Absolutely brilliant, very nice trailer. I will only make a safety suggestion, you only "lock" used to hold the lowering bar down to the trailer is not backed up with a safety pin or latch of some sort. It has been my experience that the current latch will, at some point, fail and allow the lowering bar to come loose and cause you lose your load. With the addition of the hold down hoops on the same lowering bar you are putting more load on the bar with no back up safety, again, causing the hold down pin to potentially work its way loose, rising up and causing your load to be lost since the hold downs are not attached to thw bas frame of your trailer. Fix that... and i think you have a superbly awesome bike trailer. Keep up the great work. Note, i did watch the whole video and if i missed where the lock for the pin is, well, thats my bad, im sorry. Still a great trailer
Like to add something that will help keep scratches off front tire rim Mount some rubber strips on each side Use glue or mount somehow That Will keep rim from getting scratched Your Welcome 🤗
Pretty awesome build. There are two things I would suggest as improvements. First, I would not trust that short lockdown pin. I would want it to go all the way through the bar with reinforcement on both sides of the bar. Drill a hole through the end of the lock pin on the back side of the bar and put a clip pin through so there's no way it could come out in transit. If that existing pin fails, your lift bar is going to go up and your trailer will hit the ground. Since your tiedowns are attached to that same bar, the bike may get thrown from the trailer. The other thing I would suggest is on the ramp. You used an old ramp flipped upside down for your loading rail. That ramp has lips folded toward the bike wheels. I would fold those down flat against the inside of the ramp to prevent damage to the tires when loading or if the bike shifts sideways while towing. Otherwise, it's a great idea that's well executed. I do see I'm not the first to bring up the lockdown pin.
I took a used tilt trailer and removed the axle and tilt pivot and built an outer frame and made it into a drop deck trailer very similar to what you have here. I used the old wheel bearings for the pivot but I really love the hinges you made with just a rectangle tube for an arm connecting the two frames allowing the pivot drop down. I am making another trailer since the one I have is WAY too heavy and I was going to buy a pillow mounted bearing and use a long round tube for the hinge across the bottom of the whole trailer. Now That I see what you did instead of a bearing or something similar you used the hinges you made with an "arm" connecting to the ramp frame. I love the simplicity and less complicated fabrication and it also seems like this would give me more structural connection and stability than a couple pillow bearings would have. The welded hinge arms have more welded edges and should be a stronger connection. I am so glad I came across your video.
This video brings hope to my aspiration to, some day, becoming a not so bad welder. Watching someone using regular sticks instead of mig or tig, and cursing because they stick to the workpieces, is kind of comforting. Best regards 👍
This is not an over centre mechanism, over centre mechanisms are inherently stable, this is not, it will drop without the locking pin whereas an over centre system would not! An over centre system typically reaches a point where it will self close, Kilner jars, some beer bottles, old suitcases and some trailer toolboxes use over centre catches, they will go tight and then snap closed pulling away from you as you press on them, this is definitely not one!
Pretty cool. My only critique is the hold down straps connected to the lifting arm. It is pulling up against the locking pin which is a single point of failure.
Absolutely brilliant trailer design for hauling a motorcycle and a great job building it. Very well done on building it as well. I believe it will have a long life of use and be a very safe way to haul a motorcycle. The only thing i could think of to add to protect the motorcycle from rocks would be some type of plastic or polycarbonate between the car and motorcycle on the trailer.
Is that just the biggest motorcycle ever made? My goodness man. What do you do with that beast? 150 KPH for like days at a time? Maybe a track. Ok that's it. That's got to be a racing bike. I have never seen such a thing. 💥
Nice build…..you might want to look for rear straps for a boat, they are strong, short, very adjustable and close with a single flip of a lever. They would work great for the side straps.
Wouldn't worry about that pin too much. The leverage is plenty. If the bike moves / wiggles at speed the chassis could be stiffer with higher beams (avoid pogo) and triangle beams (avoid snake move). As always great creativity. 👍👍👍👍👍
8.5/10 ...... Brilliant job, however, I see that you are putting a lot of faith in the locking pin that holds the lift bar in place, not only is it holding the bar with a small amount of stick out, but the bar is also the tie down point for the bike, if that pin fails then the bar lifts, the trailer drops and you loose all your tie down strength. Please take this as a suggestion from an old man who overengineers everything, Stay safe my friend and keep on building.
Awesome job. Was thinking of the mud from the car wheels after a shower? Also would have used the bikes color on the trailer to some degree. Still looked great, well done.
The side straps should go to an un-suspended part of the bike like the rear wheel. As is, the bike is the trailer's suspensions and the straps will slack on compression and slam tight on extension, something is gonna come loose, snap, or bend.
Nice trailer! but it's going to be interesting towing it a distance with no suspension. oh...and good luck with those temu lights lasting more than a couple of weeks.
Nice trailer! Please add a 2nd latch for safety. Could be a simple lock with chain wrapped around the rails until you build a 2nd permanent latch. Was wondering what type of motorcycle you were showing. Just spotted the video where you built the bike, so backtracking to look at it. Thanks!!
Great trailer and video. I'm the paranoid type so I'd worry about the spring lock bouncing loose on the highway or a bumpy road, or for the spring to weaken.
It does take skill. But the skills can be learned for anyone with a mechanical IQ or with a blueprint and some time. Tools can be borrowed or shop can do for you the parts and you can learn to stick weld. It's not super hard, but does take some practice. For those like me that have all these skills, the tools are less of a problem. I don't have some of these tools but portables can do the job as well. It might be a little more work, but doable. All in all this would be a perfect trailer for my Motorcycle.
Add a removable Rear chalk to prevent accidental roll-off, and make a loop for the tire. A clamp with an adjustable clamp. Add a back up lock to lock trailer up, and locks bike to trailer.
Absolutely perfekt. The only thing to mention is the Wheerl/Rim Situation. Drilling a Rim is absolutely forbidden in Germany. If i had to choose/Build it i had rather changed completely to a VW 4x100 Hub - and there then are 1000 Rims to Choose from. I set my Small 750kg Trailer on old 15" BBS RA Rims from my Golf 2. My Trailer already comes with 4x100 from the Factory. The Fenders fit "Snug" but Space enough luckily.
I made lever lifter like that for motorbike. Under center stand. It allow swing one wheel up, front or rear. It compensade low lift level. Now I use stairs type lifter with same swing function. Center stand walk up to stairs by leaning and turning bike by hand. In paper I have many different models for lift bike.
Very impressive. Very good for your first version Can you show how you take the bike off the trailer. It seems a bit cumbersome to load the bike with that steel beam in your way. I wonder why you didn’t show taking the bike off?
My dad built a boat trailer than lowered into water. His trailer was activated by a triangle piece of hinged metal at pivot point at front of trailer. Instead of rear like on this trailer. Think about a hinge pivot by tongue, eliminating your big u-shaped overhead adjust bar!
Absolutely brilliant, very nice trailer. That is the best motorcycle trailer I have ever seen! Brilliant!
There’re plenty brands making that trailer system since years! 😊

I'd pay for this. Simple, yet extremely effective. I cringe at trailering my bike(2016 custom Busa) from fear of dropping it.🏁🏁🏁

Excellent job---I would recommend a secondary tilt lock or safety chain . Thanks
Excellent! Just a safety chain on the rocker lock maybe?😊
I was not disappointed again.
It turned out great, like all your projects so far.

Man I wish I had just a quarter of your brain and how it works! Awesome build as always brother! 😉👍
Thank you for not editing out the mistakes.
Your workshop is superb!!! Nice job, you gave me so nice ideas about trailer!
You are a skilled craftsman Sir and I love your work. Excellent. Thanks for sharing.
It is very relaxing watching any fabricator fab up something👍💪!!
I love the over-center mechanism in this trailer. The whole thing could be easily modified to fit multiple bikes also.
This is not an over centre mechanism, over centre mechanisms are inherently stable, this is not, it will drop without the locking pin whereas an over centre system would not!

Fantastic trailer. Now if we all had a shop like that...
Perfect idea! I love the design!

If I only had a machine shop to build that in I too would have something that cool to load my bikes in and transport them.
Pretty cool. My only critique is the hold down straps connected to the lifting arm. It is pulling up against the locking pin which is a single point of failure.

Another brilliant project. Creative, useful and unique. Keep up the great content. I look forward to all your video's.
Nice job. Personally I would add another latching lock at the front (the spring bolt) since it could rattle out during transit.

Straps place pressure on the latch pin for the tilt mechanism. Maybe a secondary latch would be wise.
