This is great, I’ve been looking for a smith machine conversion kit. Really sucks you weren’t able to make it profitable man, but thank you for sharing it with us! I’ll keep an eye on your Etsy shop
Hi, great video. My post should be a warning to all who buy a commercially available smith machine. The buyer really doesn't know what's hidden from view on a machine. And if I had it to do all over again, I would be purchasing a machine which I build, then I know what went into it. I have a commercially available smith machine which is probably older than most of those who are reading this post. I noticed I was getting uneven push on my bar and after seeing your video , I figured I would try to fix the machine. Upon removing the weight bar off the round guide bars that the "linear bearings" ride on, I found out the "linear bearings" which the manufacturer raved so much about 30 years ago were actually nothing but nylon bushings. NICE! So I bought 4 linear bearings and everything seems fine so far. I just have one question oil, lite grease, or silicone lubricant? I want to start the bearings out with the right lubricant. For those reading this post I am almost 73 years old and the smith machine has traveled with me through all the fun times of my life. I dare say it is one reason I am on this side of the grass, and has helped me stay relatively fit with regular use. By the way the Nordic Track tread mill collects both clothes and dust, the smithy doesn't cause it is most always in use. Tom, thank you for your video, it was a really big help. Best of luck! J.
I’d love to buy a set of the custom welded rack hooks please. I’m in the U.K. and it’s the only part I can’t source for my build. Thank you so much for this guide.
Thanks bro. Biggest problem i had was cost of it but it does help its to bad couldnt get it down to a sell price of 400$ shipped. Couldn’t keepem on shelf lol
Hey love this build but got a question. Where i am from olymic weight sets are very expensive they cost us between 4200tt in our currency so would like to know if I'm making and wanna use a standard size bar instead of Olympic what size bearing would i have to use to fit and would any other adjustments be needed to suit or would just the bearing size need to change?
you said your not selling these kits anymore, how would you feel having a PDF format of the hooks? So people can print , trace, cut and try to make it themselves?
@@Clarkydnb i dont have a pdf print out or nothing i just made it by taking a piece of steel n holdin it beside my rack tracing the rack making the vertical line makin a circle bout how far my bar would set off the rack n then winged the hook part unil i had it where i wanted it then traced it n shaped other one welded them together to drill mirror image holes n do all ur grinder work while there still welded together fine tune shaping Also drill a hole where the hook will rest on rack n then cut to the drilled hole so u dont create a stress riser weak spot by over cutting or something here’s a video how to build kit

Yea just measure your bar. N id look for 1/8” bigger pillowblocks they have set screws to lock it down
