    That's a fantastic enclosure, Max, and this is a timely video for me. My old 3D printer broke in May. It would have been easy to fix, but it seemed like a good excuse to upgrade, so I ordered a Prusa MK3S. It got here two days ago. 10 weeks later! :)

      I think you will love your new printer! Initially I thought I would hang it up at the wall in the utility room. But then I thought It could live in the guest room for now. Higher up would be a luxury.

    Once you get a domino or dowel joiner you'll more than likely rarely ever use the biscuit again. Most a biscuit joiner is good for is setting. But you can do that with squares and clamps with the same results.

    Amazing idea. I’ve searched for ideas for a printer enclosure and this is the best solution I’ve seen so far. Fireproofnes however is an important point for me, since I’m using a chinese printer. I will glue some 2mm Aluminium to all surfaces on the inside to improve it a bit.
    Windows in a small size like 40x60cm cost around 40€ online, never expected them to be so cheap.

    Thanks for this video, this is a fantastic build. I may build something similar, but with two changes. 1. Exhaust fan and tube to vent the enclosure out the window (since micro plastic dust from FDM printers is real, and can be a serious health hazard over time), and, 2. Mount the accessories holder and extra filament outside (top or side). Thank you for the inspiration!

    • @MaxMakerChannel
      @MaxMakerChannel  8 місяців тому +1

      Good idea! The way it is its completely air tight, but of course you open it at some point. A filter would be nice, but you need to avoid a draft as well. So maybe one that vents only when its done.

  • @workingTchr

    Baltic birch plywood. I love that stuff. Heavy and straight. Not your standard douglas fir plywood. EDIT: For those looking for ventilation that's quiet and cheap, I've used (in the USA) 8 inch duct elbow (90 degrees), 8 inch "back draft blocker" (so wind from outside doesn't push printing fumes indoors, and the Amazon Basics 3 speed small Room Air fan 7-inch. If you remove the stand of the fan, you have a perfect 8" circular fan that will fit inside the ducting.

  • @exodous02

    I have the official Prusa Enclosure and I need to soundproof it. The i3 MK3S+ isn't as quiet as I wanted, it is quiet but I live in an apartment complex. This week I'm going to buy a paver brick and I have some foam for it, going to try that. If it needs anything more than that I might add some foam to the inside, nothing thick, it won't need much beyond the paver brick I think. The PLA I'm using also has an odor but I have the air filter on pre-order for that.
    I should have just made my own, I mean my Dad has a wood shop I could have used that has all the tools and more that you showed, just not the manual forklift, that is amazing. Oh well, I have a second printer I haven't assembled yet, I'll go to the Habitat for Humanity story here, it is used construction materials, look for a window like the one you had and build around it. That is brilliant and there are always those kind of windows there. I could make one like yours for the bottom printer and then put the Pursa enclosure on top of it and then I can wheel them around. My dad even has some heavy duty casters like you used!

    Haha. I'm just finishing up a very similar enclosure. I also used Baltic Birch plywood and the door and left and right side has inset a sheet of 16x20" glass. i went with glass because i'm sick and tired of looking at my other projects where i used Plexi or Lexan and they're full of scratches. Plus glass insulates better. The only thing i haven't quite finalized is keeping the electronics cool. I'm leaning towards sealing up the vents on the sides of my i3 Mega S, and having a piece of wood fit tight around the bottom edge of the printer, so i can then vent the printer from below using some 120mm fans without it blowing all that cool air into printer enclosure. The one thing though that i didn't quite anticipate was the weight. lol. My enclosure with printer inside must weigh 150lbs.
