A thousand thanks to YOU!!!!! My printed sheets had faded horizontal lines about 1/8" wide and about 4" apart. Thought I'd have to pay for repairs or $400 for a new MFC. After watching your video, I looked at the roller and saw what appeared to be one permanent scratch about 1/8th inch wide the entire length of the roller. I used 91% alcohol (had it on hand) and soft toilet paper. It took me about an hour of really vigorous scrubbing to make it disappear. The 1st printed sheet looked twice as bad as before cleaning. I forgot to let printer warm up, so I let printer warm up about 1 minutes and printed again. Every sheet after that 1st one came out PERFECT!! You saved me a trip to repair shop who may have sold me a $400 printer. Jack, home business, Las Vegas.
OMG, so glad I found your clip! I was one step away from throwing the beast out the window. I didn't have industrial alcohol so I used vodka! Now the printer's happy and so am I. :-)
Has anyone told you today how much you rock? Well, if not, I'll start the line! Thanks so much for your excellent tutorial. Cleaned the toner drum and bam, problem solved. You're the bestest! Thanks!
Lines on my printouts have been an ongoing problem. I have a color printer which holds 4 cartridges. I would run through several test prints that seemed to help but not completely. Ran the green tab back and forth many times but did not take care of the problem. Used your solution and it was joyous to see the lines were gone! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for making this video, it worked!!! I was going crazy trying to figure out how to get rid of the black lines I was getting, and there is NO OPTION on my printer (Brother 3270) to clean print heads, which is crazy. You saved me future frustration, much appreciated.
I cleaned the Roller and noticed it was metalic green. I changed it & used a new DR-620 tray that Roller was black and it printed perfectly. Gues that was my Q to change it out. Thank you very much for your valuable assistance.
Omg you are a life saver. I thought my drum was messed up and was going to break this printer into pieces because i was pissed. I did what you did and found out that a small debris was stuck in the roller and it keeps giving me a vertical line. Thank you so much
God Bless you for this video!!!! I had no idea that I had to pay attention to that, and mine had lot of build up, now my printer is printing crystal clear pages with vivid ink, I'm so glad. I was so confused as to what the problem was I was even considering buying a new printer!
Even if that didn't work, there was no need for a new printer, at most this issue is resolved buying a new cartridge, or in the case of some brother printers and other larger printers, the drum she cleaned is sold separately, so after a certain # of cartridges the drum will be worn out and need replaced. Just remember, if you buy some generic cartridge and it still prints poorly, might be the drum or vice versa which is why you need to stick to genuine OEM parts to have best results and they are matched for each other which some aftermarket, they try to push on consumers the same toner for different printers when the toner formulation each is supposed to use, is not quite the same.
OMG! Thank you so much for doing this video! Had already bought a new printer several months ago because of smudge lines on old printer then when new printer started doing the same thing...luckily, I found your video. Cleaned away small debris spot and voila perfect printing! Did same on previous old printer and also great printing now. Really appreciate this!
So simple! Should have been obvious to me, but it wasn't. My somewhat elderly MFC-8480N's drum was barely visible under the built up toner residue. I wish I had found your excellent video sooner, but I'm just glad to have found it at all.
Thank you so much! I was getting a black streak across the page. Also with multiple pages some pages had dark smears on the ends. I used your method to clean the drum and corona wire. Had to do it twice, but now all is well again!
This worked for me. Thank you so much. I was getting dime size black smudges every four inches. Evan bought a new toner. Watched this video and now it works perfect again.
Thank you! Great video! I just cleaned my drum (large green roller barrel slowly turning it to find the spots) with my eye glass cleaner & Q-tips and was careful not to have excess cleaner on the Q-tip and was very patient and gentle AND IT WORKED!!! My printed documents went from having black spots all over it to just 1 and I will be working on that one next 🎉🎉😊👍
GREAT!! My Brother HL-2270DW is from 2013. The drum still has 2/3rds life left! I was noticing streaks in the print output. I will do this for sure! THANKS!
Worked excellent. Print looks like new (I had a black horizontal band across the page). I did purchase similar Isopropyl alcohol wipes from the local drug store ($3 for 100 in the first aid section) and used a bunch as they are tiny, but it rubbed off some of the caked on toner really well. It dried quickly and didn't scratch anything. Thanks!
Holy smokes was this helpful! A week ago I started seeing this large splotchy mark in the middle of my paper - I thought I'd gotten some water and dirt in there from a nearby plant...turns out it was a BUG CARCASS!
My issue ended up being that the little green tab wasn't all the way to the left, and pushing it back into place fixed the line of ink for me. Thank you!
Thank you! Exactly what I needed. Just wish I didn't have to keep cleaning the darn drum. But at least it's an easy fix. It also appeared to help with making sure the toner sticks to the paper... the pages were easily getting smudged and this fixed that as well. Well, it fixed it for about 50 pages. Now it's got ink splotches at the top and not sticking completely again. Looking for another video that addresses this issue.
If your drum gets dirty again that fast, either it is worn out or you are using aftermarket toner with the wrong formulation, or leaking cart is leaving deposits behind. Leaking can also mean the cartridge waste hopper is full and needs emptied but on printers this size it is often not user serviceable meaning to DIY empty it, you'd have to drill or melt a hole then after emptied, come back with a plug or tape over the hole. To be clear I am talking about a separate reservoir more towards the front of a cartridge that collects stray toner, NOT the larger main reservoir that holes fresh toner.
My printer leaves roller marks. Not a toner issue. Just roller marks..its done this since the day I bought it. It leaves like 3 lines that run all the way across the paper that you can only see at certain angles in light. Is that a common issue?
I just bought this Brother laser printer and it has left a heavy streak on the edge of the paper. I did a cleaning but it's still acting up. I really think it might be worth replacing the cartridge. What is your recommendation? This is supposed to take the TN 760 or the TN 730. Thank you.
If it's still leaving streaks, I would try replacing the toner. Also, double check any other visible rollers for gunk, specs of debri, etc. If you get streaks when scanning, carefully clean the scanning glass.
My printer is printing faint, or lighter spots on the left side of copies. Can this cleaning process be used to repair the issue, or is that being caused by a different problem altogether?
@@Jean78578 I've done that, but it's still doing it and the toner is new. I just changed it a couple of weeks ago. But it was also doing it with the older toner before I changed it. I thought it was doing it because the old toner was running out. But with the new toner, the faint spots are still coming out.
I would clean the Corona wire, most likely it's on the drum unit. See this help page. Also, turn off any toner save settings. support.brother.com/g/b/sp/imglist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=mfcl2700dw_us_eu_as&ptn=1
What do you do if the line persists? I've changed out the toner cartridge AND the drum and the line is still there. Does this indicate a more serious issue?
Open the printer and look for other rollers that may need to be cleaned. Also, look for a Corona wire - it's normally just a single wire it's either built into the printer and some models have it built in to the toner cartridge. That often needs to be cleaned as well. I would use a soft cloth with some alcohol.
The top loader scans to paper port with distinct lines down the middle of the paper. When I copy or scan from the glass. No lines appear. I’ve cleaned the glass and under the top loader lid. What is the solution ?
look deeper into the the small glass slit where the auto doc feeder runs the paper through. Sometimes you can't even see the bit of dirt which is causing the line. Run your finger nail all over that glass slit, sometimes you will feel it before you see it.
I've used 15 alcohol pads each time I clean around the cartridge, I've cleaned it three times and still the pages come out blotchy looking. Can sanitizers do work instead of that alcohol liquid, thanks though for this
I haven't tried that. They are mainly alcohol, so it should work.
