Millions in the U.S. live near abandoned oil and gas wells linked to explosions and toxins

  • Abandoned oil and gas wells can cause toxins and dangerous greenhouse gasses to leak into water supplies and, in some extreme cases, cause explosions. They are often left unplugged by companies that are long out of business. Nearly five million people live within a half mile of an abandoned well. NBC News’ Cynthia McFadden has the investigation.

Finally we are going to pay attention to the leaking gas from dry oil wells. in 1941 my grandfather, a geologist, said gas leaking from oil wells will be 15 % of all harmful pollution. If we can cap and process, yes, use the gas for electric generation we will address 15 % of climate change. This ignored energy source is a tragedy and an opportunity like a franchise. Modern equipment can find these wells. Modern processing can process the diffent gases. We can do this.

Unless the government builds it into its laws, there is none. If you think this is bad, look up all the contaminated and toxic sites in India left behind by British and US corporations or how corporations in Arizona are dumping toxic waste next to farmland and people's homes. How about how 3M was able to dump their waste next to farmlands and it gave everyone cancer and killed the farm animals. Corporations all over the world and especially in the US are allowed to do their thing, make their money, and then take off without taking care of their waste. I knew fracking would be a problem in the future and have avoided living anywhere fracking is legal. That's all we can really do at this point.

@@k333rl Most of the electrical infrastructure in this country isn't rated for high winds like that. The fire in Paradise, CA should've been the wakeup call for all the utility companies, not to mention the terrible drought conditions we've had on/off in different parts of the country. The companies and municipalities need to work together to mitigate these situations. It still might not be perfect, and people may complain, like they do during power shutdowns here, but lives will be saved.

Before you talk you should check your facts. There is an interactive map at the White House Web site that shows projects in each state where the funds are going. It's not all the projects because not all the agencies data are represented, but there's a whole lot, in every state. More than enough to demonstrate that the infrastructure funding is going where it should be.
Also, there are things that didn't get covered because the bill was whittled down in order to get it through Congress. There are some people that just don't want funds to go to places other than Wall Street, billionaires, or weapons.
