I bought your book and am reading it. I have been trying to learn how to draw for several years but just couldn't get it mastered, but just watching your video one time and did not watch it all the way throug, I saw some improvment so I bought the book and I am following all your suggestion. I want to draw a picture of my granddaughter and I want her to be proud of it when she see it. I am 75 years old but always wanted to draw just didn't have the time to try and learn so again thank you, you are the best.
Thank you for this very easy to follow, super-useful tutorial, Alphonso! Within 20 minutes of copying what you were doing, I had a firm grasp of how to draw a mountain out of my head. Much appreciated!
I have seen to many styles to draw on,you tube, drawing tutorials, and Mr. Dunn you style is one of the best styles I ever seeing , I'll still learning from you, thanks.
For the love of god, PLEASE make more tutorials!! These are some of the most interesting rock formations I've ever seen, and you did it from very basic shapes. You make it very inspiring and motivating for viewers to attempt themselves. Excellent work sir. I hope you keep pushing these out!
I have finally found my art style thanks to you! I have learned so much from your videos. Your videos make it so simple but it's so informative at the same time. My 2017 sketch book looks so much better than my 2016 in just one month! I actually love my sketches for once. By far the best drawing videos on UA-cam, if not anywhere! I can't thank you enough! (:
Alphonso I have never met a person that goes through every step so thoroughly and specifically. You really include everything you can think of, this helped me a lot as a beginner thank you!
I am new to all this drawing "world", but want to slowly learn it (with 41 ;-)). Well, it's (almost) never to late to start something, i guess. Surfing around since weeks because of that and was watching tons of "tutorials" and making big eyes seeing all those "speed drawings" and was wondering how it is possible, but didn't actually learned a lot from it. Few hours ago i found your tutorial(s) and can say that after watching some of them, that your tutorials are the best "christmas present" i could imagine. I don't have to search any further. Thanks a lot for your time and the amazing knowledge you are sharing here. Really much appreciated. Nice greetings from Switzerland and a happy new year soon. All the best wishes to you and your family.
I think that comment you made was my Christmas present. Thanks so much for sharing that. It means a lot to know my videos are useful and that they provide more than just entertainment. Thank you
I like how you motivate people by explaining it in the simplest matter. I also like how your explanations can turn people like me to draw from my imagination, which is EXTRA helpful for me, as I'm a fantasy writer that kinda wants to get some visual things on paper/screen. I did some character sketching (pretty much all of them are from my storylines, really), but, even though I'm better at it compared to before, I didn't really had much of an idea what I was doing. I could never get my characters/areas the same way as how I sketched them, at least not in a different pose/perspective. But now, after watching some of these and picking on the general tips you have to offer, I got the idea to do some concept art and, indeed, draw from shapes, studying my past sketches on shapes, and I found it's a lot more consistent now. So yeah, keep on being awesome :D. You not only caused me to draw better, but you also motivated me to, well, draw, knowing that I'm turning into the right direction :D
I finally get it! Thank you so much for bringing this simple approach to mountain drawing. For half the video I kept saying: "Yeah yeah, I know how light works.". And then suddenly when you drew the two example mountains, it was so simple. Instead of looking at a mountain formation as a group of cracks and complex light formations, it's all the same animal as shading a simple triangle. Thank you so much!
You are such a generous person to freely share your God given talents with others. Your talent is impressive but your generosity is your greatest gift. I am a fair Sketcher and am trying to teach kids what I know, your videos are giving me much needed help with my teaching skills and abilities. Thank You!!!
I used to draw all the time in ink but I had forgotten how much I liked it, having started using pencil and charcoal more for sketching. Thanks for reminding me how versatile pen is. I appreciate your tutorials.
Awesome talent, Alphonso, and I mean both your teaching and artistic skills. Every since I found you on You Tube, I have made it my business every day, when I can, to watch a couple of your videos. It's great because I can watch them over and over, when I want to focus on a particular aspect of drawing. You are a blessing to all of us ...the wannabe artists of this world. Thank you most sincerely and so proud that you are a fellow Jamaican. Cool runnings, man.
another proof that "imagination is more important than knowledge" because even if I "know" how to do these now, without good "imagination" I am still stuck when trying to create stuff.....gonna take years of copying before I can do my own...anyway, thanx Al, you're amazing!
Thank you Alphonso for what you do! Whereas some tutorials simply feature artists performing the process of drawing, you actually TEACH us! I'm looking to improve my painting skills but need to understand the core concepts of form and shadow better. Your videos help! Thanks
Thank you so much for an actual lesson. I'm old as hell and have never drawn. Trying my best to learn but teaching videos are few and far between. Much appreciated.
I am currently writing a book that involves some "fantasy map making." Suffice it to say I have zero artistic talent in this area (not that I have much writing skill either, lol). Your use of geometric shapes to explaing light and shadows was a tremedous boost to my caveman like drawings. Thank you for sharing your talents and helping me to "see."
Hi. I am finding the tutorials on anything to do with the features of landscape really inspiring and the way you teach basic form and then use it to form these features gives a novice like me a greater understanding . So , many thanks.
I have watched thousands of videos on drawing and painting. You are the first that doesn't have a $50.00 pencil ( I might be exaggerating a bit ) and go over a bunch of supplies. Like erasers, paper, different kinds of pencils, things for shading and on and on which makes a person feel like you cant tackle a drawing unless you have all these supplies then they tell you there is a link that you can buy these supplies on amazon or some other supply store. And before you know it your in debt over a couple hundred dollars and all you wanted was to draw a rock , a tree, a house. Anyway you get the idea. Thanks for keeping it real. You got a new subscriber and I only wish I could give you more than 1 like..
I never could grasp a solid concept on light because of the surface values. But the way you explained it and showed us through visual demonstration is amazing!
Been wanting to develop this skill for so long now. Never thought I could. And then I found your videos. Thank you so much man, keep up the incredible work

Alphonso, this is an awesome lesson. I just finished it, and may I say that I think you're an outstanding teacher. Both my father and brother are professional artists, and I have sold a few paintings - but I badly neglected my art, and now I'm getting it back.
