Here are some tips on how to prepare for Physics Olympiads.
Upgrade your Physics: www.bpho.org.uk/Resources/upg...
They are applicable to all Physics Olympiads, for example - The British Physics Olympiad Round 1, The British Physics Olympiad Senior Challenge, American F=ma exam, American Physics Olympiad, the Asian Physics Olympiad and of course, the International Physics Olympiad.
As examples I am using the syllabus of the international physics olympiad IPhO. This can be accessed here: www.ipho-new.org/statutes-syl... (you need to scroll down near the end of the page)
I solve cover an overview of the mathematics required including calculus, differential equations, differentiation and integration.
And some problem solving techniques for physics olympiads and some wider topics such as time management.
I hope this video is very useful!

I was at this year's IPhO and when I talked with the gold medalists they basically said that all they do everyday is solve problems...for years... I only prepared for less than a year and earned a bronze medal for the Bulgarian team, so I guess if I started earlier I would have had better odds of earning something higher. Also a very important step in preparation is competing in regional olympiads and competitions, since sometimes the problems are similar in difficulty to the international olympiads.
Поздравления! Браво на теб : ) (I'm also from Bulgaria and had one visit to the famous Teo school roughly 15 years ago!) Thanks for the comment and the insight. I agree, the regional competitions at a national level often have problems at very similar difficulty.
Yovo, what is your major now?
@@vasilivanov1951 Currently I'm studying Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft
For years? When do they start?
what were the books you used
I am three weeks away from the Nationals here in 🇲🇽. I had not quite acquired advice like this.
I really wish to get a medal, but regardless of the result, I have learnt so much more of physics on this barely 7 month long journey, showing an example of dedication to my school. I will also do some free traveling to places I didn't know and possibly I will meet new great people and friends.
The point is, the experience and the work is the greatest reward in competitions. And it's thanks to channels like yours that I have prepared while watching UA-cam. Thank you ZPhysics.
Wow comments such as these genuienly make my day! Thank you so much and good luck in any upcoming competitions!
But olimpiada en linea porq el Conacyt no soltó feria 😭😭
Hello , currently in grade 11 ( 15 year old) , studying in India , preparing for ipho , 27 days left for the preliminary round of physics olympiad ( qualifying round for the national physics olympiad) thanks for everything ❤
anytime! Amazing, good luck!
@@zhelyo_physics thanks mate
How did it go bro
Did u get MI?
You can't imagine how much this video helped me to decide what to do to get succed in the way of my prep for physics olympiad.I have just started so it seems pretty tough but i love the process itself.Although i can't solve them for the first time, the feeling of learning smth different is precious.Thank you a lot for your super benefitial videos❤
anytime! Thank you so much! I am so glad this video is helpful!
I am taking the NSEP (National Standard Examination in Physics) in India, next month. Found this video really useful! I was pleasantly surprised to receive your newsletter about the olympiad too. NSEP needs us to solve over 70 MCQ problems within 2 hours. Any tips on how to solve questions fast without getting stressed about time. Thanks already! Your channel is unique
wow amazing! So glad to hear all these are useful, thank you so much for the kind comment!
Also..for fast multiple choice..I do have lots of advice but I think this might be a topic of another video! I will probably compile lots of it into a newsletter first, stay tuned!
@@zhelyo_physics Thanks!
how much did you get
Another great video! 😊 Greetings from Cambridge
Thank you so much!!
hello!! you could to solve questions of the brazilian exams ITA and IME. some them questions are level JEE or more...
I need to have a browse! A long time ago a subscriber sent me a translated version of the questions and they seemed very very hard!
hey thanks for the helpful video. I'm going to attend igcse this may/june , so I'm planning to start the preparation this july. However I have never even prepared for any olympiad and this is my first tme. A lot of the olympiad material will not match my study material so I'm kind of in the dark about where to start. Any suggestions for resources for complete beginners like me?
Excellent! I think I actually have some Olympiad questions at GCSE Level on my GCSE channel, ZGCSE. Might be a great place to start!
I am currently studying to qualify for ipho and this was quite helpful.
Thank you so much! Best of luck in the preparation!
I'm an Indian 12th grade student who will give JEE exam next year. I never knew about these Olympiads and stuff because here, we had private companies that conduct their own tests that they named Olympiads which is just a method for them to sell their books and make business. I got to know about the real Olympiads only in 9th grade when we had online classes. I had no real means of accessing the system though as no one had educated about that to me enough. Finally in 11th grade when school became physical, I could give the regional Olympiad for Astronomy in 2022 but performed poorly (48/240) and couldn't clear the cutoff of 72. This year I'm enrolled in a coaching for IIT JEE exam that will also help me in the Astronomy Olympiad and I hope I will reach the National level then to the training camps for the international round. I'm so excited and so ambitious to study Astrophysics in a University. Your videos have helped me a lot, thank you so much❤
0:59 that stuff is in our JEE syllabus and to an extent is covered satisfactorily in high schools here so I'm happy
Amazing story! All the best and good luck in both the JEE and Olympiads! Let me know how the year goes.
@@zhelyo_physics thank you so much sir! I won't let you down 🔥
Mains Jan attempt percentile?
Hello respected sir i am currently in my 2nd last year of highschool thinking of participating in the physics Olympiad next year of our country, How would you suggest me to prepare?
Amazing! You should totally do it, I recommend following all the advice of the video and also checking out my playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLSygKZqfTjPCKus_q7vWTaRClR2hi6XFe.html&si=u3KT-yBPkWcIyA4y Good luck!
Im in 10th Grade Preparing for the 1st stage of IPho of 2024 Is it Possible to win a medal at Ipho next year 2025?
Hi, Id' like to ask you a question. How many exams do I need to sit for British Physics Olympiad if My Education level is just A Level. And I'm 24 years old, do you know If can even compete?
I think sadly it is only for students up to 19 but might be worth emailing them to see if they have anything for adult learners. You can learn so much from the problems even if they don't. I also learn a thing or two when I do a paper : )
Hey the link for the first problem can't be found do you have a file of it?
hmm, there was a website for IPhO 2023 that appears to be down, I'll see if I can find the 2023 problems somewhere. They were amazing as all other IPhO Problems : )
Thanks sir my most of doubts cleared about olympiad ❤
fantastic to hear! thank you for the comment!
What are your helpful tips that I have missed out?
Hey, just a question, which university did you study at?
I studied Physics and Mathematics and the University of Manchester. Great course, I recommend it!
@@zhelyo_physics Thanks! Might look into Manchester University 👍
Great!
Thank you!
where can i see the syllabus for intermediate physics challenge?
actually there isn't an official syllabus but it broadly follows the A Level AS spec, I have a playlist here ua-cam.com/play/PLSygKZqfTjPDsDxdAJUxBOCADr0gl5Hx9.html&si=Uvqbs67btQAPCuPX and next week I will also be posting another video on this : ) Good luck preparing!
@@zhelyo_physics will i have to learn some of the content as im unfamiliar with The A level AS physics spec?
My apologies you asked about the intermediate challenge and I presumed the senior challenge : ) I have a playlist here for the intermediate one which is based mainly on the GCSE Physics spec. ua-cam.com/play/PLYwNW8Dp_cOh03XKaPdfTAqH8-3nYWf5D.html&si=Sth6cQtK3US-6l3G Good luck!

I am very excited about Physics Olympiad. I have this book by resnic halliday and krane. Now I can start my journey with any topic? Iam waiting your reply.....😢
ua-cam.com/video/U8bx75wc2Zo/v-deo.htmlsi=kj4cCWXuBeYsxxuv check out my new video. I started going through the Olympiad syllabus from the start. I'd also use Halliday resnick for lots of problem solving. Good luck, it's a great book!
Realistically, is it possible to get well prepared for ipho, given a years time?
Yes! : )
Hello .i am from syria ..next year I will participate in the IPHO but I don't really know where to start ..actually I've been studying in a book called Algebra and trigonometry for James stewart..and then I will start with calculus and when I am working with those I will also study theoritival physics in Fundamental of physics and solve problems in Irodov
Wm I on the right way??
Absolutely on the right way!! You got this! Over the summer I will be posting a lot more olympiad content as well. Stay tuned!
I am from Nepal currently in 12 class and preparing for this exam by self studying from UA-cam and books like concept of physics and irodov but there is one thing missing that is i don't have any ideas about pattern of physics Olympiad
Amazing! Good luck! Unfortunately there is no clear pattern although little details that I have discovered I have put in this video. I'd say a lot is about developing a library of problem types you have solved and being able to persevere when you can't see the solution instantly. Good luck!
Sir do you have any idea of how the screening test that happen in the country look like. Do they look like the Olympiad papers or are they just basic physics stuff to select top 5 students for the countries team? Also, great video
Thank you so much! I think every country is a little different but typically there are regional and then national rounds and then a training camp before the IPhO.
@zhelyo_physics so do you have any idea of the type of questions that come in these regional and national rounds before the?
Roughly how long would it take to accomplish these steps including practice
impossible to do a time estimate but I recommend starting with my kinematics video which will take you through the kinematics section in under 47 minutes : ) ua-cam.com/video/U8bx75wc2Zo/v-deo.htmlsi=1OgpKQSnJmxhP2kh
Thank you!@@zhelyo_physics
Am currently in class 11 and am preparing for physics Olympiad. This video was helpful thank you ❤
thank you for the comment! I'm very glad!
Any book to improve mathematical tricks on physics, I think maths always hold me back while problem solving
let me have a good think. I don't have a copy but I think as a university student I read a book called How to solve (I am not 100% sure of the title) and it had some great integral tricks and tips and others. I'll see if I can think of other suggestions.
@@zhelyo_physics that will help..
Math 55 video plz
thanks for the idea
Thank you!
Anytime!
5:55 what?? 😆
Excellent advice . But you project apoplexy. I’m sure that isn’t your intent but calmness would seem a benefit when solving these problems.
brilliant video! ❤😊
Thank you very much!
Solve high quantity of problems, i liked solving: krotov, puzzle of problems in physics and the jee pathfinder…
excellent advice
❤
I have national physics olympiad in a month hope this video helps me
Good luck on the national round! This might also be helpful if you haven't seen it: ua-cam.com/video/U8bx75wc2Zo/v-deo.htmlsi=VcV8xinsdArqFp82
dont you know any cheaper books?
Unfortunately most ones are not cheap. You might be able to find a second hand copy with some searching. Also I am summarising a lot of the information for physics olympiads in this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLSygKZqfTjPCKus_q7vWTaRClR2hi6XFe.html&si=3qhVGyvSE2lDB6Th Hope this helps!
you can find online pdfs
Sir , Last year I appeared for NSEP then qualified for INPhO .. passed it but couldnt nake it to traning camp but extrenalk yapplied for ISPhO and got selected , IMPhO and won a gold medal for India and now selected for IYPO ... can you help me for more olympiads ??
