Thanks for posting this. I bought a used X540 that started easily when cold, then ran perfectly for about an hour before dying. It would turn over but wouldn't start until it sat long enough to cool down a bit. Then it would start and run for a few minutes before stalling again. The longer I waited before starting, the longer it would run before dying again. I replaced the plugs, oil & filter, air filter and fuel filter when I bought it and couldn't figure out what the problem was until I found this video. I replaced the electronic control unit and mowed my one-acre lot on a 90 degree day with no issues.
I just got done mowing with my X500 and the tractor did not miss a beat. What I think happened was a mouse built a nest under the engine shroud which caused a lot of heat which damaged this circuit block. I removed the mouse nest and replaced the circuit block and the tractor runs great. Thanks for the video.
Came a cross this while investigating my neighbours' issue with their X320. It would die about an hour into use, then would run after cooling down. The "local" (over an hour away) dealer threw coils and fuel pump at it ($$$) and plugs, and didn't solve it. I told them about this module, so we're ordering one. I figure it's going to be the answer.
My x500 would start and run for 30 to 45 minutes then die. I changed fuel filter then the fuel pump then coil and sparkplugs then checked the fuel shut off under the carb. I spent last summer with the same problem. I found this video and am going to give it a try. I will let you know how goes next summer.
My X500 gave me fits with this issue. I read somewhere on a forum to look near the starter on the engine right side, for a single black wire, and just unplug it. I did this 2 years ago. No more stalling. Starts every time! Didn’t buy the overpriced $100.00 gizmo, either
I have had the same exact problem with my JD s240. Going to look into this tomorrow. I have 3 1/2 acres to mow and it gets frustrating only being able to mow an hour at a time. When it cools off, it starts back up. Is this module fairly standard on all JD mowers?
when your tractor died was the fuel filter empty? my machine has been to the JD Dealer 3x's and they can't figure it out. they replaced fuel filter 3x's. TY
Q x540 when cold I try to engage the blades and the engine stalls. When I’m cutting the grass and it gets warm. Engine starts to spit and sputter and will stall. Help
That is exactly what ours has done for years and the Wichita KS dealer could never diagnose the problem . Thanks for the great video. Scott

Very glad to hear that this video helped!
Had the same problem, very frustrating! Glad I found your video! Replaced the time delay module and that fixed my problem. Thank you for your video!!
