joiner is good for is setting. But you can do that with squares and clamps with the same results.
The window idea is awesome! I wouldn't have thought of that in years
Amazing idea. I’ve searched for ideas for a printer enclosure and this is the best solution I’ve seen so far. Fireproofnes however is an important point for me, since I’m using a chinese printer. I will glue some 2mm Aluminium to all surfaces on the inside to improve it a bit.
Windows in a small size like 40x60cm cost around 40€ online, never expected them to be so cheap.
I never run it without a person at home. It sits in the kids room, (no kids yet) so we practice checking on it.
This is so ridiculously extra--I absolutely love it!
Thanks for this video, this is a fantastic build. I may build something similar, but with two changes. 1. Exhaust fan and tube to vent the enclosure out the window (since micro plastic dust from FDM printers is real, and can be a serious health hazard over time), and, 2. Mount the accessories holder and extra filament outside (top or side). Thank you for the inspiration!
Good idea! The way it is its completely air tight, but of course you open it at some point. A filter would be nice, but you need to avoid a draft as well. So maybe one that vents only when its done.
Baltic birch plywood. I love that stuff. Heavy and straight. Not your standard douglas fir plywood. EDIT: For those looking for ventilation that's quiet and cheap, I've used (in the USA) 8 inch duct elbow (90 degrees), 8 inch "back draft blocker" (so wind from outside doesn't push printing fumes indoors, and the Amazon Basics 3 speed small Room Air fan 7-inch. If you remove the stand of the fan, you have a perfect 8" circular fan that will fit inside the ducting.
I have the official Prusa Enclosure and I need to soundproof it. The i3 MK3S+ isn't as quiet as I wanted, it is quiet but I live in an apartment complex. This week I'm going to buy a paver brick and I have some foam for it, going to try that. If it needs anything more than that I might add some foam to the inside, nothing thick, it won't need much beyond the paver brick I think. The PLA I'm using also has an odor but I have the air filter on pre-order for that.
I should have just made my own, I mean my Dad has a wood shop I could have used that has all the tools and more that you showed, just not the manual forklift, that is amazing. Oh well, I have a second printer I haven't assembled yet, I'll go to the Habitat for Humanity story here, it is used construction materials, look for a window like the one you had and build around it. That is brilliant and there are always those kind of windows there. I could make one like yours for the bottom printer and then put the Pursa enclosure on top of it and then I can wheel them around. My dad even has some heavy duty casters like you used!
I love how germans say 'that guy' 'that man'
Super Idee.
Really good idea and project. I think I will make a similar enclosure. But I really had to laugh as I saw the Lack-Tisch in your guest room!
Don't store the filament or printed parts inside of it. Heat will degrade them, especially if you are printing with filaments like polyoxymethaline which requires high heat
I really liked the idea of having the filament all on a spool ready to go. What was it doing or not doing that caused you to change that?
German windows are so cool
The guest room certainly looks like an engineers room lmao
The way you made it is really nice, Love that idea.
But for me... I would have made a bed before I made a printer enclosure :-)
Thought about making a bed, settled for buying one because those bed pieces are heavy and difficult to manouver around for my liking.
Now *that* is an enclosure!😀👍👍
This is exactly what I thinked of! Now i know that idea was good and i can go straight to making my own 3d printer cabinet.
Good luck!
Your videos are so relaxing and fun to watch, I love everything about it
The Window is amazing ;-) I like it
It saved a lot of time and money. I don´t like acrylic, so I would have probably bought polycarbonate which would have roughly cost the same if you add some hinges as well. With this the whole construction was much easier. Thanks for watching!
@@MaxMakerChannel I made my box from Ikea Lack, because it was easy, cheap (all cost only cca 30€) and you doesn´t need any special hardware or workroom, but you idea was really great! You inspired me. Now I need only some free time.... ;-) Thank you for your nice videos!
@@juraj_redeky Thanks for watching! I considered building the Lack enclosure. But I wanted to use the time before I had the printer in hands, so printing any parts was out of the question and IKEA was closed of course. So It was a easy decision and I also had time to do it. The main factor for me was that I wanted airtight doors.
You can get fire protected ply
Oh what is Germany without Excel, squirt bottle Silicon and a flex saw.
awesome Idea with the Window. I am planning to build something simmilar!
That's cool. I need a 3d printer now 😊
You should move the electronics and psu outside or add a small, cooled compartment to store them in.
The PSU is outside.
this enclosure can only work with a non-heating bed.
I use a broken-down fridge, for my Ender3, but if I close the door during the print, the temperature rises, and the print goes bad.
i built one too. it seems that with hot bed, the print goes bad, indeed. i am thinking about installing a fan in the rear to make enter fresh air.
Perfectly fine on mine.
@@MaxMakerChannel do u print with pla and heated bed? I just tried to print in cold bed to see what happens
Always with a heated bed. Without it warps horribly.
@@MaxMakerChannel well, my printer doesn't print properly without air. Dunno why, but now it work like a Charme. Cheers
That's such a great build! What size is the window you used?
Thanks! Its 60x90cm.
So genial gemacht!
"I am not a student, do not want anymore Ikea in my life"
At that point, Central to Eastern Europe was offended :(
Central Europe here.
Outstanding 👍👍👍
Great door idea!
I was looking to make a similar enclosure using a window but cant find anything that is similar for under $250. Anyone have any suggestions for finding one in the states?
coole idee mit dem fenster
Really nice. GREAT JOB!!
Cool welcome from India 👌👌👌👌👌
great! i have to make one for my garage. i just wonder: no ventilation at all? no air change? isn't it dangerous for a 3d printer?
The printer doesn´t care about fresh air. The enclosure is large enough that it doesn´t get warmer than about 35-40°C. The power supply is outside the enclosure.
@@MaxMakerChannel thank you for the reply! i have a geeetech A20, wonder if i will be able to eliminate all noise.
@@asici2 The Triac Stepper drivers make a big difference in noise. If your printer doesn´t have those chips you might be able to upgrade them. Otherwise the concrete base on foam makes a big difference.
@@MaxMakerChannel thank u
@@MaxMakerChannel hi max. i built one too. but it seems that with all closed, the printer have printing issues. could it be due to high temperature inside the enclosure? maybe a pc fan could make the situation better? thank u!
lol is that a Lack table next to the enclosure at the end?
Great idea, looks nice, i like it!
I like it. Do you think a temperature controlled exhaust fan could be a good addition to keep the temperature stable? Or would the increase in noise escaping be a deal breaker for you?
A pc fan would be plenty and not be very noisy. However, the temperature doesn´t go above 45°C when I print PLA. And if it did, I could slightly open the window. Its a German window, so there is a setting for opening it just a bit.
This looks Cool but i have a question is how about air flow inside? what happened if this printer get overheated?
I don’t know what would happens if it overheats, but the energy going in from the heater and the energy leaving the cabinet equalise at about 40°. So its ok.
@@MaxMakerChannel Thanks for sharing this information I will make same box like urs soon but i will add cooling fan in case my house get on fire.
Sorry one more question, i know a part called hot bed need to be hot temperature, but power supply needs to be cool down, and E3d v6 HotEnd needs to be hot temperature, in this case if u dont add cooling fan for power supply you will get overheated what will you do ?
@@franklee8126 Yes, the power supply is underneath the cabinet!
@@MaxMakerChannel i know but still need a fan for it, because hot air go up flow
Remember that this top printer (Prusa) has petg parts that will melt in your cheated chamber if cranked too hot so good luck ;)
Voll geil 😂 gute Arbeit 🎉
what kind of door did you install? What type of door is that?
Its a German Window!
Richtig gut umgesetzt! Mega gute idee mit dem Fenster👌
Danke!
Is that Casio A159WGEA-1EF at 7:36 mark?
Yeah! That is my 35€ Rolex replacement.
Hi ! Might i ask u, do i really need to bring a cooling down
Definitley! The power supply needs to go outside.
It's better put the printer on the table, because if u put on the floor, it's hard to do a maintenance, your back will hurt
Where would I find a door like that
Its a window. In the hardware store.
@@MaxMakerChannel ohh. It would be classified as a window? Will have to check out our local one
2:29 you: missing for 3 frames as you popped out for some more clamps....
Awesome build! Any idea what the rough dimensions are?
Yes I do! The window is 90cm high and 60cm wide. That is without the plywood on the sides. The depth of the cabinet is 64cm but that includeds the thickness of the window which is 7cm.
mega geiles video... ich muss meinen ikea lack tisch wohl optimieren
Hi Max, what is the size of that window?
Haha. I'm just finishing up a very similar enclosure. I also used Baltic Birch plywood and the door and left and right side has inset a sheet of 16x20" glass. i went with glass because i'm sick and tired of looking at my other projects where i used Plexi or Lexan and they're full of scratches. Plus glass insulates better. The only thing i haven't quite finalized is keeping the electronics cool. I'm leaning towards sealing up the vents on the sides of my i3 Mega S, and having a piece of wood fit tight around the bottom edge of the printer, so i can then vent the printer from below using some 120mm fans without it blowing all that cool air into printer enclosure. The one thing though that i didn't quite anticipate was the weight. lol. My enclosure with printer inside must weigh 150lbs.
I would recommend taking the electronics outside entirely. If your prints fail you will always be wondering if it is from the draft or not.
Would be great to hear some more about it on the podcast :'(.
: ( Difficult decision.

Is it still cold in Germany right now ;-) ??
thats a beaut
If you have anny idea what the type of door you used was called
Yes it is a standard german window. Probably only available in Germany or Europe. Check out what windows you can get at your country.
Links for the lack table files?
Check them out on Prusa.printers!
@@MaxMakerChannel Right on. Super noob here. Just bought a printer. Haven't received it yet. Thanks for the reply!
Sure. Lots of great info on their channel as well. One advice: The debates about PETG vs PLA is totally overblown in my opinion. I ended up only using PLA. That stuff is great for almost everything and if you want something to be stronger you can just make it bigger.
Cool...
I would like to see a follow up on the diy efoil board. I would like to build one, but only part one of the instructables is up :(. Keep up the great work tho.
Will finish it!
Max Maker yayyyyy 🎉 I’m so pumped thank you for the quick reply, love your work
Max Maker do you think when you do write the instructables part 2, that you can provide info on choosing a motor and esc and everything else we would need to get started?
Alomode10 Check out efoil.builders There you find the Max Maker Build Thread with all the Information. Its a lot of trial and error by all builders in the community.
Max Maker thank you so much I really do appreciate it
Douse it keep the fumes out?
yes
Where did you find that window?
Hardware store. Its a standard window here.
Einsame Spitze
if you have the money for make this you live in a big house with the printer far away your bed, furthermore is a relaxing noise to me
What type of window is that ?
Just a standard German tripple glazed window.
Wann kommt Hydrofoil. Warte schon Monate !
Hab viel Zeit in Arbeitsorganisation gesteckt. Hoffentlich hab ich nächsten Monat etwas Luft dafür.
Hydrofoil update??
I just need to free up my calendar for a week and I can finish it!
That window is just some ridiculous luck for you
Originally I wanted a 50 x 50 cm window! The big one is even better!
2:40 When you filmed this? :)
Around march. My basement workshop is around 11°C in January and slowly reaches 20°C around August.
8:58 Are you sleeping with the printer now after getting kicked out by the wife?
How much did this cost you?
I don‘t remember exactly. Probably 150€ all in.
dustrproof
Is it fire proof though? xD
Does it have to be?
@@MaxMakerChannel i heard there are concerns about 3d printer catching fire, So i think so?
